Easy walk on a fun and flat course
Was in the area, so I snuck out to play a solo round. The weather was good for early March so I called ahead to get a tee time.
I arrived early and the very nice lady that was in the clubhouse said if I was walking, I could go right out. That was big! There were two groups waiting for people to arrive, so I got out ahead of them.
The course itself is flat without a lot of elevation changes. On the front nine, there are a lot of houses being built so be ready for some noise there.
It is a fun and relatively easy course. For early March, it was in solid condition but a little windy. Greens were better than expected. Pace of play was great. Saw plenty of golfers but I didn't catch up to the twosome ahead of me until 17.
Not an upscale course at all but a good, solid one. Would like to play it again in the summertime when the course greens up even more.
Great Course... and Conditions To Match
If you live in the St. Louis area and are looking to play a course where the greens run fast and true, check out Tamarack in Shiloh, IL. It is worth the drive from the city to play this course. The course is in amazing shape and there are many courses that charge way way more and are in less better shape in the local area.
They have a great putting green for warming up and the best part is that they roll as true and fast as the actual greens you will be playing. They have a nice driving range.
The burgers and fries are awesome too! When playing holes 9, 10, and 11 - if you have a colored ball - change to it, because you will be playing next to the driving range and white balls will be a challenge to find if you happen to go left or right of the fairway, just something to consider.
When we played the other day, the pins were in some pretty heinous positions; which required some great approach shots, but the other thing it did was truly provide a challenge. Even though the greens have some serious character it is not to the point where they are unplayable or cause too much of a challenge to make the course no fun to play.
If you haven't played Tamarack lately... come and check it out, you will not be sorry.
Great Local Course
Staff always extremely friendly, great walking course - mostly flat. Greens in great shape, course is nice for a winter walk. I'd play there again and often.
The course is not bad
Overall the course is not bad. It is a little out dated cause they do not use a computer for tee sheets so they lose a lot of online options. The staff is very friendly and that was a huge plus. The layout of the course is extremely basic and very easy to play. To be honest not much to look at. But their prices are very competitive and it is a good value. If you are a beginner golfer this is a good course for you. If you are a more experienced golfer then you might be a little bored with the course. Now as far as the course conditions go it is not in bad shape for being a lower end golf course. The greens are healthy which was very nice. They have good prices for the driving range but the range top was not in great condition. Overall my experience was not bad.
Good Course, Friendly Staff
I played on a blazing hot Sunday afternoon (100*+ with the heat index), so I was one of only a few who braved the heat. As such, the pace of play was outstanding. The other times I have played here the pace has been good too as there is always a marshall, starter or both making sure the pace is correct. Despite the high heat that has been beating down the past several weeks, the course is in great condition tee to green...again, each time I've played it has been...though this time there were a few more ball marks in the greens from lazy hackers not fixing their marks. The staff is a bunch of friendly old guys who love the game and let it show in the upkeep of this great little course. Definitely recommend a round here.
