Pin Positions
Rock Manor is notorious for loooong rounds. Here is an idea, how about putting the pins in easier locations on the weekends so that the threesome that has a match going and is offering no gimmees actually 2 putts some holes as opposed to 3 and 4 putts. This starts off the 6:00 am tee time to a 4.5 hour round and it gets worse from there. Sometimes it's not just slow play of the golfers. The course needs to see this and understand they are part of the problem and are not providing a solution. Every pin was on a ridge, while there were clearly other areas they could have been placed. I pulled into the driveway and saw a threesome starting hole 11, by hole 18 we had caught up to them and we had a 6:10 tee time. The rest of the front was hit and wait. They were not bad golfers and were within their rights to hole out every putt and have a match if they so chose to do so. Easier pin positions would have cut an hour off their round. By the time we got done at 10:20, (a 4+ hour round for 3 golfers is ridiculous at 6 AM) there was already a 35 minute backup. I asked.
It's a decent course, well located with early tee times available, just fix the problem, because you can.
Walkers???
This would be an excellent course however the walkers like in most courses destroy the day!!! Their ignorance turns things into a 5hr round when most ruling bodies are trying to speed up game. I will not return till they make carts mandatory and can't recommend this course to anybody that wants a 4hr or less rd.
Would Return
The overall conditions of the course were good, with the exception of the greens which were great. They need to bolster the rough, it was patchy , ie. someplaces it was penal and others it was almost nonexistent.
Interesting and worth playing
Nice course and plays longer than stated distance. Challenging with elevation changes. Greens difficult to read and large, but I wish they were in slightly better shape. Many very interesting holes. One big negative on day we played--round took 5 1/2 hrs!
First time playing
Liked the course. Has some challenging holes, with elevation changes. Greens recently aerated, were slower and bumpy. I have bad knees, so used a cart, but there were 7 cart path only holes. Walking the hills was tough for me. Lucked out, by getting out just a head of school teams starting, so my round went smoothly. Under 4 hours. Starter was great, took time to explain the course and give advise. Live in south Jersey and this was only 30 minutes a way. Definitely will return.
Great value in Philadelphia area
Compared to some courses in Philly and surrounding suburbs, this is much nicer. Much better value too. Rangers were great. Only problem was the greens were being aerated. Great spot, great pace of play.
Great course that needs to improve conditions
I thought this was a fun course, easy to get to as it's right off the highway. The course layout was really nice but, conditions were pretty bad. LOTS of brown patches all over the fairway and lots of what looked like spots where they tried to patch the grass but the grass didn't take root. The greens were in really good condition and were fast! I would recommend and plan on playing again.
The only complaint I had was that I arrived early for my teetime with my buddy. We were playing as a 2 some and were ready to go. The starter made us wait over 30mins because two 4somes had earlier teetimes than us but were not ready to play. They should have let us out first and we would not have affected anyone. Instead they made us wait for both 4somes, even though they were not ready. That resulted in us having to wait at least 5mins at every teebox.
Nice course in great shape
This was the first time I've played this course and I was very pleased with the value. It was in excellent condition for so early in the season. The greens were very smooth and quick. Although the round was slow (5 hours plus), I enjoyed playing the course and would go back.
Glad you enjoyed the round! Hope to see you back soon!
Great course / tough
Still early in the season but the couse was in great shape in April. Pace of play was slow but course was packed on a Saturday
To slow
Started at 1210 pm ... Pace of play to slow !!! We had walkers in front of us course is to long to be walked especially in prime time part of day and with cart path only it really slows the round down and doesn't make for an enjoyable round of golf ..... With that and weather being a bit chilly we halted our round after 13 holes .....
We are sorry you had a bad experience. We will gladly give rain checks for holes not player. Please come see us again soon.
Nice public course in Wilmington DE
This course was taken over by the county and redone a few years back. The layout is interesting and the conditions are pretty good for a public course. Pace of play was good for a summer Saturday. It is by no means an easy course, but it is fair. The greens are much better than your average public course and much faster than your average public course. Price is fair. It should be on your list if you live in the area.
Ktruitt99, Glad you enjoyed the course! Hope to see you in 2015!
surprisingly bad shape
This course is usually in good shape. I know it is late in the season, but compared to other courses it was very bare in the fairway and the greens were horrible. Definitely the worse I have seen at Rock Manor and worse than half price courses. The greens were more sand than grass.
Very friendly staff
Just happened course was playing very slow. Not anyone's fault. I asked for a rain check because I had a dinner engagement. They were happy to oblige. Overall a very nice experience with the course and especially the staff.
Excellent Course
Course was in great shape a day after rain. Greens were fast, cold water and bathrooms every few holes. Golf carts had GPS so you always knew your distance.
Staff was friendly, polite and helpful.
Poor pacing management
Too many people scheduled on the course this day. Very backed up. The course is usually in great condition, though not this week. Several diseased fairways and greens. Bunker were rock hard, though there was substantial rain the day prior. The rate would be correct if the condition of course was healthy and spacing of tee times was correct. Unfortunately, neither was true this day. I will try again at a later date, but only with a special green fee rate. Rock Manor has a very nice layout.
Grass cutters ruined pace of play
Grass cutters completely oblivious to golfers waiting to hit, understand its a job that needs doing, but most courses the cutters will stop and pull off when golfers are ready to hit, not here,at least not the day we played. This caused a back up, and we had 3 "Members" behind us that seemed to think it was our fault, or the foursome in front of us were at fault, the course marshal Jon couldn't have been nicer as we explained the situation to him, but overall a great day golfing...gotta love a course that gives 100+ yds of roll on a nice low stinger shot, also the bunkers could use some attention
Rock Manor
The booking process through GolfNow was very easy. The proshop took me in and had no trouble with the rate to play. The course overall was beautiful with a few rough spots on the fairway. The course, as always is challenging. I will be back on my birthday in October.
Driving Range and Greens
The pace of play was great. The course is in good shape but the greens need TLC. Don’t waist your time or money on the driving range. You must hit off mats and they do not hold the tees. I would play there again. The greens are challenging
Nice course!
Rock Manor has the same problem most courses have (the cattle herd effect)-8 min. tee time separation. Now,not unlike most courses if they would just go to 10 min. between tee times they would most likely improve the pace of play and i would gladly give them an excellent rating. Nice course, very player friendly, lightning
fast greens.
Don't waste your money, especially if it's August.
What you pay for is not what you get. This course has a great layout, but really isn't cared for. The Greens were harder than a Rock, and multiple holes had huge burnouts. Unless they dramatically improve course conditions, don't waste your money.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Mandatory walking would cure most evils, not mandatory carts. Walkers, especially those who carry, are usually better golfers who hit and go - they don't spend endless amounts of time in their bags like riders.
