About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

muni golf...
I got a good price on a Hot Deal for a 10a weekend tee time. So, figured that I'd try Bayou for a second time hoping that the course would be a little better at this time of year. Not so much.
It's a municipal golf course. So, no real amenities to speak of, small clubhouse, small limited pro shop, very small restaurant / grill area.
The golf course was in pretty rough shape overall. The fairways had a lot of barren areas with no grass at all and where there was grass, there were plenty of weeds mixed in.
At this point in the year, especially with the weather we have had, there isn't really an excuse not to have decent greens. That being said, they were pretty bad. Not sure if they were just aerated at the wrong time, or not top dressed properly, but they have not come back. Very bumpy and uneven at best.
I'm not privy to the financial situation, but all of the issues are most likely budget related.
If you don't have another option, golfing here is better than not golfing. But, that's where I'd leave it.

Hot Time at the Bayou
Pleasantly surprised with my recent round at Bayou G.C. First time player and with the low green fee my expectations were lowered. The course was in suprisingly good condition. The layout was challenging especially for a first time player. It's probably best to play with a friend who knows the course as there are several hidden water hazards. The greens have been aerated and sanded and so they were very fast and of course, didn't roll true. Probably in another 3-4 weeks they will be in top shape. The staff were friendly and I found it fairly easy to locate the holes since I was new to the course. A good round overall.

lack of safety precautions during this COVID pandemic.
I typically don’t leave reviews, but I was very disappointed with the clubhouse check in guy and the lack of safety precautions during this COVID pandemic.
Even though the clubhouse had signs saying one person per cart due to the COVID pandemic, the course required you to share a cart even if you weren’t in the same house hold. I requested a separate cart and was charged an extra $15 on top of the $39 I paid to play.
I mentioned that I knew this wasn’t his rule and requested his boss’s information, so I could share my concern. He ignored my request after I asked three times and threatened to kick me off the course before mentioning I could call the city of Texas city or the Mayor about my concern.
Outside of this horrible experience with personnel, the course itself was a decent beginner course. I’d still recommend any other course in the state of Texas until they take a look at the people they employ or Covid is 100% gone.
Don’t risk your health or your loved one’s health.

Great value
The course is in pretty good shape. A few bare/dry areas around some fairways but it’s always been like that. The greens are in good shape and fast. We finished our round in under 4 hours and that was even after getting stuck behind a couple of walkers for the last four or five holes.

Ran out of carts
Visiting Galveston. Booked a tee time on Sunday for Wednesday, so I paid days in advance. Arrived at course to find out they were out of carts. Bummer. The pro was cool about it, but still, I reserved in advance. Not like I was a walk up. They should have held a cart for the reservation. Very disappointed.

Great value
First time out here! Bayou offers a very straight forward layout with a few twists to it and contoured greens. The price is very fair for what is offered at this course. Give this course a try!

Great time
We really like this course. Michael, the head pro, is an extremely nice person, very helpful and is a very good example of a professional. The snack bar has unbelievable sandwiches and most importantly the corse is in very good condition and is fun to play.

Good course under Covid-19 restrictions
Course in excellent conditions. Do not pick Wednesdays to play, as their seniors tournament is on Wednesday and due to Social distancing they don’t have enough carts. Otherwise good course.
