Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

High tide water
If they could solve the high tide problem, it would be awesome
Great Time at Bayou in Texas City
Have played Bayou a number of times over the years and always enjoyed it. Have to commend the staff on the course conditions after this very hot, dry summer, especially the greens.
Not exactly rustic and less than posh, it has everything a golfer (and even their wife) needs. Very conducive to tournaments of any size or quality level. Good maintenance and my experience has been good marshalling when needed.
Fair course
First fairways are suffering from recent puddles or flooding with areas of no grass. Greens are good with average speed.
Front 9 closed
High tide came in and front 9 was closed. This caused just over a 5 hr round. Notice before booking would be appreciated.
Back 9 greens were in good shape.
Getting better
There was a time after the freeze where alot of dead trees needed to come down and excess bushes around water ponds.
Happy to say front 9 is much better. All greens are rolling good. Back 9 needs trees trimmed on 12 and 15 and grass mowed a little more . Growing from all the past rain.
For the price. Would recommend for the everyday golfer . Hard to beat the deals.
