Course keeps improving
Play this course a lot it keeps getting better. Seems like they stay on top of everything.
Course has come a long way in a short time.
Restaurant is very good. The owners have done a great job getting some of the trees and vegetation away from the course. Need more water coolers when the weather is hot.
Potential but poor conditioning
Fairways are in need of TLC - browned out crab grass and weeds abound. Greens have grass but hairier than an orangutan's back. Very poor drainage throughout most of track. Staff are friendly though.
Too expensive for what it is
I have a love/hate relationship with Patriot's Glen. I have played this course so many times since 2020, but the past two years it has been less. Under new ownership a lot has changed, for and better and for worse The good; It is clear to see they are putting effort into the course condition. They also put a lot of work in the clubhouse and other amenities. They have new golf carts with GPS, the bar is totally redone, there is a new whiskey room, and they are currently building a two story driving range. The bad; The course condition is still average at best. I know it is still early but the green condition is terrible. They are so sandy and no green rolls true. It easily the worst green I played this season. The other bad thing is the price. Unless you catch a hot deal, they are charging almost $60-$70 for a round. This is absolutely ridiculous. The course does not justify that price at all. I would be okay paying half that at most to play. It is like they have a vision for what they want the course to be and are already charging that price. Sorry for the rant, just don't play here unless you can catch a deal.
Coming along nicely
The greens have recovered. Some of the fairways still need a little work, but this place is going to be a gem in the summer when the cool double-decker driving range opens.
Dom
Course was wet after a rainy weekend, cart path only conditions. course was in decent condition considering. greens were in great condition for end of march. looking forward to playing again soon. Hot dogs are killer, spicy homemade mustard was a nice touch. Cheers!
Patriot’s Glen National Golf Club Review
Please take in consider that we played in early Spring conditions…
We first played this course a number her of years ago after it reopened after being dormant. We absolutely loved the layout but tees, fairways, and greens were miserable. We tried again a couple of years later hoping for improvement. There was some improvement,IMHO, but not much.
Fast forward to yesterday. Tees were OK, greens were in good shape but shaggy probably because of spring conditions. Traps were OK. However, the fairways were pretty bad — sparse grass, very wet (poor drainage?). That said, we think with proper conditioning, it can be a premier course so the price, given the condition, was high.
It looks like some improvements are being done like a two-tier driving range.
Perhaps we’ll try again in another few years.
Much better than years past
Course is much better than a few years ago, greens were air raided and a little bumpy, but overall looked and played above average for this early in the season. The new Tavern is a major upgrade as well.
Coming back
The course is much improved from the condition it had been in and it is apparent that they are continuing to work on it. The greens now have grass on all of them but they are very slow and somewhat bumpy. The day I played was cart path only and the pace was so slow that I quit after 14 holes and 4 hours and 10 minutes. It would have taken 5 and 1/2 hours. One group had three holes open in front of them but, despite the course having a computerized monitoring system, nobody came out to move them along.
The course was soaked. I know they’re working on bunkers and in time it’s going to be great. I didn’t like that the change of going from 9 to 10. You cannot get to the clubhouse for food or beverage in time or you lose your spot.
Getting better
Great job bringing the greens back to life. Huge accomplishment!! Great job on the overall task of turning around the course from a dirt tract to a highly functioning golf course. Can’t wait to see fairways, tee boxes and faster greens in the spring
Very good course
Well maintained fairways snd greens. The rough is cut to allow for decent lies. I'm never playing Newark CC.
Patriots Glen is a million times better!
