Blackhawk Country Club

This is my third outing at Blackhawk on their "member for a day" special. Some members get a little cranky at us interlopers. Take it up with your club and not out on us. It's a varied course with fast, undulating greens. The fairways are in good shape. The rough (maybe because of recent rain?) was an unforgiving 5" thick. Some newbies I was paired up with groused about the number of blind shots you face. I hadn't thought too much about it, but they're right. Several holes, you don't see the green until your approach. It doesn't bother me so much. I like the track enough to be considering membership.

My opinion and review take into account the time of year I played the course. I Paid $99 for a Hot Deal via golfnow. I called the course to ensure there were no recent maintenance like aerated or sanded greens. I thought it was going to be a premium experience since it is supposedly a private course, but at best it's a decent Muni. 5-star for the course layout. It was nice and challenging. The conditions on the other hand were subpar. They are using automated Husqvarna lawn mowers, witch look to have a 24" cutting width and produces uneven grass on fairways and rough versus what is produced by wide more decks. The rough was inconsistent and spotty. The aprons had lots of crab grass. Lastly the facilities are run down and after looking at the kitchen decided to go eat at a different course's clubhouse.

First time here. Very relaxed atmosphere. I was hitting fairways and hitting greens. But pin placements was a punishment worse than the US Open this weekend. Will play again to see new pin placements.
