About
Located just north of Laredo, the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course overlooks the Rio Grande River. Golfers can enjoy stunning views throughout the course but especially on the four holes that play directly on the waterfront. The par-72 layout sprawls across 270 acres of rugged south Texas landscape. The terrain is covered with 100-year-old mesquite trees and two vast arroyos, which were incorporated into the layout. There are also a variety of elevation changes across the landscape that can be challenging but the design manages to seamlessly blend dramatic features and playability. Crafted by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the golf course appeals to a range of skill levels from novices to frequent golfers. Risk-reward opportunities can be found throughout Mandel, giving both short and long hitters a variety of ways to play each hole.

The course is getting better and better each time I go.
The course keeps improving daily and the entíre staff from top to bottom are on their P's and Q's.
Great Golf Course
Course is in excellent shape. Fairways are beautifully landscaped and greens are well maintained. Overall this course offers a great opportunity to have a fantastic round of golf.

Great round
The course was in really good shape for a cold day in January. The greens still need a little bit of work, but they are so much better than the last time I played. I enjoy playing this course whenever I get the chance. I highly recommend it.

Great Sunday
Course was in great condition. Fairways were in excellent shape. Greens were a little long but overall they were in good shape. Only one green was somewhat unplayable. Overall course was in the best shape it’s been in a while.
Nice layout by the Rio Grande!
Really nice layout, but new greens were underway to be ready October 2024. Just by Rio Grande, a challenging layout! Looking forward to new greens next time I come by!
Worth a road trip, if they work on the greens
This is an excellent course, nice mixture of wide open fairways and some tight, short holes with good topography and interesting, sloped and mounded greens and green complexes. The fairways were in great shape, the tee boxes were good, my only problem was the greens. They have really good potential, interesting shapes and sizes and slopes, but...they're almost neglected. I understand winter weeds (poa annua) are going to invade, but I think it means you keep the greens cut short and consistently to provide a more even surface. The greens could also use punching, sanding and rolling and love and care. Will check back later.
