Bayou Golf Course
About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

catr patn only
Call before you go as this course does NOT drain at all. No rain for several days but course was still soaked to the point of not being playable. I quit after 9. Call first
Mud!!!!!
Don't play if it's rained in the last five days. Always muddy and I haven't even mentioned the tide. If it's dry and available on golf now, well worth the $15.
Neglected
This course has become progressively worse over the years. You either get hard pan cow pasture or a flooded gumbo swamp. Fairways are dead and unmowed and the greens are worse. Won't be back.
Good shape, fast pace & priced right.
Had a good time thanks to Golfnow. The course is in pretty good shape considering the weather we have had. The greens were lightning fast. Will be back.
Wading in water
The course was completely saturated. Was told there was 2 inches of rain 2 days earlier. Cart path only made for a longer day than anticipated.
Fun Course
Challenging with the wind, but it makes for a fun round.
Good shape and fast greens
I have been playing this course for years and the course was in good shape, and the greens were the fastest I have ever seen for this course. We played early in the morning and had to fight the fog for the first couple of holes. Overall it was great round.
Nice golf course.
Bayou Golf Course is in great condition. The greens are fantastic. A great value.
Freaky fast
Course and weather conditions were perfect. However, the greens were super fast. Prior to tee off the staff informed us, the greens measured 14 on the stimpmeter and that was an understatement.
Nice course
Open layout with not a lot of trees lining fairways. There's a ton of water though. Better be accurate or you're losing a couple balls. Staff was very friendly, even let me start with a group of guys an hour early. I'd definitely play it again.
Not worth the drive from Houston.
The 5 star reviews fooled me on this one. This is not a lower cost Moody gardens. I would consider this an average golf course. Greens are like concrete, so targeting pins is out. Some poor drainage spots on the course leave mud pits in random locations. Random crab grass and ant hills in the fairways. The pace is slowest I have ever seen. Better bring GPS or a range finder, no yardage markers on the tee boxes. The employees are off putting and seem disgruntled. Don't forget the bug spray lots of mosquitoes. On a positive note the price is right with a hot deal, I would play this course again if I lived closer, but it is not worth the hour drive.
Did Not meet the course review ratings as posted
This course was not as the good as the rating that is posted for this particular course it was a Cow Pasture for the most part
Picked wrong day
Started 1/2 hour behind men's group, shame on me. I quit after 9 holes because of slow play since I played as a single. I do not fault the players but I should have asked the Pro Shop to start on back 9 or maybe he could have offered. Anyway, enough of that. Nice folk there and I really liked the challenge of the track. I will attempt to play again when back in the area.
