Bay Forest Golf Course
About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Fair
Enjoy the layout of the course. Greens in great shape and running true. Fairways in several holes are bumpy. A number of shots took severe bounces left or right due to the bumps. Other than that a fine course
Grat course, poor marshal of course
Greens in great condition, fairways a little bare - somewhat normal for this time of year. Very slow pace of play, seems everyone wants to gather and talk about every shot with other players in group - very frustrating. Don't think they know the term "ready golf".
5 par-5s and 5 par-3s
This course have 5 par-5s and 5 par-3s, which creates more birdy opportunities, at least for me. I wish more courses had this layout. Otherwise, staff is friendly, lots of good regulars are members, and the conditions are good for the price. It does get pretty crowded on the weekends, but the pace isn't bad compared to some of the more popular courses around Houston. I need to play here more often.
Great layout of the golf course
Course in great shape , fairways nicely cut , greens run fast with good pin placement . Great challenging course.
Good - Not Great - Track
Course was in good shape. 7:30 tee time had a fairly heavy fog and a lot of mosquitos.
Couple of complaints . . .
Starter allowed the twosome I was paired with to play out of one bag (they were good guys but it slowed us down).
Staff not exactly the friendliest and the small bucket of range balls is only a handful of balls.
Great round
The check-in process was very smooth and the staff were very friendly. The greens were super fast and took me a while to get my distance control down - try and spend time on practice green before your round - I didn't and wished I had. It was very windy which makes the course a lot more difficult. Course was in great shape and had a lot of fun and challenging day.
Fantastic Course Conditions
Bay Forest has always been a consistently good course, but they've stepped up their game in the past few years. All new shoring around the ponds & lakes, well maintained fairways and the greens are in fantastic shape. Soft & receptive, and running pretty fast for your putts. The best value around the southeast side of Houston.
Always Awesome
Track is always in great shape. Lucky to live so close. People are always great.
Not My First Rodeo Here
Interesting and fun challenge. Over the years, the course has gotten tougher due to tree placement and growth on #10 & #9 #4. I also prefer having real bunkers with sand in them. Personally I don't care for hole #8. Greens are slick, so be careful. Wood structures where water meets land look really nice.
Good greens
The greens were in great shape.
Most of the ball washer stations were empty.
Staff could be a little friendlier.
Great time
Great time and can't wait to play this course again. Other than it being cart path only that the course couldn't help it was great.
A great Municipal track...
This is a great course for pro or amatuer..if you are the latter take extra golf balls...water on most holes...
Nice course
had to walk some holes due to flooding but looks like they are trying to drain it. Unfortunate that more women don't play here as the men players stared like we were from outer space [or maybe they don't like women on "their" course] as we saw only one other playing. Staff was extremely helpful and very nice.
Great outing
Pace of play was fantastic. Club house staff was awesome. Snack bar staff friendly. Enjoyed my round. Coming back soon.
the golf carts were in good condition
I enjoyed playing this course and will play again.
Diamond in the Rough
Let's start with the best thing about this municipal course - they make you feel like you are a member of a country club. Friendly, beers in a bag of ice, 6 or more they give you a cooler with ice. The course like most courses near Galveston Bay is fairly flat; but they've done a nice job with elevating most greens and the greens actually have some contour to them. The green rolled great and the fairways were in great shape. Granted it was only about 2 weeks after a month of rain and I'm sure it could dry out in a hurry. At one time this course was trapped very well around the greens; now, some of the traps have been allowed to grow over. Still a challenge for the average golfer. Tree'd well, but forgiving enough for someone who slices or pushes the ball.
For the money, I paid $43, it is as good a municiple course experience and would recommend to anyone but a scratch golfer who may not find it challenging enough. I give it a 4 amateur municiple rating.
Great shape
The course was in great shape considering the drought we are going through. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice course - slow play
Awesome layout; decent conditions - overall one of the nicer courses available for outside play. The 'deltas'; bring bug spray (knats are horrible); and they allow members to play fivesomes (which I understand, they pay the dues - but it results in extremely slow play for everyone- this practice is ridiculous for ANY course). Staff is very friendly. In summary one of best values in the area. I would definitely recommend.
Nice course for the money
Nice course
It's worth the money
I would only recommend they invest in their restaurant
Great
Great course would definitely recommend it to a friend
