The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Good and can still be great course.
First course I ever played in Houston area (30 years ago) and it was top notch. Sure it’s a muni but with some grooming and marketing to support each other could regain top level status.
They are back!!
The evidence of past management mistakes are virtually gone! I’ve always loved this track and finally will put it back on my regular playlist. Can’t beat the practice facility, carts in great shape, Republic Grill is dependable again; can’t wait to get back soon.
5 hr round Sunday evening
Pace too slow to be enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon.
A day of golf
My wife and I, we enjoyed this couse great fun and perfect layout for beginners. I do recommend bringing extra balls ther is alot of water. The par 3 are always a challenge.
Decent track
Pretty good track. Pace of play was a little slow but not terrible for a weekend round (4.5 hours).
Greens were on the slower side but in good shape.
Lots of hazzards, sand traps in good shape but the sand had a mushy texture.
2nd time not charming
I like this course.
The problems were as follows:
The pro shop cashier was overwhelmed, numerous patrons and only one cashier. He was doing his best too much for one person.
The snack bar had a sign posted, “Open, be right back.” There were at least 5 flights of players waiting to buy stuff, no one showed up.
I want to reinforce my opinion on the course as an outstanding value. Just don’t expect anything from cart person or snack bar.
A great course to play a round
We have played Battleground many times before. This year, they have new carts, which makes it that much better. Make sure to eat at the Republic Grill in the clubhouse. We were a little worried since it was raining beforehand, but the course was actually very playable. Drainage of the course was excellent, only problem was the sun was out to torture us that afternoon. Will definitely play here again.
Challenging
This course is a lot of fun to play. Very challenging course because it narrow with lots of large trees. Makes it a lot fun. Have to think through your shots not just hit it.
Only down fall is the greens were aerated. Small aeration holes along with having to have the grass longer n them made putts challenging.
Overall will be back to play again
Worst Pace of Play
Booked a tee time for noon and finished at 4pm. Multiple groups , multiple singles playing together instead of grouped. No marshal in sight.
Will not be coming back to play.
Nice Course
Fun and challenging for a fair price! The course is in good condition.
Spray the junk grass around the greens
Course could be good but 3 and 4 inch junk grass on collars of the greens is ridiculous. Supposedly 200+rounds on weekdays. Spend some of that revenue on weed killer
