Golfer Reviews
Great course BUT
We went out early and let a single go through. Then a three some hit in to us twice. We let them play through at hole 10. The three some became a five some and the three some behind us was pushing us. We played a miserable round of golf being pushed and we were terribly disappointed. Very frustrating
Hidden Gem in Western Maryland!!
Played this gem yesterday on a great deal through GolfNow, and all I can say is "I will be back!!" It is a 4 1/2 hour drive from Philadelphia, but the scenery and course is worth the trip. Met the superintendent early in the morning, and after speaking with him you could tell that he really cares about the upkeep of the course and it's conditions. Due to the Covid situation they have only been open for about two weeks, and he was telling us that there was still some work that needed to be done on the course, but it was very hard to tell where. With the limited staff due to Covid, he mentioned that some of the grassy areas around the bunkers needed to be cut, but honestly I couldn't tell. Greens were in great shape, and although not cut short, ran pretty fast. A lot of undulation on the greens which made putting a challenge, but that was my fault putting it far from the pin.
There were a few blind shots from the tee boxes, but if you hit them straight and aim for the 150 marker there will be no issues. Wide fairways and large greens helped as well. One nice thing, in my opinion, is that you cannot see another hole from the current hole you play.
All of the staff were friendly from Pro Shop, Superintendent and grounds crew, Ranger, and On site Professional. We got a fantastic deal through GolfNow, but even without the deal, I will be back. I want to play it when the Superintendent feels that the course is in great shape. Thanks to the staff for making it a great experience. I wish I lived a little closer.
Great day on the course
This course was a real challenge and in perfect condition. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
Nice Mountain Layout
Played today thru a great deal on GolfNow. Hilly mountain course with very undulated, big greens. Course in nice shape except for a few soft spots in a few fairways. Nice views of Deep Creek Lake also. Always a fun, adventurous round thru the woods of Western Md.
Greens are huge and well maintained except for ball marks. Layout is superb as are conditions. In my top 5 all time, and I’ve played Oakmont, Pinehurst and Firestone!
Hidden Gem at the Lake
Excellent layout for a mountain top course, playable but challenging and has some very memorable holes...13 and 17 are awesome!
Best Staff at any course I've played
The gentleman working the day we played (I think his name was Brent) was a class act. A lot of courses usually treat golfnow people like they don't belong there but never at Lodestone and especially Brent. He was very accommodating to our schedule because we were running late and never gave us any grief at all for our tardiness. The weather was absolutely stunning on the day we played and the course was wet but still perfectly playable. I just wish they had a bigger selection of food at the club house you have to go back to the resort for full meal but that is fully understandable. I would highly recommend this course to anyone with the PGA size greens, the heavenly views, the wildlife, the impeccable service, and the great layout, this course has it all and then some! If you are ever at Deep Creek and like to golf you have to play this course!
Will play again!
The layout of the course is great. We had to deal with a very wet course due to heavy rain a day earlier. Also, the greens were aerated and not putting as fast as they normally due. Roxanne was helpful and friendly which added to our pleasurable experience. Plan to play again during the summer.
Great Gem in the country side
Played this course for 5 years now when visiting my friends in Oakland for vacation, i am always looking forward to the round. Beautifully nestled in the hills with fantastic views. Course fairways are well maintained and greens are a 7 - 8
A must play when you are in the neighborhood
Excellent Mountain Course
Course in great shape with spectacular views.
Greens very tricky to read but rolled true.
A bit pricy but worth it.
Great Moutain Course
Amazing layout with great views of the lake. 2 amazing par 3s on the back half. The greens rolled nice. Hard course to score on without having played it before and knowing the greens. The large undulating greens puts a premium on being in the right spots.
A must play if you are within 50 miles
Great all the way around. From the friendly staff to the amazing course. The layout could be the best I’ve played. A little pricey for most but you get what you pay for. It is well worth it. Bring your own water though, they give a bottle in your cart but none on the course. I will be back.
Nice mountain course with great views
I heard a lot of good things about this course before I played here including it was the second best public course in Maryland. That being said, it was a very nice course, but the conditions did not quite live up to expectations. The greens were much better at Fantasy Valley - the other course owned by Wisp. We played there the day before and was expecting Lodestone to be just as nice.
I really liked the layout of the course. I like courses where the holes are spread out and not stacked up on top of each other. It really makes pace of play better.
The staff was very friendly, and it is a nice bonus for them to put bottled water and towels in the carts for you.
We came up for a buddy golf trip with 8 golfers and will try to make this an annual trip. We had a great time and the weather was perfect.
