Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2022 #16)
Reviews
Enjoyable day
I enjoyed the course very much. The greens were soft and holding shots and very nice to putt on, balls rolled true. The putting green grass was a little long, but were fine. The fairways were in good shape, the rough was very rough. There was a recent heavy rain, over seven inches and the course was flooded in parts and is still recovering since it was cart-path only today, which made for some extra walking. This is not an easy golf course (I played from the second to back tees) and requires some accuracy on a lot of the holes because of the water and rough/trees. I'll be back again before the show flies.
Not Worth Your Time Or Money
This is not a 3 1/2 star course. The “fairways” are crabgrass and not maintained. The greens were okay. We played after it had rained and the course does not drain. There was standing water everywhere. There are no starters or rangers to keep the pace of play. The course is part of a municipal sport center that has essentially been closed and appears abandoned by the city.
Nice Course for the Money
Most times this course is kept in good shape, unfortunately, some greens were a little rough due to dead grass areas.
These is several holes with water hazards, which force you to be more accurate with your shots. Relatively flat course, no major hills. Some fairways are tighter, which I like.
There was four of us in the group and we all enjoyed the food at the club house at the end of the round.
All in all, a nice course.
A Great Layout, But ...
The layout of this course is wonderful (although 9 and 11 are a little quirky). The greens are slow but roll very true and they are receptive to a good shot. The pace of play was great. However, the fairways are horrible. Several times, I had difficulty finding my ball on the fairway. I am not from the St. Louis area and made my decision to play here based on several (I feel, inaccurate) Golfnow reviews. Except for the greens, the course conditions are fair at best. This course has the potential to be a fantastic golf course if the fairways were improved. I hate to be critical, but I want to be fair to my fellow Golfnow users.
Fairways coming out, nicely, greens in great shape!
This course has no fairways...
The course was not kept up well. There was no difference between the fairway and the rough.
Poor condition
I have played this course several times in the past and was always very impressed especially for the price. This time the course was just in poor condition, the grass was high everywhere, the greens were very bumpy and many times you couldn't tell where the Fairway was because it wasn't much different than the rough. Hopefully the conditions improve over the course of the year because it is a very nice little course, one of the best values for the dollar around when it's taken care of
Great value course
Excellent bang for your buck at the Prairies- no frills, no fuss, just solid golf course at reasonable rates. No issues with pace of play, and better carts than lots of higher priced golf courses in St. Louis area.
