Pace of Play is awful
They do not enforce pace of play and they always send you off the back nine. It is very frustrating. It can be a very nice course, but when it takes 3 hours to play nine holes on a Tuesday night after 5pm it deters me from going there. This has happened the last few times I have been there
Wish I knew before I played
I see the aeration notifications on golfnow for some courses, but not all courses alert golfnow when they do it. I'm sure I am speaking for ALL golfers when I say no one likes to play on aerated greens, but we understand it needs to be done. This is what happened with my round at the Rock. The deal was almost too good to be true. Should have known why. Rock manor is well known for 5+ hour rounds and is very expensive to play. It is the closest golf course to my house, but those two reasons are why I generally don't play the Rock often. It's in fair shape. Some fairways had some spots with no grass at all, and as I said, they had aerated recently. It drizzled on and off all afternoon, but the two of us played in just under 4hrs. It was nice to play Rock manor yesterday and hope to find another hot deal to get to play it again this year. But I'll never pay full price.
staff was very unfriendly. also they are way overpriced for what the course is. They started us on 10 for some reason which was annoying. Pace of play was very slow. This course overbooks and their staff doesn't care about the customer experience. Find another place to play or you will regret going to Rock Manor.
Golf in shorts in February... Priceless
I booked the round as a single the mornign I played. I was a few minutes late so I got placed with a 3some of younger guys which I prefered over playing with older gentlemen. We had a lot in common and the round moved along very well considering it was 72 degrees on a Friday. Pace of play was better than I thought. We were stuck behind a 3 some that was a bit slow but we never spent more than 5 minutes on a tee box waiting to tee off. Some of the tee boxes were blocked off because they were resoding them but the set up was still nice. Staff is friendly and I generally dont like playing here because of the price in the summer but I splurged since the weather was so nice. It's not a 54 dollar course as the summer fees seem to be. I use gofl now and try to find the hot deals and Rock Manor popps up every now and then. I would play there again but look for a hot deal first. I've had problems with people picking up my ball if my shot strayed from our fairway several times in the past, so keep an eye on your shot and go right to it. The big plus for my yesterday was the course was NOT cart paths only, so that definately helps the pace of play. They are doing a good job maintaining this course.
Horrible experience
Slow and expensive for what it is. Didn't get to play but two rounds. I spoke to an assistant manager and he was extremely rude. Complete waste of money! Don't go and if you do, talk to someone that's actually in charge!!
Great value!
Ventured out of South Jersey to find better public golf conditions after a rough August with heat & slow recovery from aeration. Rock Manor is well maintained and was in very nice shape. The greens are always fast and tricky, even inside 3-4 feet! It's definitely worth the drive !
course
Great layout, easy t play, friendly staff, especially the starters.
Terrible shape
The "Rock" needs help big time. Fairways are burnt out and have grassless patches. The greens were aerated recently and are horrible to play on. Worst aeration I've ever seen. Skip this course if you're thinking of playing it. Not worth the price
Over priced city course
Booked a tee time and was not told until I arrived that only 9 holes were open. What a waste of time and way over priced. The front 9 was in horrible shape, dead spot in the fairways, rough was patchy and low, and most of the tee boxes were chewed up. Greens were the only thing in good shape. Funny they had the back 9 closed to aerate the greens? Why not pay attention to the fairways and tee boxes since the green were in good shape. With only 9 holes open pace of play was slow even though there was only 4 groups of 3 golfers ahead of us. They had kids camp & high school team using the practice areas and driving range. I will never go back.
major disappointment
A friend of mine booked our tee times through GolfNow. As l pull into the course, l see workers and equipment across the entire back 9. We were not told until we were teeing off on 1 that only the front 9 was open and we would play it twice. Disgraceful. The greens were excellent, but almost every fairway was dreadful and the tee boxes were completely chewed up. This course is usually in excellent shape but is always over-crowded and over-priced, but we thought we got a good deal. Never again will they get our money. If they dont care about this course, then why should l?
Speed it up!
Course is always in great condition, as far a the course itself it's really one of the best in upstate Delaware. What keeps it off the Best of list in my opinion is the subpar driving range (pun intended) and the unbelievable slow pace of play. It is undoubtably a detriment to the course. No one wants a round over 4.5 hours but you will get it every time at Rock Manor. At least a 5hr round. They have no clue on how to space the tee times to ensure pace, it's literally like 6min apart between tee times. You will be waiting on the tee boxes and in the fairway (or rough) to hit your hit your shot. There is no way to get into a groove. Additionally the driving range is horrible as it is only mats, no grass tee area. The green fees for this course rival that of White Clay Creek, Glen Mills, and Broad Run. But the it is not managed nowhere close to those courses. I I courage to the management take a look at those courses and see how it's done.
Consistent
Rock is in good shape but as always it is a little slow on weekday afternoons. They definitely raised the prices to decrease demand but the real solution is to space out tee times by a few minutes so there are fewer groups out on the course at once. Still a good track that plays relatively easy if your ball is in play.
Greens
I play weekly,weather permitting.best greens I've played this year.
Convenient and good conditions
Nice short course. If you are a long hitter you may want to leave your club in the bag.
Rock Manor
I would play this course again.
3.5 Stars
Course was great for the money. They are redoing all the bunkers which will be great once finished. I wouldn't pay anymore than $50 to play here though.
Where is the value?
OK, overall I am a fan of this course. I have played several time over the years and still the same problem...PACE OF PLAY! This course gets a lot of play and our round was just about 5 hours on a Sunday afternoon (noon t-time). Bunkers are being redone and temporary green on #14, both don't bother me. My biggest issue is value. A good price for an afternoon round should be about $30...not the $50 I paid. Nice course, give it a shot, but there are better values out there. Will I be back? Probably. Its a fun course, just need a super GolfNow deal to get me back. By the way, range and chipping/putting green is nice. If you are looking for a place to practice, The Rock is a good choice.
Sand traps under construction
I've played here multiple times and always had a good experience. All of the sand traps are under construction with heavy equipment in place. I had to chip shot that was 25' from the hole but I had to go over a backhoe to get there. They are already charging summer rates and no warning at the time of booking the tee time.
Pro shop employee was great but the bar staff was very slow and not very friendly.
Overall, I will play here again but probably again not this year.
Fun Course
First time playing here. Enjoyed all 18 holes. Will definitely go back. The only downside was the use of a temporary green on the 14th hole.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I agree 1000%. Nice course but only worth $40 to $45 a round.
