Great course that challenges your skills.
Shining Mountain is a great golfing experience. The staff is very friendly. The course is in excellent condition. Although somewhat narrow in spots, you are rewarded for your good shots. The greens were consistent and true. It was a beautiful fall day and an outstanding golfing experience.
Great Deal
10 bucks for 18 holes and a cart here? Of course I'll do that. Very fun course. Course has been in better condition, but for that price I'm not going to complain. Will definitely play again.
Course in Fantastic shape
Play Shining mountain before winter sets in! All the rain we've had has the course in beautiful shape.
Tougher layout. Lots of marsh areas lining the fairways.
The course was in excellent shape. Greens were firm and quick but quite smooth and rolled true.
Golf at 8,000 ft.
Course is very well maintained and the staff is super friendly. Had a great time.
Beautiful course and friendly people
We went to shining mountain for golf outing before a friend was married. We changed out tee time from Saturday to Sunday and then missed it by over a hour!! I know... Pretty rude except the employees at the course didnt even bat an eye! They put right out and we went about our round as if nothing happened! This is a trying course but set in a gorgeous surrounding! I would go back any day of the week! We were rained out but they happily gave us rain checks! Top notch! Big thanks to mountain!!!
Good layout but condition of course has gone downhill.
I played the course several times in 2010 and it was much better maintained then than now. At present the greens rolled well. Fairways and rough were in acceptable condition. Some tee boxes need attention (grass spotty). The cart paths are in poor condition. The advertised rate for players is higher at Shinning Mountain than it should be. I drove from Colorado Springs to Woodland Park but should have played one of the courses in Colorado Springs, better conditions and less cost at most public courses in Colorado Springs.
Great for Senior players, not super long.
The course sustained a massive amount of rainfall and was closed the day before we played. The course was in good shape considering. Fun to play, will be back.
Interesting layout and beautiful views
We were pleasantly surprised at the good condition and apparent care expended on Shining Mountain. I had played the course years ago when it had a different name and management, It wasn't in good shape then, but present management has improved every hole, spent some money on landscaping and maintenance, and generally upgraded the entire experience--including food in the clubhouse and pro shop merchandise. The course has no long par 5s but interesting and varied 3s and 4s, so it won't be everyone's cup of tea. But for a 15-handicapper, it was a fine experience, with plenty of challenges and wonderful prospect views of the surrounding mountains. Go play.
Narrow and challenging.
Shining Mt is a great mountain meadow course. Narrow in places and challenging. A fun layout. Nice staff.
Wild Mountain Course
I have played Evergreen for decades and Shining Mountain has the same feel with longer yardage and a links style front nine.
First Time Visit Observations
This is a very interesting course with some substantial difficulties to play around. The front 9 holes has some similarities to links style courses with weedy ditches that have to be cleared en route from tee box to greens. There are a few blind dog legs as well that present challenges. The back 9 holes are more scenic, generally longer and flow out into a more natural environment. They are very pretty and challenging. Overall, the fairways are pretty narrow and there is not a lot of wiggle room before you're in a bog, weeds or woods. This is not a bad thing. The course is relatively peaceful and has some great wildlife around it.
The tee boxes were quite hard in many places, there was some irregularity to the fairways (rough patches of brown dirt etc) and the greens were very hard and fast - that's also OK, but the greens had a lot of lines on them as if they'd been resodded in the recent past.
Overall, I'd come back and play again because I like a challenging course and I like a peaceful course set in nature. The value through GolfNow was outstanding.
Mountain golf in quiet setting.
Course at 8500 ft. elevation and the ball really flies. Front side tighter than back. Keep it in the fairways and you can score well; rough gives you lots of bare and uneven lies, tufts of spotty grass. Greens are very good and well maintained. I had the feeling a bear was going to come out of the forest onto the course. Very quiet and secluded and well worth the 30 minute drive from downtown Colorado Springs.
Worth the drive
This course has wonderful mountain views and challenging terrain. Numerous tiered greens. Located just outside a small quaint town it is worth the drive up the pass to play.
A fun course to play.
The course was in good shape. The second time we were diverted because of an outside wedding.
CHALLENGING LAYOUT
a VERY TOUGH COURSE WELL MAINTAINED FOR BEING A MOUNTAIN COURSE
Great Views, Mountain Course
This is a great mountain course that is challenging and in great shape in spite of the lack of rain in Colorado. The greens were in great shape, rolled true and the fairways were green and also in good shape. There were some dry areas as could be expected with the drought conditions, but I was very pleased. The staff was outstanding and friendly and I couldn't of asked for a better day to be in the mountains playing golf with blue skies and sunshine.
Definitely worth the money to play and finding great deals on golf now helped the budget.
Beautiful course in Woodland Park, Colorado
Shining Mountain Golf Course is a beautiful course located in Woodland Park, Colorado. It has a great view of Pikes Peak to the south. This course is very challenging, with the potential for trouble on nearly every hole. The day I played the greens were in good shape and the speed was medium. Keep the ball in the fairway and you are rewarded with reasonable distance 2nd shots and greens that hold. Get off of the fairway and the course gets much more difficult. Be ready to play smart shots. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Great views of Pikes Peak
Course a little rough around the edges but SUPER views of
Pikes Peak, outstanding staff and a great bang for your buck
in the high country. Will play again...
