About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

course is above average
The greens were pretty good with speed but some greens had nut grass on them.
Value Here
One of the best values in the Houston area, this course has all the water that you can stand.
The greens can really get rolling, although they are a bit hard.
The staff is friendly enough, and the cart attendant is usually on duty through the week.
This course has a few short par 5's so you can make up some ground on your buddies if you have to press.
Number 9 is a short par four. It is as narrow as a hallway, lined with trees.
Excellent as always
Have played this course more than a couple hundred times probably. Love this course. It never disappoints. Greens in excellent shape. Fairways a bit bumpy but they are working on that. Water on 15 of the 18 holes ensure you don't get too confident. If it becomes too easy from the whites, move back to the blues... One of the best courses in Houston area for the money.
Some Great holes 5 ,and 16 nice location
Overall great course to play plenty of par5s and hole 5 and 16 are exceptional. Nice greens too

Nice track
Enjoyed playing this course. Not much topographical variation, but water on most holes keeps it interesting. Greens in excellent shape, traps good. Fairways OK for this time of year. Five par fives and five par threes are a bit different. Very good value for the $$, definitely want to play it again.

Greg and the staff are great! Everyone who plays this course will feel right at home. The greens are some of the best around. Course is always well manicured. You won't regret the drive!

Nice layout
The course is challenging with water and play on many holes but not too difficult to avoid if you block them out mentally water hazards I mean greens are in excellent shape grass barely growing out but rolling true. Practice facilities are an added bonus especially the chipping area.

Course was in great shape since they were preparing for a TGA junior golf tournament over the weekend. Greens quick as usual.
You get what you pay for
as far as the course itself, it's not a terrible course... The tee boxes need to be cleaned up because there are multiple divots as well as unlevel everywhere ... I suggest you get there an hour early so you can warm up.. Twice now, we have arrived at 2:00 for a 2:38 tee time and at 2:10 they were paging us to -#1 and by 2:20 they were announcing it was our last call to come to the tee box ! If I had wanted a 2:20 tee time I would've asked for one ... You absolutely HAVE to pair up on golf carts.. I was paired with a threesome , which was fine , but told I had to turn in my cart, at a 230 tee time when there were easily 20-25 carts available ... I would think pace of play (their reasoning for it) would be helped if golfers had their own cart to go straight to their ball.. Had it been busy or earlier in the day maybe it wouldn't have been such a big deal ... So for 30$ the course is a decent play but I won't go back there solely due to the staff and facility ..
Great layout, extremely fast greens!!
I really enjoy playing this course! It's challenging and requires you to "work " your bag. Being a good lag putter will allow you to score on this course. The course has water hazards on some holes, and I've noticed they have taken out a lot of the bunkers. The course is a gem in the Houston area! !
Battle at the Bay
Course was fun. People work not so much fun. also over priced. Battleground is right down the road at a better price and course.
Great Bermuda greens
Found a dirt cheap golf now deal for $13. Some of the best greens I have ever played. Rest of the course is in good shape, but nothing "beautiful". Worth the drive to the course just to putt these fast, smooth, true greens.
Great course
I read the positive reviews about Bay Forest and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. The course was immaculate. From tee to green, the course was in great shape, with the exception of a couple of holes they were touching up. The course has some nice slope to it which made it challenging for a beginner like me. Another challenging aspect was the amount of water hazards the course had. I took 3 mulligans on one hole due to my balls getting wet off the tee.
I've played 10 different courses around the greater Houston area and this is definitely tied for 1st as far as my favorite courses go. I will definitely be playing her much more often.
Under construction
Several holes are shortened and under construction. The staff made us and another 2some pair even though the field was wide open. The other 2 also bought Golf Now. After we teed off we noticed other golfer were teeing in 2s and not waiting.
Excellent course
I played this course and was pleased with it for the most part. The greens were good and rolled true. The only negative were the traps...they had not been raked at all.
Great shape considering the drought
would play it again. Greens were fast and true. Play was a little slow because of people who don't know golf edicate but not courses fault.
