Player at Lyman Orchards Golf Club
About
Lyman Orchards is a popular Connecticut destination most known for the nearly 100 varieties of pick-your-own fruit but it also offers two championship 18-hole golf courses and a nine-hole course. One of the longer courses was designed by Gary Player and the other by Robert Trent Jones. Lyman Orchards' Player Course is a seemingly mild 6,600 yards from the tips but don't let the yardage fool you, this layout is a tough but fair test. There are over 30 bunkers strategically placed along the small greens and deciduous trees and beautiful white pines line the fairways. Routed through the orchards across gently rolling hills, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The terrain provides the course with plenty of ups and downs, as well as great views, especially on the 11th and 13th holes.

Three may not be a hard hole when you keep the ball in play, but otherwise it is unsympathetic to missed shots. It’s the #3 index here. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/23/2025

Front 9 hol so bad Condition
Tee box so bad... I can't put in my tee.
And fairway so bad front 9 hols.
Back 9 hols not bad...
Thank you for playing and thank you for your review. Hope to see you back again soon!
Great design, poor maintenance.
Enjoyed the round. Course is very well designed and very playable, being not particularly long. Played the blues and it played considerably shorter than the scorecard yardage.
Fun to play.
Maintenance.... 14 of the holes didn't have tee markers set up - just laying on the side of the tee, so we just teed up adjacent to them. New holes were cut ahead of us, but the guy doing it did a rough job. Most of them were not straight, but leaning, some of them considerably so - and lots of the edges were gouged. I'd get rid of that dude.
The tee boxes were in atrocious condition. Very little grass, and so concrete hard that it was very difficult getting a tee into the ground. Was a running joke throughout the round about needing a power drill to pre-drill a hole for the tee.. Fairways were very poor. Greens were in good shape, despite the dozens of ball marks that folks can't be bothered to fix.
Overall - I'd definitely play there again. So much potential. Just needs more TLC to be a great track.
Thank you for playing and thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed the layout. The course has been under water restriction for several weeks due to a lack of water and thus is very dry. Thankfully we received some much needed rain recently and things should bounce back quickly. Other comments have been noted and will be addressed. Thank you again and have a great day!
Target golf
Stick to the landing zones. Lots of way to get in trouble and lose balls. Several tee boxes require accuracy over Ravines to hit narrow fairways. Tees not in as good of shape as the jones course.
Thank you for playing and thank you for the review. The dry conditions certainly bring more trouble into play. We finally got some rain these last few days and hopefully the tee boxes will bounce back quickly!
Uneven conditions
Played on Wednesday and the day was windy. The greens were in very good condition, but the tee boxes were al dried out and hardpan. The fairways were spotty with dry spots and a lot of roll.
Thank you for playing and thank you for the review. Thankfully we have received valuable rain in the last few days so in another week or so, the golf course should be much more green. Thank you again and we hope to see you back soon.
Not what I expected
Tees had very little grass, and the rest of the course looked like it hasn’t had any water for a long time. Could not get a tee in the ground, so hard
Thank you for playing and thank you for your review. We have been under water restriction for a significant period of time. Thankfully we received enough rain to recharge the ponds are hopefully within a week or two the course will begin greening back up. Thank you again and we hope to see you back soon.
People were nice, son enjoyed his burger on the 10th. The fairways were burnt, but the Greens were really nice. Charts were top of the line with GPS. It's pricey and theres been no rain. It is what it is.
Oh, don't be the random politics guy please. Played with two randoms, one of whom kept trying to pry politics out of the rest of us. That was a drag. Don't be that guy. Talk sports.
The tee boxes are pretty beat up and the fairways are pretty dry. The greens were great, the layout is nice(more power to you if you walk jt, I'm not) the off course stuff was great, the food good, service great, carts were high tech.
Played with two nice guys and one who wanted to talk politics. He was dying to and feeling the rest of us out the entire time. None of us took the bait thank God. Hey folks, how about we all agree to keep the politics out of the random foursome conversation? I dont feel like like listening to it for four hours. Talk sports, music, dogs for Pete's sake. Some dudes just making fools of themselves .
Otherwise nice round.
Thank you for playing and thank you for your review. We definitely could use some rain to help with the dry conditions. We hope to see you back again soon.
Love the design of this course!
I loved it. It’s a super interesting and unique layout, especially for this area. It’s nice to play a course where you are not hitting the driver from every par 4 or 5 tee box. It was a wicked hot mid August day, so it was pretty dry and hard out there. But, considering the conditions, I thought the course was in excellent shape.
Double edge sword
6am tee time is good for playing fast and getting on with the day...first 5 holes I waited in fairway for the greens to be cut. Holes were obviously the same cups from the day before. Playing early before the course is properly prepared isn’t worth the discounted price.
First and last time.
Thank you for playing and thank you for your feedback. With the sun coming up later and later, it's difficult to get the course ready in time for the first tee time. We appreciate your feedback and are working on improving your future rounds at Lyman Orchards. Thank you.
Same Old, Same Old...
Yet another slow round at Lyman. For whatever reason, the Starter thought it was a great idea to send a "Sixsome" in front of the "Fivesome" he sent out in front of us. So our Foursome was behind two groups consisting of eleven golfers?!?! When we asked the Starter why he was letting five people out in front of us, he stated "they are all friends and wanted to play together." Not good course management.
Thank you for playing and thank you for your review. We apologize that your round was so slow and that a fivesome was in front of you. We clearly should not have allowed them to play as five. Thank you for your feedback.
Good value!
Good value round! The new GPS carts are nice, but can get a little annoying with all the alerts, and not well marked “Do Not Drive” areas (the cart shuts off) Greens were in great shape, but course was really burnt out from the lack of rain. I’d definitely play again though. Nice staff and good course otherwise
Thank you for playing and thank you for the review! Hopefully we get some rain soon to bring back some green. Hope to see you back soon.
Lots of blind drives
first time playing this course and had a great time. Fairways and greens are in very good condition. Lots of blind tee shots if you have never played here before . that grounds crew were watering greens as we played so it was a bit difficult to judge the pace of the greens as it seemed to change a lot. Very nice golf carts GPS on them. Only saw the card girl on number 17 and it took just under four hours to play 18. Would recommend this course to anyone in the area. Would not recommend walking this course as there is distance between tees and green
Thank you for the 5 star review!! Hope to see you back soon.
Thank you for the 5 Star review! Hope to see you back soon.
Worth the money
Played here on the way home from Foxwoods. Great course. Greens were in perfect shape. The T boxes were a little beat up, but nothing too bad.
A true golf course (Players)
Pick you shots carefully, smaller winding fairways. Very good condition. Beverage cart on point.
