PGA Riviera Maya Golf Club has been ranked as one of the top five golf courses in Mexico. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the Championship Course winds through lush Mayan jungle. Natural lakes also dot the scenic landscape. Being so close to the ocean, wind definitely comes into play, especially on the tough par-3 second hole, which plays directly into the prevailing winds. If you are able to keep your shots in the fairway, you'll surely be rewarded with a good lie and a challenging, but fair approach. Jones carefully carved the golf course from the deepest part of a limestone quarry, spreading the fairways across treacherous jungle growth that is just waiting to swallow up errant shots. In addition to the championship layout, there is also an Executive Course that is one of the best nine-hole golf courses in the Rivera Maya.

Great experience

This is a spectacular course with a very challenging layout

If you are not a straight shooter bring enough balls. The golf carts Do not have distance indicators and club cleaning equipment

But I bring always my own equipment anyway

Some reviews here are very negative which I do not understand. For a real golfer the layout and the condition of the course are the most important and they are wonderful

Played the course about seven times and never got tired of it

Travel guru

Wow, is the first word coming out of my mouth, the first hole starts off with a super tight drive and continues and never lets up, either water, sand or jungle on each sides of the fairways, then cenotes (deep water holes), rock cliffs, palm trees double breaking fairways, crowned greens and par 3's in excess of 250yds with water hazard from T to green. This is a great course, forget the lousy carts, mediocre balls on the range, what matters is this amazing course. From the tips it will be the hardest challenge for any golfers, I am a 4 handicap , kept it straight and still shot a 10 over. Staff is great, club house amazing and the best snack bar with amazing food.

Good course convenient to Barcelo Resort

Guest Services at the Barcelo Rivera Maya booked my tee times for two days last week. I had no idea about the course but with the hotel handling transportation, I was in. The price is about average for non Mayakoba courses in the area. Layout was challenging with no way to find "jungle balls" but the fairways were lush, greens well-grassed - if a little slow but typical for resorts. The carts are in sad shape - check and makes sure your parking brake works. All in all, being about a 15 minute ride, it was worth it.

Geissap Richmond, Virginia 1539 Manage your expectations, this ain't Pebble Beach, but for $100 bucks it was great.

The one star reviews are so poor on this site. I don't know how someone can talk about how BEAUTIFUL the course is and give it 1 star? Sure take off a star or two for the carts. They were pretty much what most people have said. We had a GPS that worked decent, the cart was super whippy and fast, it was electric but it didn't have great brakes. We did indeed have to use a rock in a couple areas to stop it, but so what? Who are you people that are golfing based off of your cart? Like who cares about the cart, if you care about that maybe get into go kart racing or some other sport where the focus is driving something...rate the course accordingly.

And the bottom-line is the course was darn near immaculate. Barely a divot on the green, the fairways were in top notch shape, the tee boxes were all pretty much flat and level. The course had some absolute GORGEOUS holes, it was incredibly challenging even from the white tees which we played at 6000ish yardage. The rough was thick and unforgiving, and if you can't past the rough, good luck finding your ball in the jungle. There were iguanas everywhere, it was just awesome.

I've also seen alot of complaints about the cart girl. And I don't get that either. She came around 4 or 5 times on both days we golfed, and on top of that had reasonable prices. 2 x beers for $5. I thought that was incredibly reasonable.

The practice area was great, big full grass driving range, or a covered mat area. Big practice green. Greenside sand bunker and chipping area, and even a fairway bunker you could hit out of. Balls were included for your tee time, but it was only $10 for a bucket of 80 balls which is totally reasonable. Were the some bad balls, yea. But they also had some brand new taylormade balls. I'd say It was about 50% newer balls, 25% slightly used balls, and maybe 25% crappy balls in my bucket. Totally fine for $10.

Immaculate

This course was in incredible condition. Fun track, beautiful, and amazing maintenance. This course is easily the second nicest course in all of the Cancun area, only behind Mayakoba, but for a 1/3 of the price.

Tough course

Very challenging course and great condition. However, as others mentioned earlier the only place you will not lose your ball is fairway. Staff is friendly. Terrible range balls and their carts have no brake.

Secret Costs and Terrible Equipment

This has been the most expensive golf experience ever for me - +$300.. Dont play this course unless you have your own clubs, balls, and tees. Tee time was $110 off of golfnow but $140 after fees. Add $60 for terrible rental clubs (dents, scratches, etc) and then add $6/ball for the cheapest Srixons. Pro V1s are $8/ball. Driving range balls were terrible and knuckling all over the range and then the golf cart they gave us didn't have brakes so we had to pick up a rock on the course to wedge under the tire.

Not sure how anyone would consider this a "PGA" course.

Excellent course to in the Playa Del Carmen area.

The course was in excellent playing condition. The greens where rolling true and average speed. It cost $160 to play or they’ll charge you $138 if you’re a resident of Bahia Principe Resort, but you can’t beat $117 thru militaryteetimes.com (golfnow subsidiary) for the area.

Bring balls.... of all kinds!

TOUGH course.... Don't miss left, don't miss right... Fairway is the only way to guarantee not losing your ball. Course is perfectly manicured, Tee Boxes are a beauty, & Greens are ice fast. Get there early and use the practice area, it's truly awesome!

Advise.... If the shot requires perfect ball strike, wind, and spin... Don't take it, it's not as easy as it looks... Challenging as heck!

Only downfall was some of the holes are laid out by the main road, so there is a lot of road noise for a few holes... but it's not unbearable.

The course was very challenging, the greens were great, the fairway grass a little thin in areas do to the age of the course. Good practice facilities.

PGA Riviera Maya - Great Hole Designs

I really enjoyed this round of golf. The course as quite challenging especially if you play from the black tee box the holes get quite long.

The only down side is that the greenfee is quite expensive. As a plus you get practice balls and also the cart included in the greenfee.

When I'm back in Mexiko this will be surely one of the first courses I will play again.

Par 3 at Riveria Maya

The par 3 was very beautiful. The natural centoes made for great looking holes and good hazards. It is a quick fun course of you are looking for something different to do in Akumal. The basic rentals are okay. I can’t wait to come back and play the full 18.
