Player at Lyman Orchards Golf Club
About
Lyman Orchards is a popular Connecticut destination most known for the nearly 100 varieties of pick-your-own fruit but it also offers two championship 18-hole golf courses and a nine-hole course. One of the longer courses was designed by Gary Player and the other by Robert Trent Jones. Lyman Orchards' Player Course is a seemingly mild 6,600 yards from the tips but don't let the yardage fool you, this layout is a tough but fair test. There are over 30 bunkers strategically placed along the small greens and deciduous trees and beautiful white pines line the fairways. Routed through the orchards across gently rolling hills, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The terrain provides the course with plenty of ups and downs, as well as great views, especially on the 11th and 13th holes.

Three may not be a hard hole when you keep the ball in play, but otherwise it is unsympathetic to missed shots. It’s the #3 index here. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/23/2025

Great day at Lyman's of the Player course.
Great day, no waiting the play was smooth and conditions were good!
Thank you for playing and thank you for the review! Hope to see you back soon.
Thank you for playing and thank you for your reviews. Hope to see you back again soon!
Wow
-PROS
- Tough course layout with lots of blind shots.
- Not for the faint of heart (literally) when walking which I did with a stand bag.
- Plenty of shot shaping opportunity.
- Strategic play required.
- Soooooo much bang for the buck.
-CONS ( mostly nit picky but not enough to deter me)
- Green speed is rather inconsistent.
- Lots of ant mounds on numerous greens.
- Strangely there was a group of two that jumped in front of us since they went to get food. (Not a big deal but maybe something to think about)
Overall I would definitely go back knowing the course now. Excellent value and with that understandably comes longer rounds.
Thank you for playing and thank you for the review! We apologize that the two-some jumped in front of you, we will be able to work on that. We'd love to see you back soon!
COVID break
Needed a Break from COVID chaos , booked a 4-some 2 weeks ago and well worth it. Great conditions, great pace , and great drinks after. We’ll be back.
Awesome
Got out early on the Players course. Played 18 in 3 hours 30 minutes. Check-in was easy. No delays. No issues with slow play. All aspects of the course were impeccable. One trap under repair on #14. No biggie & inconsequential by location. Highly recommend. Enjoy!
Thank for playing and thank you for the review! Glad you had a great experience. The trap on 14 was unfortunate but we will be repairing in the coming weeks. Hope to see you back soon!
nice
got rained out. course was nice enough to give us rain checks
Thank you for coming out to play and thank you for the 5 star review! We apologize that you got rained out but hopefully you will get back soon, the course is in great shape!
Fun experience
Terrific greens... Very different than the average course. Quirky fun layout.
Friendly, helpful staff
Thank you for playing and thank you for your review! Hope to see you back again soon.
Thank you for playing and thank you for the review! We are happy you had a good time and we hope to see you back soon.
Good Course / Slow Play
Lyman never seems able or up to enforcing slow play. Nice golf courses, but even with a not so full parking lot, on a weekday, slow play yet again.
It has become "unplayable" on the weekends. We had a six, yes six, hour round recently. If you are going to charge top dollar rack rates, speed up the pace of play.
One guy from our group wrote to the course regarding the pace of play, but no one responded. Guess they don't care?
I totally disagree with the pace of play comment. I am a twilight member which means I cannot tee off until after 12 any day of the week. Even on a busy weekend day the most time it took me to play 18 holes was 4 hrs and 20 minutes. During the week nothing over 3 hrs and 45 minutes and most of the time much quicker.
Hello, thank you for playing and for taking the time to review the course. We apologize about the slow play, I would love to find out more information about the day and time so we can look into what happened. We'll also go back and look for a comment we missed from your playing partner as pace of play is very important to us and the main reason we added GPS to our golf carts. Feel free to reach out to the course as we would love to change your experience of Lyman Orchards. Thank you,
Excellent shape.
First time playing and I loved it. The course is in excellent shape. Excellent layout, green fairways, fast greens.
Need a little enforcement replacing divots on the green. Overral I had a lot of fun. Early tee time enabled me to play 18 holes in a little over than 4 hrs. Not bad.
Love the course target golf is wonderful
Love the course target golf is wonderfulAbsolutely the only complaint I could possibly have would be that the tea boxes we’re extremely overused quite possibly a rotation would help
Thank you for coming out to play and for the feedback. We will work hard to improve those tee boxes. Hope to see you back soon!
Thank you for coming out to play and thank you for your review. The 10 day forecast looks great so we hope to see you back soon!
What was Gary Player thinking?
It was my first time. Wow, what a weird layout. Just too many blind shots for me. There are breathtaking views, however.
Thank you for coming out to play and thank you for your review. We would love for you to come back and try the Jones Course as it offers a very different design concept. Hope to see you back soon.
Some of the tea boxes need fixing but overall great place greens are beautiful people don’t take care of the Divet’s
Thank you for coming out to play and thank you for your review. Hope to see you back soon!
