Hills of Cove Golf Course
About
Operated by the city of Copperas Cove, Hills of Cove is a recently expanded 18-hole track that winds through the rolling hills northeast of town. Playing almost 6,300 yards from the tips to a par 71, the design features five challenging par 3s that range from 130 to 230 yards.
The original nine opened in 1972–and its flat, basic layout is a bit outdated but easy for the average golfer and a great way to start a full round. The newer back is more modern, featuring more hills, numerous blind shots, and multi-level greens.
Hole 18 is the feature hole, playing 420 yards and loaded with trees–it’s particularly challenging without a solid drive. Long approaches are difficult because the green is protected on the left by a bunker.
Also note that the course has a full-service pro shop and lighted driving range.
Getting there : From Hwy. 190 west, drive into Copperas Cove and stay in the far right lane. Turn right at the Wal-Mart and McDonalds and follow this road to the first stoplight. Turn right, then make a right again on Golf Course Rd. When you come to the first street on the left, turn into the parking lot.

Plenty of elevation changes
Enjoyable round. If they can get the greens better, it would be a good place to play. Locals are friendly and courteous, staff helpful. Challenging course when the wind blows.
Beautiful Hills
The Hills of Cove showed well yesterday. The weather was perfect, the course was well groomed, and the greens were in good condition. Its been 6 months since I played here last time and this was the best experience at this location. My wife came along and drove the cart for me. She had a great time and commented on the scenic beauty.
Golf at Cove
Keep working on your greens they are getting better but still need work.
Great deal for the price
I have been golfing at the Hills of Cove for the past 3 years and have a 15 handicap. The course has vastly improved, and continues to do so. If you have not golfed here in the past 6 months then you have not seen the huge improvements made to the greens. Having said that this particular round of golf was on Presidents day and the wind was bowing super hard which is why I gave the course a rating of "Somewhat Challenging, under ideal weather conditions the course plays moderate. The only negitive would be that the course has no sand traps to testa players skillsout of the bunker. Overall nice round of golf.
Better than a driving range
Would not pay full price for this course. If you can get a deal it's better then a range. No to little difference between fairways and rough. Ground is extremely hard everywhere and will get a lot of roll (unless there's standing water). Greens are extremely short and sandy/seedy and don't have a consistent feel from green to green.
Pretty fun course
Good value. Plenty of green to work with especially if your
a beginner
Much improved
The condition of the course is 10 times better than last year. Some of the greens have minor bad spots but great course for the money
The Course is great for beginners
While I'm sure any low handicap golfer would probably find this course too easy and boring as there are very few hazards other then a few water hazards, it's great for begger golfers with wide open fairways and a very friendly staff.
Nice practice course
They have done a lot of work and It shows. Like the new golf carts. Don't count on the snack bar. We were there on a Sunday after a rain and it was really slow. Decent place just take a snack.
Poor conditions, but friendly staff
Gave it two stars because staff was friendly....course needs maintenance. good course to practice on if you can get for $10 or less. In the bottom 20% of courses I've played. Too many bad areas of greens.
Awesome Staff!!!
Awesome Staff!!
Staff are very friend
course looks better every visit.
Brand New Carts!!!
For the money, a good little course.
Front nine is straight forward, but the back is a little quirky with several blind tee shots. Overall a good course for the money.
Pro Shop is nice.
Course is in rough shape. The tee boxes and fairways aren't bad, but most of the greens have large areas of just dirt. We got on for only $10 so it wasn't a bad deal, having to pay a full $35 green fee wouldn't be worth it. Better deal to drive to Killeen or Lampasas.
Greens still need work.
Although local TV advertising mentions the complete renovation of a number of greens reopening on Labor Day weekend, There was still one temporary green. Numerous other greens had bare patches. Otherwise, this is a very good municipal course.
6 holes have temporary greens as the permanent greens are being replaced.
6 temporary greens are cut into the fairways with those holes shortened by approximately 40 yards. Difficult to score on the temporary greens. The permanent greens are coming in and a few have already been cut. Water is not an issue as non-potable water is freely applied. Anticipate the future!
Great course but not perfect
The staff is very friendly and helps you with everything you need. The course is great shape for the most part except for the greens. Some of the greens were in terrible condition. Other than that, great course
Fun Course...Bad Greens
This course has a neat layout and is a super laid back place to play. The front nine is pretty wide open and it's tough to lose a lot of balls, so it's great for beginners. There are some cool par 3's and other challenging holes, but the greens are in miserable shape. That's all that keeps me from playing here more often.
Nice open course
Right now the greens are being worked on but course is still playable.
Last resort golf
I played here with my son in law that is stationed at Ft Hood. The course is in dire need of attention, fairways are inconsistent and the greens are just brown patches of dirt. Even the holes were inconsistent, some had these large holes, like buckets and the others were barely cut into the ground. There was a par 3 over water on an elevated tee that was fun but the rest is very poorly kept. Not bad for a beginner or if you get in under 25 bucks, otherwise stay away.
gotta do better
The course is getting away from whoever is SUPPOSED to be maintaining it. It could be a cash chow for the city but it is being ignored, it takes dedicated workers to keep it up and it seems there may be NONE in Copperas Cove.It will be awhile before i go swing my sticks in the Hills of Cove.
