Looking better
Greens where excellent, the ball rolled well and they are quicker then in past seasons. Fairways some spots in the fairways are still growing in and there was some signs of the drought in a few places but in better condition then I have ever seen the course in August.
The course was redesigned and is still growing in. They did an excellent job of maintaining the feel of the original design while correcting issues and increasing the enjoyment factor. Should be four stars by spring.
Ed Oliver's
Played on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. Place wasn't crowded. Second time this month my wife and I have played here. Pace of play was great. We both had a chance to work on our short game. Its still a work in progress. Greens are good shape.
Thanks for playing! We look forward to having you back soon and we hope that short game is improving!
Face Lift almost complete
What where you doing 100 years ago ? same thing as me most likely. This is a nice golf course tightly woven into the edge of Wilmington Delaware. Its a short track with tee boxes in some places side by side, tree lined fairways alittle bit of water here and there and a few homes skirting the edges of 3 /7/ 8 /16/17 and 18. I kind of lost my way after the 2nd hole and teed off on the # 12 tee box to the 3rd hole along the road it was a really nice drive until a gentleman told me " your tee box is behind # 2 green down along the road " LOL ok Thanks is that a stroke I should write down ? Anyway I played up to #4 that's where I really got spun around its a temporary green circled with blue paint before the roped off area AS I was told upon arrival. 1st time here. Yes the fairways are not in great shape But you can hit from them, The tee boxes are beat up but they are clearly marked for you ( red / Green / White )
The ground is hard as concrete and it's grassless in some places.( similar to the top of my head ) The bunkers have really good white sand in them I was there a few times and the greens are very receptive and in good putting shape. For a course that's 100 years old and going through a much needed facelift I think by the time all the bandages are all off it will be a really great in town place to Golf.
I didn't have time to play the 19th but maybe next time.
Thanks for playing and we appreciate your patience while we finish up the renovations. We hope to see you again soon!
Delaware Stop
Although a gave average ratings, there were a lot work going on around the course, new tee boxes being put in, a new green was built but not open, bunkers were in bad shape, needed a lot of work. A few more years of improvements and further upgrades, then it will be probably a a good course, but right know a wouldn't recommend it to my friends.
Porkys
Love porkys, been playing there for years. The updates and things they are doing to the course look great and should be a nice change once completed. Still alil rough right now with a few minor temporary boxes and greens.
Course is coming along well.....
This was my first time back since all of the renovations started in the Fall/Winter of 2015 and I must say they are making a lot of progress! Seeing the sprinkler system come on was great, the bunkers have nice soft white sand now, the brush area behind hole 9 was removed just dirt now but was told it will be flowers and shrubs, a lot of trees were removed from hole 18 which makes it look really nice. The greens and fairways were in nice shape. They are installing new cart paths. Once the construction is complete it would be a 5 star course. There was one temporary green.
This will be a nice course someday
People were nice when we arrived but the course had a lot of construction going on. Yes, they are trying to improve thing and it will be a good looking course when its all done. But the price was not worth it with a couple of temp tees and holes. Should of been informed before booking. The back nine took forever to play with three members dilly dallying on every shot. Four holes were empty in front of them and they would not let us go through. No Rangers that we saw. Nice member etiquette. I think i wait till next year and hope they are done. Should be good by then.
Playing at Ed Oliver's Course
The staff greeted me and my son with a smile. They were very helpful and informative. The course is undergoing renovation for irrigation updates we were told. It made a difference on 3 of the 9 holes we played. A short par 3 became a LONG par 3. Otherwise not much of an inconvenience. Overall a good day.
Thank you for playing our course! Our renovations are very near completion so be sure to check us out again soon!
disapointed
The course is in bad shape. The fairways are horriable. The cart paths are unrideable. The tee boxes are bare ground. The greens are good. The weeds are growing all around the areas close to the fairways and other parts of the course. The one thing we appricated was that a person in our party just had a back operation and the staff allowed him to ride with the group , without charge.
