Far Oaks Golf Club

About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Course Letdown
Course has gone down including fairways and greens. Really disappointing as to what happened (fungus on green?). Hopefully they work on it soon to what it used to be.
Not up to par!
One of my favorites but not in good shape yesterday. Greens need work. Tee boxes dried out. Rough is messed up.
Great
Greens had just been aerated and replanted so not in great condition. Very hot summer so I can understand the problem. Pace of play was slower than normal slow foursome ahead of me. People need to be ready to play when it is their turn!
Decent Round
Greens weren’t up to par and pace of play..HORRENDOUS!
Sad
This course used to be the hidden gem of the STL metro area. It has drastically gone downhill unfortunately. Pace of play midweek was AWFUL. Water jugs were empty all round which is unacceptable in 95 degree STL summer. Greens are infested with fungus as well
Tee time canceled
Even if you book a tee time and pay ahead of time don't expect to play. Pro Shop did not make a phone call or attempt to notify in any way. Just waited for our group to show to tell us our tee time was cancelled because they were letting a scramble play. Booked on GolfNow and had to go through that process to get our money back.
Fairway Drainage Issues, Greens Starting To Stress
Far Oaks is still worth playing even though it has some issues. Great design and an enjoyable place to play. The senior weekday rate of $45 is excellent.
The greens are in good condition but several greens are showing some stress (11, 12, 13 & 14). To my surprise no fans turned on.
They have always had a fairway drainage issue, mostly on holes 3, 4, 5 & 16. Only one tee box was in rough shape (11). Some of the fairways have rough patches and unsightly weeds.
Some of the foliage needs to be trimmed soon, to maintain the beauty of the golf course. Holes 6, 7 & 11 off the tee.
I've mentioned this numerous times, the tee markers need to be changed. They all look white (except for a thin line of color on the edges). If you love the tee markers that much, at least get the appropriate colored broken tee receptacles at each tee.
Fun and challenging
The course is extremely fun to play and very challenging.
Conditions Are Not Up To The Standards Of Far Oaks
Far Oaks is one of my favorite courses in the St. Louis metro area. However, I was disappointed in the conditioning of the course.
The fairways & tees need help. Let's start with the fairways - the front nine the worse. Hole 1 fairway is full of clover. These fairways had so many bad areas: 1, 3, 5, 7, 15. Many of the tees had little grass and were so hard you could not get a tee in the ground. The worst tees were: 6, 8 & 16.
The tee markers need to be changed. They all look white and this slows down play. Every tee we have to search for the correct tee. Each tee is white with only the color of the tee in a small thin line inside the all white tee. This is a real problem and the course refuses to address this issue.
The greens had no bad areas. They had small aeration holes and were of medium speed.
I think this course does not have their priorities set correctly. They have spent their money on a gravel walking pathways near the greens on 6 & 14. Looks like they they built a new walking bridge on hole 6 too. This means nothing to the golfer who plays your course. Spend your money on the fairways/tees and coming up with sensible tee markers.
Do not play Far Oaks until they start working on the important areas of the golf course.
Slow and expensive with terrible tee boxes and greens
Paid $101 (this is the absolute highest end for golf courses in the St Louis area) for a 5 hours and 20 minute round. Tee boxes were very uneven and had divots everywhere. Greens had ball marks EVERYWHERE. I wouldn’t pay more than $45 to play here again.
Awesome course
The fairways are coming in nicely. Greens are rolling well!
Far Oaks
Beautiful course. Great shape for this time of year. Fun and challenging!
