Don’t play here
We thought “Private Access” meant worth the money as it should. Unfortunately, we were dead wrong. It’s as if the GolfNow booking access for $99/Rnd is only to promote the image of VIP access for a high price with hope someone would want to join their membership. Well let me save you the $99. This course is atrocious. From the start of not knowing which way to turn into the entrance. You don’t know if it’s a one way or not. Then complete absence of a direction to travel. Basically grabbed and cart and went to the box undirected. Speaking of tee boxes, you are lucky if you can find a patch of crabgrass to tee up on. It seems they have no money left to maintenance the place after investing all their money in auto-mowers that look useless due to the amount of ball cracks on the solar panels used to charge them. For $99 you get greens that show the rider forgot to pick up the blade before scratching the entire surface creating indented paths across the area making your ball feel like it’s going down a bowling alley with bumpers down the gully no matter what direction you intended to go. The pace of play is non-existent and the view of outdated discolored homes most likely with outrageous HOA fees makes you feel like your round can only get worse.
Please save your money. Go anywhere but here.
Course is in poor condition and needs some TLC
I was very disappointed with my round at Blackhawk. The tee boxes were in horrendous condition—uneven, chewed up, and clearly neglected. The fairways were just as bad, littered with unfixed divots and patches of dead grass that made it feel more like playing on a practice field than a private course. Overall, the facility looks like it hasn’t had meaningful investment in years, and it really shows.
For a club trying to attract and keep members, the lack of course upkeep is shocking. Out of all the courses I’ve played this season, Blackhawk is unfortunately the worst. Unless major improvements are made, I can’t see myself coming back anytime soon
blackhawk
the greens were in great shape. other than that, the condition of the course was ROUGH. teeboxes covered in weeds, fairways a collection of grass and weeds (it was well mowed) and the rough was a joke. a couple of times, I was a few feet off the fairway or just off the green in a completely unkempt area. we made a group rule that you could improve your lies because the condition was so random. totally misleading to sell this as a "country club" average muni at best.
Waning
I've been taking up the "member for a day" deals on Blackhawk frequently this summer, trying to decide if a membership is in the future. As the summer has moved on, I've been disappointed in seeing the conditions of the course decline. Thick, poorly mowed crabgrass covered tee boxes. Large brown dry patches on boxes as well. Fairways are showing less attention as well. Dry spots abound. Fortunately the greens are still in good shape.
The course could also use a proper starter. I showed up for my tee time, which was supposed to have four golfers, and no one else showed. I was unsure of whether to go ahead and wait. I played, only to see a threesome behind me after awhile. So I drove back to join up, and they clearly didn't want a fourth. So I ended sandwiched between the foursome in front of my, and the bozos behind. I waited on every hole. And the turn! What a unorganized mess.
Weird uneven conditions.
This solar powered mowers are garbage. Not a professional style conditioned course. Private course too wow
Robo cutters are no good
These robo cutters are meant for fairways not greens. Horrible layout and with greens that roll anywhere but true. Avoid
Great
Really enjoyable course. Would definitely consider a membership if I was under 40.
Greens are a must read all around
I truly enjoyed my round. The golf carts are very comfortable, fast, and feature rich. The course is in very good shape for all the rain we've had. The greens on the front 9 took my breath away ...but by back nine I figured them out or they are easier (10 putts).
Funny: There is sign in the pro shop as you approach it said : hole position for the day, #1. I asked the very attractive cashier what did the sign mean. Neither of knew. After looking at the score card I realized it was the flag positions for the day. I learned one thing and confirmed another.
I plan on going back and playing the front nine greens.
Go you will enjoy it.
Blind man's bluff
This is my third outing at Blackhawk on their "member for a day" special. Some members get a little cranky at us interlopers. Take it up with your club and not out on us. It's a varied course with fast, undulating greens. The fairways are in good shape. The rough (maybe because of recent rain?) was an unforgiving 5" thick. Some newbies I was paired up with groused about the number of blind shots you face. I hadn't thought too much about it, but they're right. Several holes, you don't see the green until your approach. It doesn't bother me so much. I like the track enough to be considering membership.
Not what I expected for a "Private" course
My opinion and review take into account the time of year I played the course. I Paid $99 for a Hot Deal via golfnow. I called the course to ensure there were no recent maintenance like aerated or sanded greens. I thought it was going to be a premium experience since it is supposedly a private course, but at best it's a decent Muni. 5-star for the course layout. It was nice and challenging. The conditions on the other hand were subpar. They are using automated Husqvarna lawn mowers, witch look to have a 24" cutting width and produces uneven grass on fairways and rough versus what is produced by wide more decks. The rough was inconsistent and spotty. The aprons had lots of crab grass. Lastly the facilities are run down and after looking at the kitchen decided to go eat at a different course's clubhouse.
