Settler's Hill Golf Course

About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Coarse review
They are all remodeling. Very good design.
But all course condition is so bad.
No maintenance. It’s much better than before design if maintenance good. This course is perfect
too slow...
waited on just about every hole...no ranger pushing slow players... close to a five hour round...course still needs time to mature from its renovation, as the grounds were pretty rough in many areas (fairways and greens)...I do like the new layout and have always enjoyed the course ...will look forward to next year...
Poor flow hole to hole
Front 9 is laid out nice, back 9 has too many 300 yard holes. Seems like they were squeezed in. This course had a complete remodel so the fairway and greens need more time to mature. Poor clubhouse amenities and the 18th hole takes you away from the club house, feels strange, part of the flow issues. Feels like there should be a clubhouse built in between the 1st and 18th greens, maybe that’s the long range plans.
Will be something
The course reopened recently, so the best will come. Course was in good shape, but will improve with time. By spring it should be where the green sleeper will be happy. Changes to clubhouse are on the horizon.
4TH Time playing here since reopen
The New layout is great. The new Tee boxes are the best, Big and Flat. The Greens on the other hand have all been resurfaced and are slow and very hard to play. Maybe next year they will be able to speed up the greens but right now, Not so good
Course needs work
Since Settler's Hill was closed for almost one and half years, I had high expectations. One of the things, I heard they were supposed to add was an irrigation system and a new clubhouse. Well, if they added a irrigation system, they are not using it. The tee boxes and fairways were like concrete. There was also many brown patches on the fairway. On a positive side, the greens were in decent shape. They also have realigned holes but haven't made changes for GPS systems such as USwing It to recognize holes, which made it challenging to get accurate distance. Finally, so far there is no new clubhouse. In fact, they haven't even broken ground yet. They had no halfway house to grab a hotdog or brat along the way. I've enjoyed playing this course in the past due to some unique holes but it may be a while before I return. The course needs improvements.
Not Ready for Prime Time
Settler's Hill is an interesting course, with a nice layout. Unfortunately, it's not well prepared or well kept. While there's been significant changes to the layout, including some holes rerouting and reshaping of the greens to remove some of the most extreme sloping, the course is still not prepped as you would expect an inland links style course would be. The rough is super short, which means any ball missing the fairways can easily run 40-50 yards (often into OB or a hazard, as happened several times to my playing partners), and combined with the many blind tee shots required, that's deadly. The new tee boxes are already chewed up very badly - we had a hard time finding a fresh spot to t-up on several holes within the 2-club box. And the greens are SLOOOWWW, which is perhaps to be expected with the changes, but still disappointing, especially at the price point charged. I like the layout, but it's a while yet to being ready for play, and certainly overpriced at this point.
Open too soon
The new course layout is really nice. But the conditions of the course are rather ragged right now. They would have been better off waiting until the spring to open. They still have a new clubhouse and driving range to complete with a new practice putting green. Once it grows in I think it will be excellent
Greens were extremely slow, that being said everything else was surprising not too bad after all other reviews stating they reopened too soon. 1st time ever playing so don't have a comparison to the old course. But did play with some regulars who said they are 50/50 on the new holes. No range yet, they are building one and a new clubhouse. Give it a year and course should be great. I will be back
Needs time to grow in.
It has opened after major renovation to the greens and a few new holes. I was hoping for better on the redesign, as they replaced one of the most unique par 3's in the area with one of the most generic. Most of the greens had gotten far to steep with few pin placements and those issues have been fixed with the new greens being more playable and allowing for more pin placements. I will be back in 2024.
Course renovation near complete
Course renovations are nearly complete. Greens and bunkers are much improved, along with the some new hole designs. Some rough patches in the fairways but generally good once these are addressed. Once the new clubhouse is built, the front 9 will now return to the new clubhouse. Junior 4 hole Course looks nice, and can't wait til they finally have a driving range. Glad to see it happening!
Need to tell people ahead if time its a soft reopening
I love the course layout, but not in the conditions. I do understand it's a soft reopening, but no where did it tell me that. Greens very slow, grass around the greens we horrible. The new par 3s green are hard, you can hit the green and the ball will roll off the back into weeds.
Look forward to 2023 opening.
This is a review for 2022. Played this many of times before and would give it a 4 star. Not for 2022.
