Bay Forest Golf Course

About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

A bit suffering
Some greens and fairways have patches and t-boxes had been moved on two par 3. Needs precipitation to get soft grounds on the fairways…
Pace of play bad and sprinklers at 2pm
Not sure why they would send 5 ball. They played for 5 hrs and we were stuck behind. We saw at least 3, 5 balls. Who in the right mind would switch on the sprinklers at 2 pm.
Lucky we played on weekday. Not sure how weekend would be. Wouldnt come back
For the rate it's a decent course.
Don't plan of playing a full round
Played this course twice in a two week span. First time the wife and I heard screaming between groups due to pace of play. Shrugged it off a one of situation. Came back the next week due to overall decent course conditions and price and that where I gained and understanding of why groupd were fighting the week prior. Time time before 3 o clock and we only got 13 holes played because how badly they managed the groups. There was a 6'some, then a 5 some, then a 4 some, then 3- 2 somes(us being the lead 2 some). They wouldn't let anyone play through. There was no Marshall. The group behind us called rhe clubhouse but they refused to help saying,"sorry the Marshall is gone for the day and I'm the only one in the pro shop". Dude, seriously, put up a sign saying be back in 10 minutes and lock up, its not that complicated. I can guarantee you all the groups behind the 6 some will not be coming back...ever
Deep Roughs, Great Fairways, Ok Greens, Challenging Course
The title says most of the review. Staff was nice and the course was challenging. Again, DEEP roughs, lost a few balls that way. Fairways were cut nicely and felt good. Greens were ok, some HUGE greens and others were smaller, few dirt spots. Lots of well placed water and trees for challenge. Bunkers were DEEP, but well maintained. Snack cart came by often for how busy it was. Price was great for a better course than Pasadena Municipal.
Only complaints would be the constant forward to backward course layout. Golfers with slices be warned or you’re gonna be play your ball on the next hole up. And then pace of play, lots of veteran golfers so they would par or birdie easily and gather up on my group before we were finished with holes. Not courses issue, but something to look out for.
Would definitely play here again there
Great Course in Great Shaoe
Bay Forest is a a great public course. Excellent staff, great layout, well maintained and will not break the bank.
Maintenance
Overall the course was in fair condition. They are still picking up from the hurricane a few months ago. I feel the most important thing is course grass and maintenance. The rough was pretty long. If you hit one off the fairway in some sections you could not locate your ball. The green were in “ok” condition. Some were very good while some were very bad. I will play again because it’s close to the house. Overall the course was as good as playing at South Shore Harbour country club.

Bay Forest review
The course was in great shape, greens were true. I only wish my game would have been a little better.
Good course
Fun and challenging track. Great value for your golfing $$$.
Good shape as usual
The course is in good shape as usual. The greens are a little slower than they’ve been in the past but they still roll true. The cart girl came by often which is good in this heat. The snack bar always has great fast and friendly service. I’ve been playing here for many years and will continue to do so.
Bay Forest is Great
Course looks great...fairways, tee boxes, and greens. Greens rolling real fast which made it hard for me as this course is tough already.
