Family operated stillworks

Clean course ,simple layout, short game test. Had two holes where you can use a wood.No#7 best hole on course.various distances on the par threes

My only drawback would be hey should change the driving markers more frequently so your not hitting off bald areas..Well worth the money paid.

Excellent value for the money

While the course itself is on the shorter side (there are no par five holes), it was still an enjoyable and challenging experience.

What the course lacks in length, it makes up for in difficulty. Holes often require the player to execute a specific strategy in order to reach the green in regulation.

Once on the green, the player is rarely presented with a straight putt, which replaces some of the challenge lost by the shorter hole length.

All in all, the staff was extremely friendly and the course was in good condition. I would happily return in the future.

Great little course

The course plays at a par 30 for nine holes. Fairways and greens were in excellent shape. The only problems were the tee boxes ( uneven) and no coffee! But a great little 9 hole course! Plus the price was right! $23 w/cart!

9 holes worth playing through

Fun course and reasonably priced to play through for 18 holes , challenging but great practice for your irons and putter as the holes aren’t that long. Highly recommend

Gem of a course!

First time playing here. Really well maintained. Pretty course with some challenging holes. Played after the rain, so the course was wet, but in great shape. Definitely will play her again!

Hidden Challenge

Chose this course based off it having a range and being a 9 hole executive course. When I first looked at the scorecard, I thought it wouldn’t be as challenging but certainly had some creative and challenging holes. Course condition was great for being May 1st. Certainly hilly and may not be best for all to walk but will certainly get a workout walking.

Staff needs work

Staff at club house window not very friendly at all. I had to ask for a Pencil And scorecard. Holes need better directions and signs.

Typical fall round in New England. Wet, fallen leaves and branches in the the course. Friendly staff, great service. Can’t wait to golf this course again hopefully in a dry day.

Executive Track with Character

A few major points about Miner Hills:

A) Above all, this course offers excellent value, as good executive tracks often do. I walked it today, paying $14, a cost-effective rate when you consider that the typical Connecticut public course costs about $22, typically, to walk on weekdays. This, then, is less than 2/3 the price of the ‘standard’ par-36. And many driving ranges will charge as much (perhaps more?) for a large bucket of balls. As the catchphrase goes on NFL Monday Night Countdown, “C’Mon, Man!” … This is a great deal!

B) Conditions were surprisingly good for an executive track: smooth greens, well-conditioned bunkers, carefully cut rough—especially around the greens—as well as manicured greenside fringes. It’s clear that the owners take pride in how their golf course looks, and Miner Hills has definite aesthetic appeal. The one weakness was some patchiness in the landing areas of two of the three par-4 fairways, but perhaps that’s quibbling a bit. The greens were also definitely slow, but I adjusted to them quickly enough. For some they may be an acquired taste.

C) Played with a very nice gentleman today, whom I bumped into on the first tee. We hit it off and enjoyed a great conversation throughout the nine. This is one of the things I enjoy most about playing golf.

D) Two things I really like about Miner Hills:

ONE) This is real golf. Why? You’re not getting, as is the case with many executives, a boring string of simple-minded par-threes. Four of the six three-pars here—two, five, six, and nine—are holes where you’ll truly work to earn threes. Five, in particular, is an absolute bear, and the other two three-pars, one and seven, are hardly pushovers.

TWO) The trio of par-4’s has genuine variety. Hole three is straightforward with a hidden pond and some headache-inducing mature trees scattered on the periphery. Hole four is short, doglegging and tight; moreover, it sports a well-protected, raised green. Hole seven, on the other hand, is nasty and brutish: straight uphill, nothing but slopes and awkward lies, and a two-tiered green which may give you fits. It’s also a ‘road hole,’ so heading too far right—off the tee, especially—is not a valid option.

E) The cherry on top of all of this is the ninth, hardly a routine closer for an executive. In fact, it looks much like something Al Zikorus would design, travelling 130 yards uphill to a strongly pitched green with a deep fall-off on the right.

All of this for fourteen bucks? C’Mon, Man! Play it.
