Omg! I love the course. It is super nice, and very challenging, which makes me learn a lot. I am about a 22 handicap.
It is beautiful and very challenging. I am about a 22 handicap golfer and working on improving. This course will make you learn fast.
In awesome condition and well taken care of.
Courses in great shape, I'm not a big fan of the layout of a few of the holes. Too much target golf for me! Friendly staff, value, and course conditions will keep me coming back for more pain.
Course in great shape
Be ready for a test. It's got a few holes that I'm not a fan of but everything and everyone out there is first class!
Felt Like Georgia
What’s BIG golf course! Elevations and and 100’ pine trees felt like playing in North Georgia. Needs to mature and fill in. A second-shot golf course. Staff always AWESOME.
Great Course
This is still a very fine course. Took my son out here . He agreed it is beautiful place to play. It needs more water on it, as some of the fairways were getting a little brown. Will keep playing it at least every other week.
Tempest Golf Club
A hidden gem .... I really enjoyed playing this golf course.and the greens were in great shape.. I will play it again.
THE place to play
Played here several times. Great course. Greens, fairways great shape. They need to water more, as tee boxes very dry and hard. Can’t wait to play it again.
Quickly one of top courses in Texas
A new course less than 2 years old usually needs some time to mature but Tempest has in just a short time reached the top of the list of great courses you should play. Just a few miles from Kilgore and just of I-30, the layout is carved out of dense East Texas forest, creeks and valleys. There are few high dollar houses scattered around but for the most part, pure wilderness surrounds. Jeff Brauer has worked hard to become one of best architects who balances three priorities, beauty, challenge and playability. Each hole offers opportunity for all skill levels through multiple tee boxes and landing areas for each. Course conditions are superb, except for the driving range which for some reason is still a work in progress. The clubhouse is wonderful with many dining and refreshment choices. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable compared to the big cities. FYI, the is an RV Park next door so if you have one, park it and play multiple days. Any round is sure to be memorable.
Bad Layout
Bad Layout. The soil is clay hardpan and it was cart path only for no apparent reason. I played at 7am and was having to wait on the group ahead of me every hole. Ended up just quitting after 9 holes. You also couldn’t drive the cart to your car, kinda odd for an East Texas public course.
Loved the new layout, greens seemed a little slow but sure that they will get faster. Been a lot of rain in the area and the sand traps were in bad shape but liked the placement of them. Will look forward to playing this course again
Scenic Rollercoaster Ride
Tempest, formerly Shadow Creek near Gladewater, is a beautiful track. The greens are still young and there is some more work to do here, hence the four stars. However, on the day we played, the weather was fabulous which only enhanced our enjoyment of this course. There are myriad elevation changes on many holes with plenty of risk/reward opportunities. There several blind shots which can be fun but treacherous if you don’t have a Sherpa yo help you find the target lines!
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have told several golfing buddies already. It takes a lot of balls to play this gem. Both kinds!
Mike
Booked on golf now, the course management failed to notify of greens being aereated. Tee boxes were very muddy. If we had known this we would have waited to book another day. Other than that beautiful course
Outstanding track.
What a wonderful surprise. Great layout, challenging , but great fun. Courser is still maturing, but absolutely a diamond in the rough. Can’t wait to go back.
Great course. Will be beautiful when grass gets growing!!!
Great layout
Great developing course. New and in developing into a premier course.
Tempest course will be great. But not yet
This is a new course opening in Aug 2018. The layout is great but the course is still trying to grow into a full ready to play state. The one critique for now is the old cup locations on most greens are not plugged well at all. Every one was sunk below grade. That needs fixing immediately. By late summer 2019 this course should be moving toward excellence. My group will be back for sure. Pro club and grill staff were customer friendly making us feel welcome. Bottom line this course has solid infrastructure to become a high class layout.
Wow!
The major renovations are off the chart. I was a member here years ago and with the renovation, I didn’t recognize this course. What a great experience! Definitely the best course in East Texas for sure.
They do not honor GolfNow pricing.
The course is great. Solid layout, excellent routing and challenging where it needs to be. The course will be in great shape come Spring once the grass has finally grown in.
My only qualms stem from the fact that the course does not honor GolfNow pricing. It was booked for $47 a player on golfnow but the course charged $55 per player in the shop even after I pushed back on the GolfNow listed price. In addition, the pro shop informed me that they charge a convenience fee of their own for golfnow reservations in addition to the fee that GolfNow has built into their model.
The course also enters everyone (for a fee) into their hole-in-one contest and will not allow you to opt out as it is “built into the price of the green fee.” This all took place after the fact that the pro shop didn’t open until 20 minutes AFTER my tee time had already passed. These separate fees were not listed on the online reservation and this lack of integrity is 100% on Tempest and not GolfNow.
This is a horrid business model and the course refuses to honor their published pricing commitments. It left a really bad taste in my mouth and I would definitely recommend Pine Dunes in Frankston over this course because it is simply better and they don’t treat their customers as poorly as Tempest.
This course is NOT run like the other Jeff Brauer designs (Cowboys, Biwabik, etc.) where the customer always comes first and they receive a first class experience. Buyer beware.
