Great course except
Cart girl rarely available. She spent more time at the club house instead of being out there. We had to end our round early due to near dehydration.

The course was in gr8 shape. Starter Paul was friendly. Food was life sustaining. The one drawback, and it was huge because we experienced same thing last time here early in year, was pace of play. We sought out a ranger to allow us to play through or speed up group in front of us. They were waiting ON EACH HOLE for green to clear before hitting when none of them could come close to hitting green. Even when 230 yards out they waited then hit ball 75 yards. They left cart in front of greens instead of on side then leisurely walked to cart when we were obviously waiting for them.
Must play coursr
Been playing here for 28yrs..
This is the best condition it's ever been in!! Must play this course..
Timberlin golf course is a great place to play. Staff is extremely friendly. Course itself is in grate shape, pretty challenging especially for the beginners. I would recommend this course and I will play it again.
Played the course about 6 times. Have always had a good golfing experience.
Staff and fellow golfers are very friendly. It's a good atmosphere for a nice round of golf. Would recommend it to all.
Nice Course. Terrible Cart Paths
Timberlin is a great course to play. The fairways, the day I played, were in great shape and the greens were sloping, in many cases, but fair. The back nine is more scenic (for example; the 17th tee box) and has more water holes.
As for your golfing game; your tee shots must be accurate, depending on which tee set you hit from, as there are fairway bunkers within driver range on most holes. If you’ve never played Timberlin I suggest you visit their website and check out the on-line “Yardage Book” for advice and yardage on each hole.
The only complaint I have is the condition of the cart paths. They are a mix of asphalt, gravel, dirt or no cart path at all throughout the course. Most of the asphalt cart paths have potholes and uneven surfaces that require your fullest attention to drive on. Additionally, the transition from many tee box asphalt cart paths to the fairway is worn down, lumpy bare earth. Also, the man-made cart paths from many greens to the next tee box were like an obstacle course as you wind your way over or around tree roots. My suggestion is to replace most severely damaged cart paths with gravel. It’s cost effective and I’ve seen it used successfully on quite a few public courses in Connecticut.
Nice open course
Played 18. There was a reservation error that was resolved. Golfnow had us down for 10:54 but the course stated they received a reservation for 9:56. Ended up teeing off about 10:30. Felt a little rushed off the first tee because the starter had already lined up a group but let us go before them. After that the play was fine. The course is very open and good for beginners. Nice par 3 holes. Fairways were well maintained. Lots of bunkers! Will play again.
Timberlin
Always a wonderful time! I recommend Timberlin to all my fellow golfers!! You won't be disappointed!!
Excellent
It was an overcast day after several days of rain
Great shape ...Needed to be cut but weather conditions
put them behind ...best sand traps in the area....nice layout...good price through GOlfnow
Lotsa Fairway Bunkers
Timberlin Golf Club, located in Kensington, CT, is one of those courses you’ll like to play often. This town-owned course is very well-managed and maintained, and the layout is a mix of holes with wide fairways and mostly manicured trees, grass or pine needles bordering adjacent fairways. The pros’ play on fairways with no trash vegetation between them, why not us amateurs? There’s nothing more annoying, in my book anyway, than playing on a course with small trees, brush and pricker bushes bordering adjoining fairways. A ball hit in this kinda rough is lost, at Timberlin it is usually playable or found.
The course is not easy though. Almost every par four and par five have fairways bunkers within driver range and three have creeks to contend with off the tee. My suggestion is to check out the Timberlin website as there is a hole-by-hole summary with helpful yardage and hazard information. Better yet, purchase a yardage book from the pro shop or use a hand-held GPS if you have one. If you are a medium to long hitter you will have bunkers or water to contend with off the tee.
The course is longish with ranges from 6858-6500-6113-5907-5402 yds overall. For example, the par five 1st is 534 yards from the whites and the 6th is 540 yds. Non-resident rates are reasonable: $37 regular, $27.50 seniors, $17 for a cart. There is a small driving range on site but a larger one is being approved.
This course is great for all player levels because the fairways are wide, tee boxes & fairways lush and the greens fair and true, not tricked up and ill-kept.
Although there has been very little rain this season, the course was well watered with just a few bare spots the day I played. The first cut of rough was a bit long though. There are plenty of real “water fountains” and porta-potties are strategically placed on the course. Basically the holes are straight but the three doglegs are just bends not 90 degree turns. A small brook bisects a few holes but yardage signs at most tee boxes give the distances to these hazards. The many sand traps were well-maintained.
The pace of play was slow this day and we could have used a ranger to move one foursome along. To help speed up play there are clocks on each par 3 that indicate how your group is doing compared to your tee time. We didn't get how they worked until we noticed instructions on each golf cart and on the back of the scorecard. It was an interesting way to move people along. Sometimes they work, sometimes not.
Timberlin is great course to play with your buddies, spouse and even a client. I find it a fair course for all skill levels.
You MUST play here...
If you play primarily public courses, and you enjoy playing different tracks, you definitely need to be sure TIMBERLIN is somewhere in your rotation list.
Course a good length from the white tees. Par 3s are nice length (150 - 175). Par 5s are all legit three-shot holes unless you are super-long off the teebox. Par 4s are a good mix of straightaways and doglegs (no tricky 90-degree angle holes here!).
Conditions are ALWAYS outstanding. The course's website is very, very helpful (they always publish aeration schedules and provide weekly updates on their bunker repairs/additions.
I could go on and on, but you should stop reading and make a teetime so you can find out for yourself.
Pace of play was slow on this day, mostly because there was no ranger around to get the group in front of us moving.
