Pheasant Run Resort is one of the Chicago area's most respected resorts. It offers an 18-hole golf course that is playable for a wide range of skill levels. The course is short at just over 6,300 yards from the back tees, but it still provides a fair amount of challenges. The fairways are tight and there are water hazards that come into play on a few holes. The bunkering is minimal but strategically placed to keep you on your toes. The front of the greens are invitingly wide-open and beginners will also appreciate that they are mostly flat and easy to score on. The golf course starts out with a tricky par 5 that doglegs right past the 200-yard marker and there is a water hazard that crosses the fairway. The back nine is slightly longer and also more challenging.

Great course at an old resort
I've been playing Pheasant Run for 5 years now. It's a solid course which doesn't get the credit it deserves. Only downside is the resort itself is in serious need of an update - this includes the lounge and restaurant area. I usually enjoy winding down at the 19th, but not here. The inside smells of over-chlorination of the pool and the decor is straight out of the 70's. They have a decent practice area with driving range and large green. Unfortunately, the netting enclosing the driving range was damaged this past winter due to heavy ice and it has not yet been repaired. I almost got nailed by a stay ball from the range while on the 3rd fairway. Not only does the dangling meeting look bad, it's a safety concern and should have been fixed at the beginning of the season.
Nick
Our T time was 12:48, right before us there was another group of 4 and the slow us down like anything. There wasn’t any ranger who can tell them to speed up. We told them if we can go ahead of them and they told us what you paid we paid same amount, which we 3 guys were not expecting it. Well.. I wish they arrange ranger to speed up.
Great course the ground was so hard on the tee box you could barely get your tee in the ground. The starter was not very nice especially after the round couldn’t get my stuff off the cart fast enough for him. He complained that we were a two some playing a round also the pace of play was terrible
Great course the only problem I had was with the starter who complained about being a twosome then after the round we couldn’t get out of the cart fast enough as he was tossing all my personal belongings out of the cart no ranger to keep pace of play as the group ahead of us was playing multiple balls
Carts need to be updated.
Carts need to be updated. Seems like every time we play we get a cart that has problems running.
Never disappointed
This course for $47 for a 724am tee time is so worth the money... other courses in the area that are not as nice are charging more.. pretty easy layout some tough holes, greens are usually good course is always well manicured..
Sprinkle
The fact that almost every hole has big a** sprinkles in the middle of the fairways and you have to time out your next shot. It's not a bad place to go
Staff was very rude, there was a sprinkler system on almost every fairway right in the middle that you had to play through. Overall not a good experience.
Hard fairways and no water
The hot deal was a great find, but 75% of the water jugs on the course were empty when we got to them and you don’t get a halfway house until the 12th hole so if you don’t bring something large, you’re up a creek. The course seemed like it hadn’t been water in ages since the fairways were cracking they were so hard.
Rock hard greens!!!
I live right by Pheasant Run and the same thing happens to this course every year. At the start of the season the course is very nice everything has a softness to it, but by mid season the tee boxes get so hard you will actually have trouble getting your tee in the ground and the greens become so hard a shot from 140yds out won’t leave a divot. If you can get to this course at the beginning of the season go for it!!! But once you reach mid June the course upkeep just falls off.
Great Course.......pathetic pace!
The course is in great shape and the price is excellent, but.........the pace was pathetically slow. After 4 hours 20 minutes thru 15 holes, we skipped the last 3.
We will be staying at the resort in 2 weeks and hope the pace of play is much better then.
Weekend Blues
I've played here a number of times now, and have usually found this course to be in decent condition. Today was no exception as the greens, tees, and fairways all looked decent for the cost of the round.
My biggest complaints of the day came from the horrendously slow pace (5 hours, 5 minutes thanks to an outing and the general lack of a ranger which is needed to speed groups along) and about 3 or 4 different hole locations that were cut on the putting greens. Several of these flag locations were put on fairly severe slopes that are illegal hole locations (I know because I was formerly an assistant golf course superintendent) and were not fair locations.
Great greens
Was met by a very friendly staffer in the clubhouse.
The cost of golf and cart was $17.76.
The course is in great shape, greens are beautiful.
Pace of play was great. Half way house was just opened and he took our order on hole 13 and was ready on the way back on hole 15. It's pricey golf on a regular day but you can get good discounts if you look.
Our group enjoyed so much. Hope to come back soon. Kp the good job.
Your golf course is very good and we enjoy so much playing. We will be very soon.
Nice course, good location, fast pace
A very nice course and great value. Shot making required. Good mix of short and long holes, some very tight fairways. Greens were in excellent condition.
The course has a lot of water that challenges your shot making ability.
Tight course with holes running parallel to each other. Easy to hit into golfer playing opposite holes. Nice course to sharper your control and short game. Water comes into play on many holes. Course was in decent condition following all the recent rain.
