Puakea Golf Course

Enjoyed playing the course. Many greens were rather poor, others excellent. Someone said they were changing the grass on the greens. A playing partner was checking in and someone else was being charged $95 but nothing was said about the condition of the greens. They should let people know course conditions.

We have played Puakea several times in the past, but we noticed this time how much the course conditions had improved. We thought they were excellent. The greens were not real fast, but they were true, and we had a most enjoyable golfing experience.

Some nice golf holes for sure. Could be a great course if the greens were in better condition.

Course is a good challenge , condition of course fair to poor some greens were in very poor condition which made unpredictable from green to another ...

Puakea is a great golf value. From check in in the modest pro shop to loading my clubs back in the car I had a great time. The course is well maintained, scenic, and has enough challenge for me. The price was excellent, the staff friendly, and the pace was like country club golf. All around, this is one of the best values I've had in all of Hawaii. Put it on your list and you won't be disappointed.

Course is in good shape, some very challenging holes from the tips. Starter is outstanding, friendly and always remembers me from year to year. Play it every year.

Puakea is challenging but fair. It has pretty wide fairways, but is very well bunkered with some steep bunkers. It is a very fun layout where shot making is at a premium. I have several family members who golf and this is our favorite on Kauai and one of our favorites in all of Hawaii. Staff if very friendly. It is definitely a course which it helps to have played once before.

I would have rated higher but the greens had other grasses mixed in making difficult to putt. The greens were not consistent from one hole to the next.

Well worth the $ nice challenging course. Will definitely play again. Golfnow price was excellent.

Awesome course overall - especially for the price. It was a crazy windy day but we still enjoyed it. My only complaint is that there was no beverage cart AND you were limited to purchasing 4 beers at a time. With 2 people in a cart, that's 2 beers per person for 9 holes until you make the turn. For someone who thoroughly enjoys drinking while they play, this was frustrating. And on this particular day, the restaurant/bar closed at 2pm. Luckily the pro shop staff were extremely nice and unlocked it so I could purchase a few more!

Was treated incredibly well by a course that caters to locals but makes the tourist feel special. The course is in great shape, only knock would be the greens are slow. On Kauai this is the best terrain you will find, views of the mountains and weaving through the tropical forest really make you feel like you are playing somewhere else! Love this course and definitely will return.

We picked this course as a vacation week warmup and it was a good decision. Nice course, not in perfect condition but well maintained, not crowded on the day we playe, friendly staff, enough challenging - and picturesque - holes to make the day enjoyable and worth the visit. We would go back.

Great layout at very good price. Greens were not what I remembered from my last trip and were a little bumpy. Staff is excellent, Glenn came out to range to check on me as I had booked the wrong day and had to correct it. He was very helpful. Great value when in Kauai and beautiful holes and layout on back 9. I would recommend as a great alternative to the higher priced resort courses. We played Kauai Lagoons but went to Puakea to eat lunch for the Loco Moco. Give it a try, maybe the best on the island.

Nice, but from the condition, is not a bit aged. Greens really slow and shaggy but some really interesting holes, including a downhill par three over water. Staff helpful. Great location, close to the Marriot Resort where we stayed. Check out the great hot dogs in the restaurant. Staff very helpful.

Played Puakea a few times via GolfNow while on vacation to Kauai. The course is in great shape and you get some great mountain views once you get past the view of the Costco (just a few holes). The first time I played on Dec 16, 2014 was an amazing experience, from the parking lot to the 18th green was greeted warmly by the starter and had a great round. The second time I played, Dec 19, 2014 was the exact opposite. The starter, I believe his name was Rich greeted us in the parking lot and then immediately gave me a 10 minute lecture on why my fiance (a beginner) who was really just along for the ride could not go on the course with her tank top on. Asked where I was from and went on to say "well I don't know how they do things in blank...BUT here on Kauai we have a strict dress code" Okay, I get it all you had to say was we would really appreciate it if your partner would adhere to the dress code not go on this 10 minute long diatribe on how things are different on Kauai. Then after he was done with me I got another lecture from one of the female cart attendants who wanted to get in on the action. By this point I was fuming and had to bite my tongue not to snap back. Rich, you ruined our experience, a little more tact next time would be greatly appreciated. I still have one more round to go next week, I just hope we get the first starter.

The course is easy to get to and the check in process was well done. The starter was friendly and provided an overview of the practice facilities and introduced us to the single that joined up with us. Overall the course was in good shape however the greens were a bit slow and shaggy. Pace of play was good with no issues. The value for dollar spent was good. For the first time around it is a bit tricky to know where to best position your shots. Yardage markers were hard to find so having a range finder would be helpful. Windy day added to the challenge but overall a good day was had by all

I had reservations about playing a course that was very near the Costco and such a reasonable price for Hawaii. What a pleasant surprise, I am going to buy the multi-play pass for sure. The course has everything I wanted, challenging but not overly difficult.

Love the course. The wind ate my lunch today. I will definitely be back!
