Gainesville Municipal Golf Course
About
Gainesville’s golf course is pretty much a simple muni-style layout that displays signs of being a links track, but definitely has some character with mature trees and frustrating, deceptive greens. These greens are tough on approach shots because they’re small, and once you’re on them the undulations can burn you for a three-jack. Ralph Plummer supposedly built this in the 1950s, and a creek runs through the course and comes into play several times.
The course is fun because of its relaxing, rural setting, as well as the wide-open fairways that allow you to take full rips on just about every drive.
Getting there : From I-35 north, take Hwy. 82 west. The course is about 3 miles down the road.

Interesting
The layout is good. Just neglected however it’s a good course if you want to get out and just work on your game.
Decent course.
Didn't know it was cart path only but when we realized it the pro worked with us on a resolution for my 89 year old husband. Thanks to him, we could play all 18 holes.
Not Good
First of all, when I arrived at the course, there was a big sign on the door that said "Front Nine Closed ". for aeration. Now you'd think that they would have let customers know that before booking their tee times. And on top of that, just what I could see, all be it from a distance, the front nine looks like it should be closed for extensive maintenance, i.e. dead tree removal, and greening up a lot of the fairways. I like the course layout, but the city needs to put some money in this course. They have a diamond in the rough, but they don't want to polish it.
This course is not the nicest course out there, BUT it has exceptional value. Tee times are always available and the price fits the course. There are some holes that are good for any level of golfer. I play here often. The staff is always friendly and the pace of play is always pretty fast.
A Convenient Walk
The front nine using the white tees comes in at 3453 yds & is a par 37 with three par-fives.
#1 is one of the most open par 5s you will ever encounter. You can encounter water on #2 if you are way right.
For those with a left-to-right ball flight, #3 has a tree right before the water that can affect the path of the ball.
Appropriate placement of the tee shot on #5 is paramount as the hole doglegs right at a 90 degree angle.
On #9, you can increase the likelihood of carrying the water by guiding the ball right on the 2nd shot.
A right-to-left ball flight is ideal on the dogleg left that is #13.
#15 is one of the most open par 4s you will ever encounter.
The setup of #17 is such that if you have a left-to-right ball flight you should take the tee shot over the water.
Several greens (for instance, #7, 12, 13, 15) are small & raised just enough that chipping onto them from the sides can be difficult
There isn't much distance between holes if you're walking.
Great Value
Priced for those that don’t play a lot or play very well. Wide open fairways on most holes yet it provides some challenges. Options for length of course with Blue, White, and Gold for men and Red for women. Some holes need to be marked better as do the yardages. They should make sure their colored stakes are in every fairway and as an addition paint the colored strips on the cart paths.
Great course for the money
Great course for the money. Kid in the pro shop was very nice and welcoming (forgot to ask for his name). Greens need a little help, but other than that the course was fine. VERY fast pace of play, got finished in about 2 hours. Will be back again for the right price.
Good round to sharpen skills
Price is very lucrative, course upkeep leaves something to be desired. Some of the greens are in rough shape. Most of the course is in decent shape. The fairways are hard to define as there isn’t a difference between rough and fairway grass height or quality. The course layout is challenging, lots of obstacles. Overall I am happy with the course for the price. I think it is a good course to fine tune your skills.
course is so so.
Came from Ft Worth to play b/c I got it for $13 on Golf Now. Flash price was for walking only which I didn’t see stated. Front desk allowed us as a 1 time courtesy carts for free. That was great but if I had seen this special didn’t include a cart, I wouldn’t have bothered. All fairway grass was dead and 1/2 the greens were bad. I would have been upset if I paid the regular $39 to play.. We had a woman in our 4some so we let a lot of people play thru to not hold them up and that was nice. Course is very flat n open so not very challenging. If you want to let your driver rip this is a course to play..
It's a simple municipal course aslong as you have that in your expectations this is a fantastic course to learn on and a great value for the money if you look for deals it can be had for $10 with a cart
Needs a Greenskeeper
The course could be a hidden gem, if it had someone who knew how to maintain the greens. From tee to green, the course is soft and great. Once on the green however, just pickup you ball and move on. Unfortunately it’s always been this way. I’ve been playing this course for years and the greens have always been terrible. However, they recently raised their fees. That prompted me to write this review. If they’re going to demand a higher rate, then they need to fix the greens so that we can putt.
Could be ok
This course needs some love and it might be ok. It has 18 holes but aside from that needs some tlc.
