Tee times are too close and course is in horrible condition. Nobody fixes pitch marks or divots, fairways are dirt, bunkers filled with rocks. People will pick up your ball without hesitation.
Ed Oliver GC Has Gone Downhill
Let me preface this review in that I've played Ed Oliver GC many times, most recently last August.
The golf course itself has great "bones" and is challenging. But wow, what a difference a year makes!!
I've played many public golf courses in the area that are in great shape, even with the heat we've been having. Ed Oliver was certainly not that.
We had to move balls out of the bunkers, as they were unplayable. The fairways were all burnt out.. The greens were adequate.
Also, on a day where the RealFeel temperature was 111, there were no water coolers or anyone driving around with water.
It was a bargain at the price, but you can tell they're having financial problems. I'd be very surprised if this place is still open next year.
Nice course
Course was in decent condition for a public track. I'd play there again!
Bland.
Played on a hot day in July. Got a good deal for 33 with cart for a 8:00 tee time. Course was fairly empty. Played solo 18 in 2:45 while playing multiple balls.
Of New Castle County's courses, it is probably the most narrow (at least at points)
Day started off poorly with several bunkers having water up to their edges (no rain in 4 days at the time) and several cart paths completed washed out.
Tee boxes need some TLC, greens in good shape, but fairways had their spots.
There are narrow timeslots, which may contribute to the wear, but for 32.00 it was a good deal. Ordinarily, it is 54, which is about as much as I'd be willing to pay for it.
Lot of water (beyond the water hazard/traps).
Located in downtown Wilmington and fairly easy to get to from 95.
Needs a marshalll. 3 groups in front were slow, slower, and slow. Waited on every box starting from 4. Gave up at 10 and went to the bar.
First Time at Oliver
Took a ride down 95 from Philly to check out this course. Friendly guy at the pro shop checked me in. Was able to hit some warm up balls on their small grass range. The course is in ok condition with the notable exception of every single bunker. Without exception the bunkers are atrocious and cannot be played out of. Greens are pretty nice. There are a lot of stray shots so keep your head on a swivel
Course is Improving
I’ve played here a bunch over the years, but last few years I’ve visited once/twice a year. I will say, the course conditions have improved quite a bit, kudos to the grounds crew. Greens are in great shape, fairways are good. Tee boxes are a bit hit or miss, the back tees are certainly better than the whites. We got rain the day and night prior, bunkers were rock hard, definitely try to avoid those. Course was better than expected, a great value for the area.