We're sorry you didn't enjoy our course conditions, but good news: we're making it better! A brand new irrigation system is currently being installed, bunker renovations have just begun, and new cart paths are coming this offseason as well! Keep up with all the improvements along the way by visiting our blog at http://www.edolivergolfclub.com/keep-up-with-ed-oliver
Excellent Staff
The very friendly pro shop and restaurant staff helped to make my experience a bit better. Course was not in very good shape overall, with very rough fairways and dry, grassless conditions. Riding a cart on the extremely bumpy and barren course was very uncomfortable. Raw beginners on course with no marshal a problem, as I was almost hit twice with stray shots from people who should never be allowed on a course.
Thanks for playing our course and thank you for the compliments on our service staff!
We're sorry you did not see a marshall on the course as our staff typically works to make sure we can provide a fun and enjoyable golf experience for players of all abilities.
We're also sorry you didn't enjoy our course conditions, but good news: we're making it better! A brand new irrigation system is set to go into the ground in the next few weeks with bunkers and cart paths to follow. Keep up with all the improvements along the way by visiting our blog at http://www.edolivergolfclub.com/keep-up-with-ed-oliver
Solid course for a great price
The title says it all. You can nit pick all you want, but for the price (especially the killer twilight deals) you just can't beat it.
Thanks for playing! Keep checking us out here for more great deals or text PORKY to 24578 for other exclusive offers!
Great value for the money
Greens were in great shape, the fairways were in decent shape. I started out as a single but the group in front of me invited me to join their threesome. They were great company, all said they were members who played this course several times a week. Had a great time.
We're glad you had a good time and got to meet some of our regulars. We're looking forward to your next visit!
This course was in good shape.
Good golf course for intermediate golfers as myself. Course was in good shape even with the lack of rain and the staff were helpful and friendly. Definitely would return.
Thank you for your feedback! Be sure to come check us out again soon.
Course has come a long way.....
I played this course about 7-8 years ago before it was bought out by Billy Casper Golf and the course was in need of a lot of repairs. I was hesitant on playing today but was very surprised how the course has been improved. A lot of work has been done, fairways were nice, had nice first and second cuts of rough. Sand traps were a little dry but not dirt like the first time. Tee boxes were in nice shape, all have grass and no dry dead spots. Greens were nice and challenging.
Overall I was impressed and will play again.
Welcome Back!
We appreciate your positive feedback. Keep coming back to check up on our progress as we continue to work to improve.
ed oliver delaware
Greens were in great shape, sand traps no sand dirt.
Pace af play was slow, lot of golfers on the course
Decided to quit after 9 holes.
Very tight course with paralell fairways.
Nice course and reasonably priced.
Thanks for playing us! Hopefully you've had the chance to come back and play the other 9 and see our progress since October.
Ed Oliver - great value
The course was in the best shape I've seen in years, especially the greens. They were in terrific shape.
"Porky's" has subtle difficulty. The management seems to be working on improving the conditions, which has a lot of work to be done. Still, I enjoy playing here, and with a golfnow hot deal of $18, I couldn't pass it up. I look forward to playing there again.
Thanks for playing our course! Hopefully you've had the opportunity to play again.
Not bad, not great
This course has had its ups and downs, and the conditions certainly reflect that. Greens in decent shape; fairways and tee boxes not so much. Excellent restaurant onsite for post round meals! Overall a good experience can be found here with nice views of Wilmington.
Great Pro in the Shop!
We had an excellent first visit to the Ed Oliver Course. It's an old course but well kept and perhaps the nicest staff (especially Dennis in the Pro Shop) that we've experienced. Thank you!
Thanks for your visit and for your great compliments. Come back and see Dennis soon!
Good value
This course was a very nice course. Greens were in great shape. The fairways were in ok shape. Staff is helpful and nice. Played a round in a twosome in just over 3 hours
