Active Aeration!
Booked our round for four through golfnow.com and there was no warning about aeration. I inquired in the clubhouse and was told "it will not affect your play at all". I prefer to decide that for myself. We proceeded to hole 10, where starter sent us, instead of hole 1. There were plugs on the entire fairway and it continued throughout our round, with active aeration and work equipment buzzing about. Great course and friendly starter. Will consider returning when there isn't active maintenance.
Pleasant Surprise
Pleasantly surprised with this course....tight in areas with some real challenges, but also some forgiving holes to help keep you in the game. Staff was very personable and friendly both in and out of the clubhouse. First time playing here, definitely won't be our last!
Webpage needs to be more informative
Played on a perfect day in the late afternoon (4:10), except when I get to the course, am told in the pro shop that a NCAA tournament was going on and play will be affected, saw nothing on the RM webpage, if info there, would not have booked, saw rangers following the tournament players both men and women, but no one following paying golfers, foursome in front of us had a full hole and a half open in front, but didn't wave us thru, oh no.. etiquette not being followed?
Reviews for this course have always mentioned slow play, I never finished 18, actually played the back nine over and got thru 5 more holes before stopping. One thing did strike me though, the greens were beat up, looked like dart boards, would think these younger golfers would respect the course and fix ball marks, but sadly saw more marks than fixes, will certainly try again sometime, but overall not the best day to be here.
Slow pace; sending groups off too quickly and not monitoring pace of play
Slow pace; sending groups off too quickly and not monitoring pace of play. Really packing groups in and not monitoring the slow groups .
The Rock
I play here all the time great course. They always running good specials.
Rock Manor.....good but fix your divots!
Good challenging course. Conditions are generally good but too many divots on the greens. They really need to move pace of play....too slow. Here is a reminder......
A "marshal" or "course marshal" is an individual whose duties generally focus on helping manage the flow around the golf course.
Great course in a great conditions. Not for Beginers/Learners
It's a great course for a perfect price.
You have to be playing golf for 3-5 years to really enjoying playing here because most holes are narrow, greeens are fast and you have to have good course Managment skills, balls control and awesome drives to score well on this course.
Ashame
Played the other day with two other guys. Teed off at 9:32 didn't finish until 2:30, seems to be the common theme. What's ashame is I road solo. Once I was done I dropped my cart off to the area where all the guys take the carts to be clean and left. On Saturday morning I played at another course and went to get my Range Finder (Xmas gift from my kids) out of my bag and realized I left it in the front rt compartment of my cart. I wasn't to alarmed because I figure the employees would of seen it and figure I would be calling/coming back for it, WELL I WAS WRONG ABOUT THAT. When I called to pro shop they said "nope nothing was turned in". I then called on Sunday to check again. What bothers me is it isn't like I dropped it on the course and someone picked it up... nothing can be done about that. But knowing that after I used it on 9 ( we started round at 10) I put it in the case and simply forgot (it does happen)it in the cart, that who ever cleaned that cart found it and didn't turn it in is what's ashame. I've emailed all the administrative including General Manager who said he/she would follow up and call me...nope I had to call. You would think employees would be trainined in the type of course management edicut. So I hope future golfers understand that if you sure some reason forget something here good chance you won't get it back. The ironic thing about that day was when I was leaving the parking a guy dropped his 3 iron headcover and I pulled over, picked it up and drove it to him.....smh THANKS TO ALL THE WONDERFUL STAFF.
Great Deal
I have played Rock Manor about 7 or 8 times over the last 3 years and every time it has been an enjoyable experience. The course has been in good to great shape every time, the staff has been friendly and the prices more than fair. The one issue I have run into has been pace of play, but that is something I brace myself for anytime I play a public course. I think the staff could do a bit of a better job spacing out the groups, but outside of that I have no complaints about the experience.
The greens run fast and true, the bunkers are in excellent shape, and you get a good lie in the fairway virtually every time. The course has a fun layout and no single hole stands out as being particularly gimmicky or unfair.
I don't understand some of these negative reviews. The only thing I can think of is people have some unrealistic expectations. While I get that a slow round can be cumbersome, I can't say anything negative about the course itself. If you aren't looking to drop $100 on a round, Rock Manor is an excellent option.
Sketchy Shape, Pure Greens
Plain and simple this was the final round of our event with 16 guys teeing it up for three days. We played White Clay and Glen Mills prior to finishing Sunday at the Rock.
The postives, the greens were/are in great shape. For as many rounds as they put out the greens look and roll phenomenal. You may have to fix some ball marks from the riff raff they get, but the greens are great for this course right now.
Cart girl was solid, great effort on the beverages. Saw her twice. Not bad for 8am tee times.
The negatives; they just throw people out there. Our first group is 8:00. Tee off exactly at 8. By 8:06 the starter is firing our next group. That's half the problem. They want to get groups put, and allow for it to get backed up. Plain and simple they are notorious for it.
Tee boxes and fairways left a lot to be desired. Again no ranger patrolling people filling divots and such so you end up in some craters sitting in the middle of the fairway.
At $69 on a Sunday morning I felt only a little bit slighted, but they threw in a small bucket, hot dogs, chips and a soda. Not an awful deal.
Play it if you have s xhance
I've played this course the last 4 years, it's probably in the best shape I can remember. It can be a very enjoyable course if you stay in the middle but if you are spraying the ball it can be a nightmare! It offers a variety of lengths to challenge all skill levels. Play it if you have a chance!
Rocky at the Manor
We started on the back 9 and almost immediately noticed some very rough patches in the fairways, rough and par 3 tee boxes. Too be in that poor of shape this early in the season is not a good sign. For the going rate there are some better options in the area.
The course itself is challenging with a couple of funky holes but nothing overly absurd. The greens are smaller but not postage stamp small. Very undulating and at a medium/slow speed. Even with the slow greens there are some very big breaks.
Rock was a Rock
Not worth the $42...Condition of course was not great...Lots bare spots in fairways...Greens were top dressed so can't say what they were like normally...Course layout is nice, but conditions made it tough to enjoy...Biggest bright spots were Mary the cart girl who was always around to assist us with drinks and Amanda the bartender who was very attentive, and did a super job with keeping everyone happy after our round...
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Regarding the golfer's comments about $100 rounds, NO ONE should be paying that rate, at ANY course in the tri state area, courses will charge it if golfers pay it, am very dismayed in the jump I have seen in prices the last 2-3 years, I play on a budget, as do many of you, let your course pro know that green fees don't equal the course conditions if it is applicable.
