Gorgeous View on the Second Tee Box Photo submitted by JBlissed on 06/25/2018
Rough conditions. Great course layout. 8 minute intervals for tee times.
I will say I really enjoyed the layout of the course and the elevated tee boxes. Staff was friendly and nice. But besides that, every fairway was not cut short enough at all whatsoever or hasn’t been cut in who knows how long so it was nearly impossible to get a good lie anywhere. The rough was rough to say the least and mostly just rock solid ground because a good amount of it was dead grass. The greens run extremely fast and there are massive divots everywhere on each green. This was my first time playing here but the holes seemed like they have been in the same location for a while because of the wear and tear on the grass around the holes and the grass around the cup itself. Tee times running every 8 minutes made pace of play slow and that could just be due to the fact that I was playing as a 2 man behind a group of 5 people that said 4 haven’t played golf before (I didn’t know they allowed groups of more than 4). And this has nothing to do with the course but after saying they’d let us play through on the next hole which was hole 2 they did not let us play through and we would get to the next tee boxes each hole afterwards and they’d still be teeing off so that was a little disappointing. (Not the courses fault but if you’re going to let people play in a group of 5/6 people please tell them that if they’re playing slow to let faster groups behind them play through). Then the final thing that also doesn’t have to do with the course itself is on my last hole, 2 kids came from 2 fairways over probably 600-700 yards to about 5 feet from my ball after I just teed off. They’re sitting there staring at me not checking the ball or anything and I just give the signal that it’s my ball. They sit there for another 10 seconds not moving but just staring at me. Then without even looking at the ball one of the kids jumps out of the cart, grabs my ball, jumps back in, and then they quickly turn around and go back 2 whole fairways over. Super disappointing round, drove 45 minutes to try it out and most likely wont be doing that again.
Love this place
Hidden gem customer service outstanding 100 years old !
Great bar lunches
Fast pace
We were only a 2some on a monday, but we finished 18 holes in about 3.5 hrs, with a 4some in front if us.
Greens are hilly and fast.
Loved the staff and the Course TeeOff was our only problem
Even with constant 25-35mph winds my son and I enjoyed our time there. The only two problems we had were with TeeOff and their arcaic website, maddening phone tree, hours of operation and nonexistent staff.
If you have a problem after 4 pm in Chicago forget human help. If it’s Friday at 4:01pm you can try the phone tree at 8:00am Monday. Good luck if your problem can’t be more complex than a word or two.
The greens were fair and difficult. The fairways were what you would expect at an upscale public golf course but those have cart paths and rangers who help with pace and civility and safety. Aldeen, The Highlands, Arrowhead, Orchard Valley etc. are upscale.
This is a nice place and the staff was great.
My son says “country course” I say not country but not upscale.
PS. If you’re reading this and you were the drunk behind us with 3 women. You need to pump the brakes on the alcohol. Dude it’s Sunday everybody’s waiting for everybody everywhere. Yelling hit the ball while we are watching the group ahead is us finish their 12th putt record their scores still sitting in their carts on the course blah blah blah. Hey it’s Sunday you’re on a golf course try to imagine you’re having fun or get another hobby.
Never again.
Three of six employees were great. There were two female employees - one bartender and another bar cart driver who were exceptionally kind. A third employee, Frank, was nice and tried to be helpful. Frank’s boss and another person (Mark?) who I dealt with on the phone were rude and callously so. I will not be going back to this place, and I’ll be sharing my terrible experience with friends who golf in the area.
Their policies listed on the app are inaccurately stated and enforced differently at the course. I took my partner and our kids out for a round to celebrate his birthday. We prepaid. My son, 7-years-old, has been golfing for two years. They would not let him on the course because he’s “under 10” - supposedly it’s posted on their website, but I could not find it - at least at the time we were told this but maybe they’ll fix it before unceremoniously kicking another family to the curb. Their socials also have nothing clearly posted. In the tee time policies on the app, it says kids under 10 are not allowed to ride on a cart - but we were only booked for 9 holes and would have been open to walking but that wasn’t allowed either. Frank tried to call and get special permission from his boss over the phone, but that was unsuccessful. He promised a refund, but it’s almost a week later. I had to call to follow up, and I just received an email notice that I’m ineligible for a refund.
I’m a reasonable enough person, but I do not like to be treated with such disrespect. As a female golfer, I encounter already too many who side eye and cast doubt upon my skills and etiquette without knowing anything about me. I must question whether Cary Country Club is run by folks who espouse such an attitude. I can only hope this review prompts them to straighten up and get their acts together for the sake of other golfers, but I won’t be among them.
Good time!
First time playing this course. Staff is very nice and helpful. Also made me feel like I wasn’t playing in IL.. nice to play a course with some hills.
Generic but Relaxing Course
There is nothing exotic about this course. Aside from a few interesting holes designs it’s straight forward and pretty easy. But it does give you a chance to go out and not over exert yourself and you can look to attack each hole due to the open fairways and, mostly, forgiving landscape.
Good Course, Nothing Special
Not much water, steep inclines on greens. No driving range but did have a putting green, easy to lose balls in the brush next to the course but that just adds to the challenge aspect. Overall good course, paid $33 per person for 18 holes. Had to wait about 10min at one par 3 over water just to tee off, but quickened immediately after that hole. Overall good experience, would recommend
