About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Great greens
This course is a great test and is always in good shape.
Better than the Average Pay and Play course
I booked 4 x4 tee times to organize a small Texas scramble with nearest the pin prizes. The staff were very accommodating has we changed out players etc. they provided an excellent all round service and ensured we had a very enjoyable day. I have played this course on a number of occasions and have found the layout with strategic use of the water hazards and trees to be challenging and yet not too punitive to soil you day when dealing with a group of players with a broad range of handicap. The fairways and greens were in good condition. I would have no hesitation in recommending the course to other players

Great municipal course
I've been playing Bay Forest golf course since 1993 and it has always been kept up with and manicured top notch. Greens are up to speed and cut regularly. Bad reviews say greens are too fast but thats just hacks who have no clue.

Best value in the area
Greens were fantastic, pace of play was smooth, and the cart girl made her way around 3-4 times. Friendly staff and great course conditions overall. Will definitely be back!

Course layout and staff
3 par fives all in 9 holes are unique!!! Very rare and I like that. I am usually a walk-on and they have accommodated me the best they could and my hat is off to them. I play when I can for my wife is battling cancer which doesn’t allow me to book in advance.

Paths
Cart paths are in dire need of attention. Course was cart paths only on the day I played. I understand the need to require that as the course was very wet. Staying on the paths was pretty unpleasant due to the incredibly bumpy ride.

Disappointing 5 some
Live this course and highly enjoy it. It was disappointing they let 2 five somes ahead of us and no help getting pst them. I have no problem I suppose if people want to play a 5 some but at least give a little Marshall help to someone trying to play through.

Best course conditions played all year!!
A lot of courses struggled with the freeze, greens and rain, not this place. Greens in great shape, fairways is good shape. Best course for your money in the area IMO.
