Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Club

About
John Bredemus stopped off here in the 1920s to open up Kerrville’s first golf course. Originally private when it opened in 1923, the course was acquired by the city in the 1930s and the course remained public ever since.
Situated on gently rolling terrain, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding Texas hill country. R.D. Kizer and Joe Finger have had their hands in molding the layout, which features somewhat generous fairways and an interesting combination of mounded greens.
Bredemus designed the front nine, which is highlighted by the classic 592-yard par 5. This is a mean hole, with water cutting into the fairway twice and an elevated green that requires a perfect approach. The hole has character, with water along the right and an ominous-looking cliff framing the view. Another notable hole on the front is the dogleg-left No. 7, with trees dominating the left side.
The signature hole is No. 17, a 535-yard par 5. Water comes into play on the second shot and then again on the approach to the green, which is surrounded by water on three sides. A waterfall to the left of the green adds a pleasing aesthetic.
The back nine, which opened in 1977, is more forgiving than the front. The best hole is the tough, par 5 No. 17. If you survive the tee shot, water comes into play on both the second and third shots. The last shot is particularly pleasing because of the waterfall on the left side of the green.
Getting there : From I-10 west, take Hwy. 16 south and turn left on Country Club Dr.

Diverse and fun!
First course to ever play and still my favorite, very diverse. Got my first eagle on hole one!
Played with a member
They buddied us up with a member of the club. He was great but we wanted to play at a faster pace. We ended up short on time and only played 14 holes. Maybe next time we will get to play all the holes.
Great views
The course was awesome, we enjoyed the views and all the deer running around. We ended up playing 2 rounds overall and both times of the day were fun. The greens were overseeded so they were slow but still fun, we'll definitely be back because the fees weren't that bad either.

Coarse in good condition. Greens freshly sanded. Should be great soon. Still good though.
Sand on Putting green
Usually this is not an issue but today there was sand on the putting green. I’ve played there at least 7 times this is the first time this course had that happen. The staff is always very helpful and friendly 100% of the time. The greens were in good condition some muddy spots but that’s to be expected from the rain. This is one of my favorite courses. 100% recommend worth the money.
Fun course
I enjoyed playing at S.Schreiner, it was my first time out coming from San Antonio, I liked how there is a creek throughout the course along with other water features on some of the holes. Course is maintained nicely there were a few greens that needed repair or attention, but overall staff is friendly, facility is well kept and nice. I will be back out for another round.

Wide open. Some greens are needing attention. Fairways great. Most greens are awesome. Nice layout. Hilly.
Great golfing
Staff is great the golf course is in good shape felt a little rushed on the back half from other players but still had a great time.
Golf...
what a frustrating game. We had a great time, just didn't play very well. We always enjoy this course.

Coarse is in great shape. Very hilly and greens are awesome. Very friendly staff. Recent rain has the coarse in really good shape. Good layout. Worth playing many times.
Stranger
Somewhat wet. Cart path only. Greens couldn't be mowed. Real slow.
Greens aerated
It would have been nice to know that the front 9 had been aerated when booking this tee time. Back 9 greens had not been mowed in awhile; very hairy.
Course needs some TLC, it was a bit of a goat track in places.
No cartperson on the course for libation/snacks and it was a Saturday.
Birthday Gold
Tried a new place to pay god on my birthday and we will definitely be back!
Hilly
The coarse is in great shape. Greens roll true. Great layout and very scenic. Great hill country coarse.
Come see me.
This is the best golf course around. Great layout and friendly staff. Love this .
great quality
This course is a really good course, especially considering it is a municipal. I reside almost an hour away from the course with plenty of other courses much closer to me, but I can definitely see myself going here more often.
