Bad time management.
They can't seem to get everyone off of the front 9. The last 3 times I've been there, I've had a slow 4some put in front of me on the 10th. Not what you expect after getting the first tee time.
Fairways are horrible, but greens were ok.
Shop staff doesn't pay attention
Not only was there no one in the shop when I arrived, when we made the turn, a random foursome was teeing off #10 out of nowhere. As a group of two having to play directly behind them on an already packed course, we were a bit confused. This group also went out in 3 carts...clearly the shop staff doesn't care what is going on. Glad I got a discounted rate, but still feel like I paid too much. Course conditions were definitely not worth the regular rates...fairways are gone and the greens are not consistent.
Course management company is working hard to improve the course.
Porky Oliver is a nice course for walking and for working on your game.
Fairways are gone
I've played this course a few times and the guys I was playing with have played it for years. The fairways were the worst they have ever seen them. I don't know what happened from earlier in the year till now, but there is little to no reward for hitting the fairway. Greens were in good shape, bunkers were OK.
this is my home course
Some fairways are a little burned out on some holes. Greens are maintained well, staff are helpful, bar and other amenities are great. Overall, a solid course for your buck!
Fairways needed help.
Greens are nice, staff is super friendly, book with course layout is the nicest i havve seen.
The Fairways are a disgrace
The fairways at this course are a disgrace and need to be renovated. Pace of play is also extremely slow. I would much rather spend the extra $15-$20 to play somewhere else in the future and do not plan on EVER playing here again until the fairways actually have grass!!
If anyone on here works for Ed Oliver's and reads this, I'm sorry you should be embarrassed because a golfer should be rewarded after a good tee shot by shooting on well maintained, short grass, not on dirt and divots which just makes the ball shoot up in the air.
Do not waste your time and money here.
Slow greens and pace of play.
For the money course was in good shape. greens were grown out and recently aerated. should get better in the fall. Pace of play was too slow. There was one small group. I liked the layout and the challenge.
OK course. But not reccommended
It had just rained so review might not be perfect, but upon getting there we were helped greatly by the staff working there. But from there on it got a lot worse. First, the front nine was walking only which isn't too much of a problem but it did seem nicer than the back nine. Would have been nice if they built a better cart path around there so as to not have to make it walking only when it rains. We were told to start at #10, but upon getting there we noticed a group of about 15-20 people gathered around the tee. This isn't usually a problem but they all decided to tee off one group after the other, instead of maybe starting at different holes which would allow smaller groups to play through. It also didn't help that some of them played in groups of 5 which slowed down the pace immensely. It would have been nice if that were regulated a little more. The actual course itself needed some maintenance. It had rained, yes, but it shouldn't have been that bad even if the rain. All in all I would pass on this course and don't plan to play here again.
runaway very very fast
Half the fairways were missing turf. The slowest pace I have ever seen. At one point all I could see where carts Parked on the golf course with people sitting in them not moving. People laying on the tee boxes. you had to see it to believe it. Total disgrace, I can't believe they charge money. Stay away far away. Only clubs needed driver and 7 iron.
The course has some lengthy par 4's that require a good T shot
Great course in very good condition. Would highly reccomend to anyone.
Course needs a ranger
It took our foresome over 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes! I probably would not play this corse on the weekend again until the off season unless they address the need for a ranger to keep up the pace of play.
Also the course ran out ou golf carts! Thats just crazy!
Really nice course
Really nice open course, well maintained. Must say sand bunkers are very intimidating.
greens were quick
Greens were quick, did not like the pin placements when the greens were on a hill, if you were above the hole, forget about getting it close. Too hard for normal golfers. It was like they were setup for the US OPEN. Other than that, great course.
Harry
Great course. Terrible pace.
Great course. Best greens in Wilmington. Fairways are ok. Pace of play is unforgivable. Staff had complaints early on but did nothing. Nearly 5.5 hours beginning with the 2nd shot of the first hole. The slow-pace means I can't recommend it to anybody.
Spring time course
The best time to play this course is in April and early May. In the dog days of summer the course gets baked up pretty bad because of how wide open it is. This time of year is when the course is at it's finest. The greens were soft but very fast and the fairways were very green. If you're going to play Ed Oliver you need to play it before Memorial Day
great staff and experience
I loved it and plan on going every chance I get. Love playing with my father, great place to relax and just enjoy the game.
Great short course if you are up for driving a few par 4's
Enjoyed the course, very short and 2 par 4's are drivable
