Bayou Golf Course
About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Good but not great
This course isn't a bad deal. Any round over $25 for this course isn't worth. It. I am giving this course the benefit of the doubt due to Harvey. A nice spring and summer should help this course! Some of the greens are in rough shape in addition to some of the fairways. I hit a 130 y 8I on the second hole that should've kicked near the hole but instead bounced 1 foot from where it landed on the green due to a mud creating a very soft spot on the green. The pace of play was great. We finished an afternoon round on a Saturday in 4 hours.
Don't play here
The greens have been destroyed. Good grass dead. Humps of grass on green make it impossible to putt.
Ok course
Course was ok but in poor condition. Some challenges but greens were terrible. Ball hopping around made putt tuff
Horrendous Greens
if I wanted to play on the beach I would of stayed in Galveston.. Greens were atrocious.. Water and mud all up and down fairways, well I wouldn't call them fair.. What happened to the maintenance of this course? Even with hot deal prices, this round was still not worth the money..
Greens are awful.
It had rained so the course was wet which no one can control. But one thing they do have control over is the greens. The greens were absolutely horrible. Looked like they tried to aerate them, but it didnt work out. Was like putting on concrete and sand with hundreds of small green patches all over the greens. Definitely dont recommend playing this course anytime soon.
Unplayable Greens
Course should be closed.
If it were free, it would have been overpriced.
Greens unputtable.
What made this course relevent at all were the greens, now that they are lost, youve lost everything.
Lots to not like today
We found out when we go there the greens had been plugged and sanded. The course was not on good shape for this part of the year, no grass anywhere hardly. They had sprigs of something growing in the greens which made putting even worse than the sand.
Not worth it
This is the worst course 2nd only to Beacon Lakes. The greens were so bad with sand and poana clumps. Hard to find a flat spot on the fairways that even had grass. To top it off “ there is not any range balls in the machine because the people that fill up the machine are eating breakfast”. Don’t waste your time at any price.
Bayou
Course was good as usual, love the lay out and not overall the hardest course which is great when I want to get away and relax. Fairways are solid, greens played moderate (which is good) and bunkers were overall better than usual. Great course and great for such a low price
Wet rainy day
Nice course but cold and misty rain. Otherwise nice course.
Course need some work
The course reviews didn’t come close to how bad of shape this course is in. This is almost a goat ranch but I’ve seen a little worse. They’ve really let this course go down. I don’t know if it was because of Hurricane Harvey that’s made it challenging but it’s in bad shape. Plenty of fairways that are messed up and areas that are unplayable because eithe no grass or too muddy all the time. Either way this is not a 3 or 4 star facility. I give it a 1 1/2.
Terrible condition.
Greens are in terrible shape. They have mini trees growing out of them, not sure why but seems they’re only cutting them every couple days. Way too bumpy and the overall condition of the course is just bad. Worst course I’ve ever played on.
Great getaway for the price. ...
Good pace of play.pro shop friendly. Fairways has a few spots that look like rotten by water. Other than that pretty good.
Best bang for your buck.
I had an exceptional experience playing this course. My tee time was at 1030 and I was running a few minutes late. The course operator was very friendly and allowed me to tee off as soon as I was ready. Even though there was a tournament that had started before me there was no slow down at all in play time. The course was in really good shape despite the bad weather we’ve had recently. Even though I still consider myself a novice, the course isn’t overly difficult but is still challenging enough and enjoyable at every bend. I would highly recommend this course to all.
Rain issues
Friendly staff said had rain issues from earlier in week so cart paths only. Also very brown and greens had weeds from failure to spray/treat last fall. Really too early to play in Texas this time of year. Played in San Antonio and same early season issues but not rain.
catr patn only
Call before you go as this course does NOT drain at all. No rain for several days but course was still soaked to the point of not being playable. I quit after 9. Call first
Mud!!!!!
Don't play if it's rained in the last five days. Always muddy and I haven't even mentioned the tide. If it's dry and available on golf now, well worth the $15.
