Falconhead Golf Club sits just west of Austin in the midst of the scenic Hill Country, tumbling across a rolling landscape covered with knobby cedars and towering oaks. The challenging layout was designed to PGA standards, making it one of the most popular public golf courses in the area. The greens are fast and each is protected by at least one bunker. The golf course offers an interesting variety of holes that will require the use of every club in your bag. On windy days, the lengthy par 4s are especially tricky. Golfers will be faced with a variety of challenges on this course including dramatic uphill approaches, forced carries, blind shots, and doglegs. There are also meandering creeks that crisscross the course and a number of ponds that come into play. Falconhead Golf Club's signature hole is the beautiful par-3 17th, which will require your most accurate iron.

Goat trap

This place is not the place you want to go. Course is in bad shape. Massively out of date. Pro shop/bar area looks a cafeteria style from 1985. The course had maintenance going on all over. Not upgrading type of maintenance. Keep the lights on maintenance. We arrived at hole 12. They were literally mowing the fairway at 11am. And he didn't stop. The last five holes were punched and sanded. No one said a thing. We had to skip them. The sand and clumps of grass made it impossible to putt. No money off - nothing said. We arrived at hole 17. Marshall comes up to us and tells us we're two minutes, slow. We've been pacing two groups in front of us. They were slow. Some inexperienced golfers amongst them. No biggie. We tee'd off. We get to fairway and go to hit second shot and look up and the Marshall is walking across Green to scrounge balls in the bushes. This after being a accosted for slow play. The course was $100 to play. Not worth more than $36. Just let the goats and cows at it. Course is not well maintained. Go play "the star" In Hutto. It's in amazing shape!

What happened to Falconhead

Overpriced at $83 before tax, $27 for a large bucket of balls, bottled water expensive, no towels, no water in ball washers, greens in poor shape, many barren spots on course especially around cart paths and tee boxes. Need I saw more…

Goat trap golf

This course has issues. The course has people working all over it. You'd approach a hole and guys are mowing thr fairway. They don't move. You'll play second shot with them mowing. The greens were punched and sanded on last five holes. No one says a thing. Couldnt putt or play the greens. Pick your ball up and move on. It was $100 for a round. Way way over priced. Rental clubs are $100 bucks. And they're trash clubs. The putter was bent. The drivers were beat to heck. Go to star ranch. Only $82. This is a buyer beware issue. The best part was on hole 17 when the Marshall drove in front of us on fairway. Went up to the green and was looking for golf balls in surrounding area. Then said. I misunderstood the situation when confronted. Just stay away until new owners take over or buy a lot when it's closes

Just too expensive

Falconhead is just fine, it’s just always priced about 40% more than it should be. There are no other public courses within about 30 minutes, so they know they can charge what they want to.

Honestly, save your money and drive to Clay/Kizer

Need to enforce pace of play..

Played as a twosome with my son. Played the white tees to keep things moving. Group in front of us was a foursome with a small child (total of 5) playing multiple tee boxes. Wouldn't let us play through and course Marshall would not enforce the pace of play. Paid for 18 holes but only played 10 in 3 hours.

First time

The course was very nice. The practice facilities were top notch. Course is challenging with a solid layout. Long drive to get to the course. Bunkers needs some love but fairways and greens are in good condition.

First group out-forgot my ranger on the cart but 2 days later can’t find it?

First group out on a cart path only day. Got bitched out by maintenance for parking on the grass next to the path. Finished pretty quick for CPO: 3:40 and left my range finder on the only cart by the barn. Go to play 2 days later and see my finder isn’t in my bag. Call the Pro Shop and “nope, haven’t seen it”!?! Other than that an okay experience.

Nice Course but Extremely Slow

It was a great course to play and the conditions were good, but unfortunately the pace of play was extremely slow. There was no Marshall on the course to monitor the pace of play which was frustrating as there was an 8-some playing three groups ahead of us. We were over 5 hours by the time we got to the 18th hole which at that time it was too dark to finish. It’s too bad that this was my first experience to golfing in the Austin area.

STAY AWAY

I wouldn't take my dog here. Absolutely criminal to charge $175.00 to play here. I would not go back for free! Golfnow please remove this place from your offerings.

Good course, greens soft and fairways hard, but pace of play sucked

Liked the course layout and green topology, but not worth $145 for the round. Pace of play sucked, 5.5 hrs but no course Marshall doing anything. Better courses for $145

Overall good

Pace of play was good - a four hour round on a Wednesday. Course conditions were good. Greens are very large and almost excessively undulated, and the flags were placed in what seemed like a H.S. or college tournament locations; further, they seemed to roll too slow. Some bunkers had good sand, others had what seemed like partial or complete packed dirt. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape, although there were several “under repair” staked-off areas on some fairways. The pro shop staff stated that they had never seen a golfer be able to purchase a bucket of balls on the GolfNow site, and were reluctant to honor it; they asked if I had a receipt and honored it after I found it on the GolfNow site. Overall, a good experience.

Played a 2:24pm tee time. Pace of play on the front 9 was about 3 hours with foursomes stacked on top of each other. Difficult to justify paying a full weekend rate with the course playing that slowly.
