About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

I’ve been playing BF for years. It is the best course for the money any where in the Bay Area. The staff is great, the Marshall’s are always nice and do a great job. They try hard to keep the course in good shape and the range is way above average. Can’t go wrong playing BF.

Still Best Course for the Money
This course continues to be the best value in the Houston area. I play a lot of different courses through GolfNow and Bayforest rarely disappoints. Sometimes the pace of play can be brutal because of hacks not letting people play through. I suppose that's any course though. This place just seems to attract more of them.

Brutal greens...and squirrels
Bay Forest has always been known for the mutant squirrels but this time they went too far. One smelled (sensed?) a banana in my golf bag and ripped two zipper pouches in search of the food. I came back from putting green to find it still going at the bag. Totally ruined.
The greens were in the worst shape I’ve ever seen them - going back to 1994. Hopefully that is corrected soon - really do enjoy the course usually.

BEST public course in the Houston area
Great layout, course in great shape, fairways are green and lots of grass. Lots of water, but fair. Greens are in great shape after a hard freeze in February. Great value for the cost.

Greens are work in progress
Bay Forest usually has very good greens. Right now they’re working on them & in the difficult period between winter & spring. I’m sure they’ll be good again in a couple weeks.

Great course and friendly staff
Dispite all the rain we had over the pass days the course was playable. Always a great course to play no matter the conditions. The starter entertained us while waiting which was pretty cool. Highly recommend course.

Best course in houston for the money
Greens not what they usually are, presumably because of the recent freeze. Otherwise, the course is a great layout. Some fairways still a bit lumpy.

Always a pleasure to play
I have to say that I have now played this course a couple dozen times, and it never seems to get old. The course layout is challenging, and hole, and tee box placement change regularly .........which is great.
The speed of play is always good (less than 4 hours), and the pro shop staff, as well as the starters are always friendly.
