Heather Ridge Golf Course
About
The golf course at Heather Ridge provides not only a good game but also spectacular views overlooking the Rocky Mountains. The former private, 18-hole course is 6,106 yards at its longest tees and plays to a par of 70. Renowned golf course designer Richard Phelps designed the course, which opened in 1972. The small greens are undulating and extremely sloped. The course also features narrow fairways and water hazards. The most difficult hole on the Heather Ridge Golf Course is the 10th hole, which is a par-5 that covers 506 yards.

The storm missed us but we did get a sunset rainbow. Photo submitted by Buckeye28 on 08/01/2013
Meh
Unimpressive staff. Horrible pace of play with no marshal appearance on the back nine. Nice greens with funky breaks.
Memorial weekend golfing
Had a blast golfing with my best buddy Brian and a 1st timer Meagan which btw did awesome as a virgin golfer. Love the course, I play there as often as possible, and will for a long time to come!!
4-26-19
Course was challenging and still growing in. Greens are tough and fast. We were able to play on Friday as a twosome with no pressure from behind. Tees are still sandy and growing in. Good mix of long and short holes. I will go back
Good value and friendly staff
Heather Ridge gives you good bang for your buck. The staff is friendly and accomodating and given it is March I felt the course was in pretty good condition. Ponds and streams had water in them which is rare this time of year and the greens were actually pretty nice. Give them a try!
Great condition for December!
Staff was great, course is better shape than you’d expect for December. Greens were good, they are still watering on the warm days so greens are much better than some of the others I’ve played recently. Fun quirky course, pace of play was great.
Shot Makers course
Shorter but very fun course. Definitely a shot makers course on some of the par 4 holes. Course was in great condition considering middle of December. Greeens in excellent shape except for people not fixing ball marks. No tee markers for some reason? Really enjoyed it. Staff very nice! Will definitely play itt again!
Experience with the course helps to make for an enjoyable round
This was my 3rd and my wife's 1st time here. One thing to note, the course from the scorecard is 6106y blue, 5727y white, and 5204y red. Red tees play 70.9/127 with a bogey rating of 100.7 (cogolf.org) for a par 70 course for ladies, beware!
A great deal beckoned, and we opted in. Some of the tee boxes may not be flat for the red tees, beware. The front 9 allows for some drivers, unless you're a bomber or hooker/slicer. Experience may help you relax a bit, as the houses are actually far enough away to be generally harder to hit. Wind can bring a lot more water into play, know your distances.
Holes #4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, and 15 really try to tug your driver out of your hands, unless you're a straight hitter.
As far as course conditions, the staff has really kept it in good shape. Sure, there are some leaves, but it isn't too bad. The greens are playing very well. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The course is fairly flat and quite walkable, which may be preferable as the temperatures dwindle, though they do have some covered carts it appeared. Call ahead if that's desirable for you.
As far as scores go, for guys, this course can be kind to your scorecard if you play it straight or smart. For ladies, the tee boxes may be a bit of a reach if you hit average distance or less, e.g. #2 is a 371y par 4 and #14 is a 153y par 3. Also, #4, 6, and #13 may get the driver out of your hands, too, if you hit 180-220y.
Overall, this is a nice, interesting course nestled in a neighborhood that will give you some different challenges than perhaps your typical Denver or Aurora city course. Enjoy!
Challenging Greens
Great Golf Course to play. Greens are fast and challenging if you can put on these you can put on any golf course.
Surprisingly challenging for the yardage
As the title suggests, this course is surprisingly challenging for the yardage. The white tees (mid level ability) play only 5727. At that kind of yardage, you'd expect to shoot below your average score quite easily. That is certainly doable if you hit your shots, but be prepared for some surprises.
Water "can" affect 11 holes. Though if you hit it correctly, it shouldn't affect any of them. The greens played true, but there is enough bend to most shots to make you question how much break you'll get on your shot.
Also, several of the holes have structures "in the way" of the ideal line you might take to the green, so you have to play a different line.
I came in expecting a fairly easy course and left wondering why more courses didn't use strategic placements to make the course more of a thinking game where you have to strategize what you need to do to get around the course.
My playing partner and both have 22-26 handicaps (depending on the year, it floats around). We ended up both shooting 49 on the front. He shot 44 on the back and fell apart for non-golf reasons and shot 55 on the back.
For a mid-October round, I was surprised how well the course was maintained. It was in great shape and exceeded my expectations.
Staff Rude
Had the desk yelling at us to hurry up between holes 6 and 7 yet there was nowhere to go the entire day... OVERPRICED. Rude staff. Lots of better values out there. Avoid this course at all costs!!!
Beware of Houses/Windows along The Heather Ridge
1st: Really good staff -starter & cartgirls. Interesting layout, with great greens. They putted fast & held good incoming shots. The greens were really tough for me & had unusual amount of 3putts; but very undulating & some wicked pin-placements. The course was really soft this day & no roll-outs, which this old guy really depends on. This is a short course, but played longer; besides the fact #2 is 450yrd par4. The par 5s are good --#7 is great hole. The only major complaint is the houses along almost every hole --no buffer zone & very much "hit'able" to stray shots. One guy in my group (fairly new to golf) had a scary day with ricochets off houses/roofs (luckily no windows). I'd go back, just for the convenience, the greens, & the Hot Deal Special.
First time at Heather Ridge
Despite back nine being closed for aeration, still had enjoyable time playing front nine 2x. Jim at the pro shop was very polite, couteaous, and accommodating. Appreciate the fact that ice, cups and water are available for free... especially on hot day!!
Hidden Gem
I haven’t played this course in more than 20 years and had forgotten how fun the layout was and the challenge it provided. Lots of over the water shots along with narrow shot windows. So for a shorter length layout it provides ample challenge and reward for for well placed shots.
I’m sorry
Love the course. Has a very nice variety of different holes. Some you need the big dog, some you need a fairway wood of the tee.
Dispite wandering thru condos on many holes, it’s very reasonable and challenging at the same time. Number 7 a par 5 that is a zig zag, requires a plan of attack on every hole.
Today I played with a group of three. Great guys but we were extremely slow. The ranger (yes a ranger) was on us a little. Rightfully so! One of the guys gave him a little unwarranted crap. I apologized to the ranger, then a few holes later, I smacked a pulled hybrid off a tree and hit the Marshal sign on the front windshield of his cart. I’m not sure I’ll be invited back. I don’t think he gets paid enough for this abuse.
But he took it quite well which is very surprising.
I apologized yet again and tried to save bogey! Lol
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Heather Ridge Golf Course. We hope to see you again in the future.
