Puakea Golf Course

Good value, ok facilities, staff friendliness was just ok

I am enjoying golf for about 15years.
I live in Seoul Korea. I have gone to san francisco golf club though Golfnow.com.
I think that this golf club is good view and nice price ,normaly food .
But If I get chance come again in Kauai , I will book in this Golf club.

The reviews I'd read (from 2013) seemed to indicate that the course was dried out, but all the fairways were in great shape. Greens putted true. Some staff interested in making sure you had a good experience, others...not so much. The starter certainly did a good job of getting me pointed in the right direction...he asked the key question: "Have you ever played this course?"

I'll play this course again.

Conditions are drier compared to the high end resort courses. I do not believe fairways are irrigated. Few holes driving in was around the commercial areas, but I was pleased to see that the course quickly entered into the terrain around the resort and natural reserve areas. Bang for the buck is great. It was wonderful looking at the views. We finished 3 hours 20 minutes as a threesome with no one around. Tee time 10 AM. We appreciate the hard working locals at this golf course!

Course was a little dry.Weather to blame overall decent shape.

Overall a great time playing here. The staff were all super friendly and helpful from start to finish! The course was in pretty good shape and has some great holes, my favorite being a super down hill par 3 #6. The greens varied a lot so it's tough to get comfortable with speed and landing, but I heard they are working through each one. My biggest gripe would have to be the bunkers. Most looked very hard with little sand, and some have grass/weeds growing in them.

Great course. Need to make decisions as to club selection due to the wind. Many holes have bunkers that also demand course management. Beautiful views of the Kauai mountains. Some real beautiful holes. Fun to play.

I only play this course when I can get a steeply discounted rate. My wife drove about 45 minutes from Princeville to get there, and they let her ride along the first time to spot my balls, rather than either wait four hours or drive back to Princeville. The second time I played there, they wanted $20 for her just to ride along and enjoy the scenery, so she made the additional 1 1/2 hour round trip instead! They have water to drink along the course, and a dry towel, apparently in lieu of ball washers to wash your dirty ball. This course ranks low on many native Hawaiians priority list, although I thought the greens were excellent and better than those at Kiahuna. Wide fairways, lots of bunkers and some deceiving water hazards. It's across the street from COSTCO in Lihue and close to the airport, so gas up and have a slice of pizza there afterwards.

Course always in good shape, greens are true and smooth.

Enjoyed playing the course. Many greens were rather poor, others excellent. Someone said they were changing the grass on the greens. A playing partner was checking in and someone else was being charged $95 but nothing was said about the condition of the greens. They should let people know course conditions.

We have played Puakea several times in the past, but we noticed this time how much the course conditions had improved. We thought they were excellent. The greens were not real fast, but they were true, and we had a most enjoyable golfing experience.

Some nice golf holes for sure. Could be a great course if the greens were in better condition.

Course is a good challenge , condition of course fair to poor some greens were in very poor condition which made unpredictable from green to another ...

Puakea is a great golf value. From check in in the modest pro shop to loading my clubs back in the car I had a great time. The course is well maintained, scenic, and has enough challenge for me. The price was excellent, the staff friendly, and the pace was like country club golf. All around, this is one of the best values I've had in all of Hawaii. Put it on your list and you won't be disappointed.

Course is in good shape, some very challenging holes from the tips. Starter is outstanding, friendly and always remembers me from year to year. Play it every year.

Puakea is challenging but fair. It has pretty wide fairways, but is very well bunkered with some steep bunkers. It is a very fun layout where shot making is at a premium. I have several family members who golf and this is our favorite on Kauai and one of our favorites in all of Hawaii. Staff if very friendly. It is definitely a course which it helps to have played once before.

I would have rated higher but the greens had other grasses mixed in making difficult to putt. The greens were not consistent from one hole to the next.

Well worth the $ nice challenging course. Will definitely play again. Golfnow price was excellent.

Awesome course overall - especially for the price. It was a crazy windy day but we still enjoyed it. My only complaint is that there was no beverage cart AND you were limited to purchasing 4 beers at a time. With 2 people in a cart, that's 2 beers per person for 9 holes until you make the turn. For someone who thoroughly enjoys drinking while they play, this was frustrating. And on this particular day, the restaurant/bar closed at 2pm. Luckily the pro shop staff were extremely nice and unlocked it so I could purchase a few more!

Great golf though. :)
