Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Nice Course But Many Greens Beat Up & Poor Tee Markers
Far Oaks one of my favorites in the St. Louis metro. Weekday senior rate of $42 is wonderful for this course. They have cut down some large trees to the left of the 12 green, I would assume for better air flow.
I don't like to be too critical this early in the season, but numerous greens have some rough patches. Most of the greens are filled with ball mark damage. The front of the 7th green has some major issues. The 11th green has issues all over the green. I had to move my ball to putt around the damage. I think a few other greens have some issues too but I don't recall which holes but these 2 stood out as the worse.
The yellow tees on hole 12, didn't have much grass.
Finally, I have mentioned this numerous times. They need to change their tee markers. They all look white except for a thin colored line on the border. We spend the entire round trying to figure out where our tees are.
Excellent and challenging course
The greens are fast and true. Lots of hazards. Fair but challenging. Bring your A game
One year to the next
Nice coarse and great layout. On one to tell you how the cart gps system works or nothing on the cart to tell you.
Course Letdown
Course has gone down including fairways and greens. Really disappointing as to what happened (fungus on green?). Hopefully they work on it soon to what it used to be.
Not up to par!
One of my favorites but not in good shape yesterday. Greens need work. Tee boxes dried out. Rough is messed up.
Great
Greens had just been aerated and replanted so not in great condition. Very hot summer so I can understand the problem. Pace of play was slower than normal slow foursome ahead of me. People need to be ready to play when it is their turn!
Decent Round
Greens weren’t up to par and pace of play..HORRENDOUS!
Sad
This course used to be the hidden gem of the STL metro area. It has drastically gone downhill unfortunately. Pace of play midweek was AWFUL. Water jugs were empty all round which is unacceptable in 95 degree STL summer. Greens are infested with fungus as well
Tee time canceled
Even if you book a tee time and pay ahead of time don't expect to play. Pro Shop did not make a phone call or attempt to notify in any way. Just waited for our group to show to tell us our tee time was cancelled because they were letting a scramble play. Booked on GolfNow and had to go through that process to get our money back.
Fairway Drainage Issues, Greens Starting To Stress
Far Oaks is still worth playing even though it has some issues. Great design and an enjoyable place to play. The senior weekday rate of $45 is excellent.
The greens are in good condition but several greens are showing some stress (11, 12, 13 & 14). To my surprise no fans turned on.
They have always had a fairway drainage issue, mostly on holes 3, 4, 5 & 16. Only one tee box was in rough shape (11). Some of the fairways have rough patches and unsightly weeds.
Some of the foliage needs to be trimmed soon, to maintain the beauty of the golf course. Holes 6, 7 & 11 off the tee.
I've mentioned this numerous times, the tee markers need to be changed. They all look white (except for a thin line of color on the edges). If you love the tee markers that much, at least get the appropriate colored broken tee receptacles at each tee.
