Gainesville Municipal Golf Course

About
Gainesville’s golf course is pretty much a simple muni-style layout that displays signs of being a links track, but definitely has some character with mature trees and frustrating, deceptive greens. These greens are tough on approach shots because they’re small, and once you’re on them the undulations can burn you for a three-jack. Ralph Plummer supposedly built this in the 1950s, and a creek runs through the course and comes into play several times.
The course is fun because of its relaxing, rural setting, as well as the wide-open fairways that allow you to take full rips on just about every drive.
Getting there : From I-35 north, take Hwy. 82 west. The course is about 3 miles down the road.

Bad greens
The greens are in very rough shape with some type of grass diease
Good for everyone.
This is the second time we have played at Gainesville. I have only been playing for 3 years but am challenging myself to improve. This is the perfect course for me with the water placement. I need practice getting distance in the air. The course is easy to follow and comfortable for us
Second time
Had such a good time the first time we had to try it again. The course was in great shape including the greens. It will challenge any skill level especially if the wind is involved. They still need more amenities in the pro shop BUT ....overall rating GREAT
Play while it’s green
Haven’t been here is 30+ years and glad I came back. Great value. The course could use a little more TLC but very playable. There are lots of trees that need trimmed and greens were slower than others we play. I can see this course drying up quickly so play while the fairways are green.
Great for the price!
The course overall was a lot of fun! I would suggest this course for beginners who need a little extra time to play. The course itself was not busy and allowed you to take your time at your own pace. The course conditions need improvement especially on some of the greens as they are patchy and can mess with your putt game. The staff in the front was super friendly and even allowed us to try a rental driver for free :-) For the price of the play... we couldn’t recommend this course enough! We had a blast and definitely will be returning! The only complaint we have is the one bathroom that was mid course was horrific! I don’t think it was actually in operating condition but it did appear to have been used on numerous occasions. I wouldn’t dare EVER go near it again! We opted for trees, bushes, and surrounding greenery instead! Lol Great course, small town, lots of fun!
Worth the drive
Excellent staff, friendly and very accomodating. Worth the drive from the Metroplex
Greens in bad shape
I have always enjoyed playing this course -- been playing here on and off for over forty years. It is a really good layout and pretty wide open -- not extremely difficult, but a fun course to play. The one thing I've always liked about this course is the great condition of the greens. They have always been well-maintained and smooth to putt. But on this occasion the greens were terrible. Half the putting service was bare on almost all the greens -- they were just dirt. The rest of the course was in good condition, but the greens were so bad it took all the enjoyment out of the round. I could not recommend this course to anyone with the greens in their current condition. If they can return the greens to their normal smooth putting surfaces, then I would recommend this course for a fun round of golf.
The back 9 is fun and challenging.
The course has gotten to better condition. The front 9 is pretty straight forward. The back 9 is fun, and the holes and greens are a little bit more challenging.
