Max A. Mandel Golf Course
About
Located just north of Laredo, the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course overlooks the Rio Grande River. Golfers can enjoy stunning views throughout the course but especially on the four holes that play directly on the waterfront. The par-72 layout sprawls across 270 acres of rugged south Texas landscape. The terrain is covered with 100-year-old mesquite trees and two vast arroyos, which were incorporated into the layout. There are also a variety of elevation changes across the landscape that can be challenging but the design manages to seamlessly blend dramatic features and playability. Crafted by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the golf course appeals to a range of skill levels from novices to frequent golfers. Risk-reward opportunities can be found throughout Mandel, giving both short and long hitters a variety of ways to play each hole.

Very good course
Fun course and in very good shape for January. Friendly staff, pro shop has some good buys. Best of all you can tee off to the south over the Rio Grande on #9 and tell your friends you hit a drive into another country!
Great Course/ Staff lacked personality
Took my son to play for the first time, we had a great time on the course we are pretty new to playing so for specifics on course I can’t comment that much, just that we had a great time perfect tee time not wait or anyone rushing us. Now as far as staff unfortunately the people working were not just there , not personality , seemed like it was a bother when we made contact. I don’t understand we all noticed it. Met a friend for lunch since we are from out of town, unfortunately looks like they were understaffed and we were told to place our order in advance since it was gonna be about an hour wait and it still took longer than that. again the whole time I just felt like it was a bother anytime we asked for anything no interaction at all.
Great Track, Loved it!
I played here a couple years ago but they were in the process of redoing the greens. So I was a little bummed out. But when my business took me back to the area, I was excited to get another chance at it and it was spectacular. The greens were in great shape and the layout is hard but not too hard. As always good shots reward you. The worst part is the drive out to the course. The Big Rig traffic is horrendous.
They were out carts when I arrived. The cart provided did not work properly from the onset. Limited power, no gps or course tracking and information. Was eventually brought a new one. The young male attendant seemed like he was in a bad mood or miserable. Very little interaction despite it being his job to help, like he was being bothered. Aside from that, everything else was good. They might want to clean out the water coolers. One had dirt inside and another mud around the spout. Like it was dropped and they didn’t bother cleaning it. Nice and cold though.
The course is getting better and better each time I go.
The course keeps improving daily and the entíre staff from top to bottom are on their P's and Q's.
