Its sad.....
Son and I decided to try something new, and were sadly disappointed. The entire facility is in a state of disrepair. This could again be a nice course, but would take a great deal of time, money and maintenance. Its located in the middle of a state park which is on the edge of a pretty dicey area. I've seen it listed since for $10 including cart, and its still not enough to make me return.
First Time Love It
This course has a lot of history with it. 1938 built, 1 if 8 black owned golf courses in the USA.
Once you warm up to the staff, they warm up to you.
Plenty of helpful golf advice and lots of Golf stories too.
I enjoy this course a lot, not the best condition, but good for Middle to High Handicappers. So unless you need a super tough course, this one will challenge you.
$$$
My children, friends and I play here a few times a month and Mr. Doug has been one of the nicest men I could meet. Great value and great hotdogs at the turn. The carts could use a little work.
Worth the hot deal.
Course not in the most desirable location. Staff had no idea we booked through golf now and didn't seem to care. Just told us to get a couple carts and go golf. Nice course and definitely worth the cost of the hot deal. Will be going back.
Last minute golf
First and foremost I had a fantastic round both physically and mentally! It was an absolutely beautiful day! I finished working earlier than I expected. I checked to see if I could find a last minute not deal on a Sunday! I was elated to find one at a course I had not played in over 30 years so it was a "new" first time for me. Arriving at the course, they had no clue I was coming thus they had no cart for me. They were very nice and assured me a cart would be coming in any minute. 45 of those assurances past. I am not upset just stating my experience. I shot my best round in 30 years almost having a hole in one which would be a first. You asked, I replied. Everything happens for a reason. I love your VIP membership.
LG2GVISTA CELL PHONE
I enjoyed the course. It was very challenging and a beautiful surrounding. I found it very difficult due to the 15-30 mph wind conditions.
Rough Grass and Rude Staff
We were playing in a foursome. The foursome behind us started rushing us and hitting right up to where we were. Very rude. And then sped over to our tee box after our drives strongly suggesting we let them play through. At that moment I realized at least one of their 4 players was staff. We let them play through and suddenly their golf game got real slow. That caused a group behind us to get backed up behind us. That group started yelling at us to let them play through when we were already halfway down the 8th hole!!! We were happy to let them play through at the turn.
The course itself was either super dry or muddy in various places. They have a major mole problem all over the place. There is are no visible fairways. One of the greens was ripped apart with big lines ripped out of it. Most of the tee boxes were very rough.
The set up of the course is fine and there is beautiful water around it. A new manager could make this place nice. But for now, I wouldn't play on it. I'll never go back.
9 holes of grazing land for lease...
Front 9 is truly a cow pasture..fairways are l-o-s-t...close the front 9, dig 'em up, replant grass...see you in the spring! Bunkers were last maintained in the '80's...back 9 worth the $10 charge...hire a grounds crew!
Not too bad a course
This is an older course with aging amenities in situated in a State Park in a very marginal neighborhood. That being said, the course was in pretty good shape except for the sand(dirt) traps. Also, the cart we started with had to be swapped @ 9 holes as it was barely running. The next cart was like a jackrabbit but it had nearly NO BRAKES and the parking brake didn't function. Fortunately, the course is flat as a board.
Great Scenery, OK conditions
The course layout is pretty good and the scenery in the state park is nice. The course conditions are not great, but for the price you pay it's fine. Fun course if you just want to go out and play a quick round.
Clean up the course
Fallen trees on course, been there for a while. Remove them. Trim around trees and bushes and cut the rough. Dead grass everywhere.
Enjoyed perfect b-dAy
Planning to golf again soon
Glad I only paid $10
If you are a beginner golfer then this would be an ok practice course. If you are an avid golfer and enjoy a decent course, avoid this place. Crabgrass and clover for fairways. Might as well golf on a goat ranch.
Grand Marais Doesn't Deserve the Poor Ratings It Has
Course was excellent for the money. Booked a tee time for my dad and I to play 18 for only $10. Greens were in excellent shape. Very consistent as far as speed goes. About 95% of fairways had nice grass to play off of. The other 5% were dry spots. (To be expected from a Missouri summer). Rough was also well maintained. A few teeboxes could have used a bit more grass, but all of them were definitely playable. Great golf experience for $10.
ok course
Greens ok rough was good fairway more like pasture but overall worth the money
Course Lay-Out
This was One Of Sam Sneads Favorite Golf Courses
The Lay out of The Coursecis Fantastic . As Good or better than any coursecI've ever played . The Holes are Fun and the Back to Back Par Fives allows you to to Score. UNFORTUNATELY THE COYRSE CONDITIONS , Where Equally Bad! But the Green Fees were on Par with The Conditios $18 on the Weekend So You Really can't Complain. It's worth Playing for the Layout Alone. IF THEY COULD POUR A COUPLE OF MILLION DOLLARS TOO UPGRADE THE CONDITONS. This would Be One The Best Courses In The COUNTRY !
