linksy with an abundance of water Photo submitted by MarkMolyneux on 03/11/2020
Beautiful but no shade!
Great links style course. From other reviews I’ve gotten that this has vastly improved. Course was in great condition. Tee boxes were about as worn as expected from a public club. No shade so be prepared but great, and difficult course. Bring lots of ammo and water. Loved it but got rained out on 17.
Nice course except I almost passed out
I’ll start with the negatives. No water coolers on the course and no cart girl? Course layout has you by clubhouse after 6th hole and then after 18. It was 91 degrees!! If you are not going to have water coolers, how hard is it to place 2-3 igloo coolers on the course and fill them with water bottles? (Shout out to Pilgrims Oak).
Some of the pin placements were ridiculous. (#3 and 4 standout) Especially with rock hard greens. I even asked the cart kids if there was a greenskeeper revenge tourney later that day.
As far as the positives it has improved 1000% from 2 years ago. Thought I’d play the tips for a challenge and it kicked my butt. Some of the most difficult greens I have played all summer and maybe ever. There were several putts that I hit 3-4 times and couldn’t make. BTW don’t be long on #4. Hole on the edge of a cliff. Auto 3 putt. There are definitely places not to be on greens which is hard for a first timer here. Lipped out a 4 footer on 12 and ended up 30 feet away from hole.
I will definitely be back this summer for another shot at the greens. And yes I will bring my own water.
The turnaround of the year.
I’ve played this course numerous times under the previous ownership, when it was initially good, and then it got progressively worse, until it turned into a literal dog track.
Dog track no more. New ownership, rebranding and a clear and obvious direction has this place finally headed in a direction that the layout deserves.
For reference… I played off the Blue tees. Shot an 85 which is about my handicap. Back 9 gave me a bit of a slap.
The positives. Course layout is linksy. The greens which used to be a tragedy, are now, bar one spot on the 2nd, excellent, and rolling very well. Some seriously tricky pin positions. But the greens roll true if you can get the read.
Fairways are well cut, maintained and mostly absent of crab grass. The first cut of rough is noticeably thicker making hitting fairways a premium. The higher rough is punishing. The water hazards, of which there are numerous for a links style course have been cleaned and tidyed and work is continuing on the cart paths and the drainage. Staff are really friendly and helpful.
The negatives. Still some work to do on some of the holes in terms of presentation, and the drainage. But there were contractors out putting the work in. The bunkers are well placed but, some of them are a little bare of sand. The layout is interesting as you pass the clubhouse after 6, and thereafter don’t see it again before finishing. If there were water coolers on the course this wouldn’t be an issue, and we did see the bev cart loading up as we finished.
TLDR; give it another shot if you haven’t been since it was terrible. You’ll enjoy it.
If you haven’t been before, bring water and a snack at minimum, and play the tees to suite you handicap. I’ll be back.
Link up with St. Anne’s!
Impressive links-style course (with un-links-like water in play on many holes).
Other than a few rough spots on a couple greens, the bent grass putting surfaces were immaculate.
Fairways in good shape but many of the tees need a lot of work.
Otherwise, I’d give the course 5 stars.
needs better tee time spacing and corrected yardages.
Slow course (almost 4 hours to play 9 holes) too many golfers out at a time. Yardages on sprinklers need to be corrected. They are way off. And that leads to wrong club selection. Also suggest planting ornamental grasses at set yardages from the greens. This should help with pace of play.
Slow pace
We have a three some in front of us that took forever to play. There is no one around to control the situation.
great course
surprised by the condition of the course true links course some holes very hard Course very good condition tee boxes were fear
Reputation earned
St Anne's had a bad reputation for many reasons and they lived up to it on my second visit. I booked a 3:30pm tee time and upon arrival I was told the Pro made a mistake and "forgot" to pull the tee times from GolfNow. They told me I could play the front 9 twice for $10 less than would normally pay. I played the front 9 and when I arrived 10 the league was teeing off. The problem here is that the 10th tee is nowhere near the clubhouse. I had to drive back on the front 9 to get back to the first tee. When I arrived at the first tee there were 4 groups waiting. I went home.

Greens are very nice. Bring extra Ammunition if u don’t hit it straight.
