Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Decent Conditions For Early April
The greens were aerated in mid-March and were a bit bumpy. Overall the course was a great shape for early April.
Far Oaks is a good value for the money
Looks like the greens were just aerated.
Overall the course is in good shape considering it’s still winter time!
Far oaks in February
The grounds keepers have been busy this winter ….. must have cut down 100 trees which will allow much needed airflow from holes 11-15 , should help out in the fairways and greens ! The course and greens were all in very good condition for February.
Negatives which seems to be a Walters management issue at all of their courses are the sand trap conditions, most are unplayable
Last issue which seems to plague golf everywhere these days is “pace of play” why are rounds taking +4.5 hours to complete when it’s not cart path only!
Nice Course Really Overpriced
We really enjoyed the course but it was awfully expensive we thought. Yes again a nice course but this part of the country not use to paying $62.00 for 18. The Bar is also really expensive.
Thanks
Nice features
Overall love the course as one of my favorites in the area.
Ok if you get a good rate
It’s a nice layout but poorly maintained. At least half the bunkers are in total disrepair. Pace of play was mercilessly slow….5 hours for 18 holes.
Winter Golf = Hibernation
Condition is poor not just for winter. No tee box markers were out. Looks like bunkers haven’t been raked since November. I understand that in the winter you may not have the most ideal conditions and course maintenance, but please put out tee box markers and prep the course, especially when tee times are booked and it’s 65 degrees. No water on course as well. maybe they don’t hire enough staff during the winter months because it’s usually too cold. But anyone can fill a water cooler, place teebox markers.
the course has a great layout
always fun to play even during the winter 🥶 months !
a lot of maintenance going on the course likke taking trees down and trimming bushes, just wish the washed out bunkers Could be improved especially on 🕳️ #2…
Great Course
Played in November so fallen leaves were a big issue some holes couldn’t even find ball in fairway. Greens were recently aerated so don’t know the true feel of the greens. Layout is challenging but fun. Not many holes require using a driver, Lots of nice houses to gaze at while playing. Definitely will be back.
Always a great course
Overall, the course was in great shape. The only knocks were that is was cart-path only due to some drainage issues, which really slowed down play, and that the greens had recently been aerated, so putting was a challenge.
Greens Rough, Cart Path Only
The greens were very bumpy do to the aeration earlier. Also very slow paly due to Cart Path Only rules on the day of play.
Improvements Made But Overpriced For Aerated Greens & It's Almost November
I last played Far Oaks in August and I was happy to find numerous improvements have been made.
The right side of the #1 green is much improved with just high rough now. Greens 8, 11 & 17 have recovered from the summer heat and have been saved. The ditches in front of holes 6 & 14 were trimmed and looked great. Even the ditch in front of hole #12 looked better. The fairway bunker on hole #3 had the weeds removed and pace of play mproved dramatically.
However, this course still has plenty of work to do. The bunkers on hole #2 still have not been improved. Looks awful from the tee. Some of the fairways still have some bad spots. Holes 3, 4, 5 come to mind. Still no yardage marker on the par 3 #6 hole. Only slows down play. I'm not sure how they have the starter position set up is the best option. He is handing out cart keys by the clubhouse and then getting into his cart to grab people on the range or/and handling the duties on the first tee.
The biggest complaint is the course was charging $72 on a weekend morning, when the greens were just recently aerated and we are now near November. Way overpriced for dormant fairways and aerated greens. This is the main reason I cannot recommend playing Far Oaks.
