Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Better Than Expected.
I was able to play this course as a first look at the renovation in 2022.
It was a goat ranch and should not have been opened for play then.
I vowed never to play it again, it was so bad.
Today ? Just WOW. ! It's matured.
There is a newer routing that fits.
The grounds are mature...there aren't very many thin spots.
The rough is challenging.
The bunkers are playable. Drainage is outstanding (it had just rained) and the greens ran a little bit.
They changed management companies.
I don't know if that change had anything to do with the improvements but improvements there were.
They were going to build a new clubhouse...don't know if that is still the plan.
Go play it.
It's worth the effort and the normal rate.
Improving!
played this course most recently on 5-27-26. last time i played it was in 2024 & it felt like an entirely different course. not only because they changed the layout, but because they have made such big improvements in the conditions. walked 18 at 3:30 & i paid $32. may not be worth $75 on weekends yet, but absolutely worth a week day round
Needs work
Three years after revamping the course there are still many areas where there is no grass. Just hard baked dirt. Even some of the greens have patches of dirt. The layout and hills are awesome and fun. The greens are tough with lots of break. If there was better grass coverage this course would be tops in the area.
Getting better, but still falls short
Pace was horrible. You had twosomes going off every tee time. The starter moved up two kids in front of us and told them to catch up to the group in front of them to be a foursome. They played two the whole time. We were backed up 4 groups deep for like 4 holes. Fairways were dry and fast, greens not in bad shape. I’ll admit this little local course is trying but still some challenges.
This is not your OLD Settler’s Hill anymore
I know Settler’s brought in a new golf superintendent last year and you can see the difference he’s making with the overall conditions of the course. Let’s be real, this was more of a cow pasture than a golf course the past few years - but no longer. While it’s going to take a bit to bring this hidden gem back to glory, the stage has been set. Greens are running fast and true and are in great shape. Fairways are striped and looking better than they have in a long time. The bunkers are all maintained (except for those players that still don’t realize what the rake is for) by the grounds crew. If you swore this course off a couple years back - give it another go.
Needs work
Not maintained as well as it should be. If this course was taken care of, would get higher price for play. Seems like renovations stopped , maybe ran out of money - too bad.
new settlers hill
just played the newly designed settlers hill and thought they are doing a great job on getting it back in playing shape and liked the new hole layout .greens were very fast, even with all the rain we've been having lately which mae for some interesting putting . I think that's a good thing .
Lost
Haven’t been here in years since they closed, weird layout had to drive through the 1st hole to get to the practice green and driving range as well which didn’t look too appealing, still needs time to recover from the makeover. My golf app wasn’t showing correct yardage, after half the round I finally figured it out and wasn’t till the 13th hole or so a ranger drove by and gave us a small piece of paper that showed what holes used to be where they are now explaining the confusion in the app. Would have been nice if it was given to us by the starter don’t you think!
Not worth the money
Course is not worth $76.00
We use to get a senior discount which is not offered now on Fridays
We will not be back
My review is more to GN
They changed the layout so GN is not in line with the holes you play. 18 is now the first tee, the the 5th hole is the 12th I think now. It is completely different. FOR the players now they are making a lot of repairs right now. Normally it’s in ok shape. But they are putting in the work.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Never play here.
DO NOT, under circumstances waste your money at Settlers Hill.
At $75, this place is a joke. It should be under $50, and even then I’d think twice. The price-to-value here is embarrassingly bad.
They overbooked the course through GolfNow and still didn’t even have enough carts for paying customers. We had to stand around for 30 minutes just to get a cart and head to the range. That is bush league stuff for any course charging premium rates.
The pace of play was a disaster. Five hours and 25 minutes for a round, and the ranger was basically nonexistent until we only had four holes left. By then, who cares? If you’re going to pack the tee sheet, at least have someone out there doing their job and keeping groups moving. Total failure.
And the course conditions? Brutal. This place is a dog track. Yes, it’s early in the season, but that only excuses so much. The greens are one thing. The fairways, tee boxes, and overall turf conditions were awful. It looked neglected, beat up, and nowhere near worth what they’re charging.
Complete waste of money. Settlers Hill is overpriced, poorly managed, and in rough shape. Save your $75 and play literally anywhere else.
Good Redesign But They Need to Hire More Workers To Upkeep the Course
The redesign of Settler's Hill has made it a really interesting course. However, the conditions of the course are spotty at best. I really like the tough holes on this course after it's redesign. There are 6 or 7 holes that will really challenge you to make par. There are also a handful of holes that are easy and give you chances to get birdies. My BIG issue with this course is the vast amount of bare spots on various different parts of the course and the AWFUL tee boxes, which are littered with hundreds of divots. It's more than obvious that the owners of Settler's Hill aren't putting much money into maintaining it. This is a very solid golf course, which could be great if they tried to maintain it. I got a "hot deal" on Golf Now for $50, but I would pay $75 to play this course if they actually gave it some tender loving care.
Charged $71, not worth $17
Lived in the area for over 25 years and this was our go to course due to value, layout and conditions. Moved away about 4 years ago and heard they had put several million dollars into the course. Looked forward to seeing the improvements. Not sure how you spend millions and actually make a course worse than it was. Bring a cordless drill in your bag for the tee boxes. They were as hard as a rock. Literally took several minutes for the 4 some to find a spot soft enough to get a tee into. Fairways are supposed to have green grass on them correct? Someone needs to the course superintendent that. Greens, horrible. Do NOT waste $71 on this pasture.
