About

Deerwood came along in 1981 featuring a long, demanding track created by Joe Finger and Byron Nelson. Lake Houston lines the course and its water provides hazards on every hole but two. Tee shots demand length and accuracy, and the greens feature some of the most severe undulations in the Houston area.

This quality course hosted the second stage of the PGA Tour's Qualifying Tourney in 1994, and is known for its signature 13th hole, which plays 170 yards into an island green. However, many claim the 453-yard No. 4 is the most difficult around: an almost impossible hole that requires a huge drive and a long carry over water to reach the green in regulation.

Getting there : From Hwy. 59 north, take the Kingwood Dr. exit and turn right. Drive 5 miles to Forest Garden and turn right, then another mile to the course. The entrance is on the right.

What's not to like

I had the privilege of playing this course with a member and the course did not disappoint. Fairways were perfect and greens rolled true. This is a sneaky long, tree lined course so accuracy is a must off the tee box. One of the Par 4s in the back (13th or 14th) was the 18th hole from the movie TinCup and it was fun to try to hit the green in 2 like the movie. I hit my second shot short and into the pond. 16th and 17th holes along the Lake Houston is a nice way to finish your round as well.

Best Kept Secret In Texas

Course recondition after Harvey and is currently in the best condition ever. Club House is super with bar, dinning & locker rooms.

New driving range with putting green opening in August using Titlest range balls.

Greens are large & usually fast.with very fine fairways.

Over all course is challenging but fair.

Staff very friendly & helpful.
