Great layout being restored to it’s original beauty
First time I played Eagle Pointe on the southern edge of Bloomington, Indiana. Course has a tremendous layout with well placed bunkers. Fairways and greens were in great shape. It’s amazing how far they have brought the golf course and facility back to life with more improvements to come. The new group running the course know what they are doing. Beautiful swimming pool and pavilion attached to the clubhouse. Friendly staff also. It was a steal to play and ride 18 holes for just $31. It will be fun watching the continued improvements. Very good golf course in beautiful southern Indiana.
A Work In Progress
Been watching them try and get this course back in shape since previous owner let it go. I play it once or twice a year just to see how it's coming along. Leave disappointed every time. Rough is too thick so that slows play even more with people looking for their ball. Bunkers are still unplayable with rough hard sand (if any) that is not maintained. Plenty of new players and hackers now since the super membership 3-year deal so slower play and they will not take care of the course. Going to be a long haul if the don't hire some help to keep it up. Used to be a premier course, hopeful they can bring it back close to that level.
Much better than 5 years ago
Eagle Point has had quite the tumultuous past over the 10 years my parents have lived near the golf course. This has been one of the better times we have played, especially given the covid 19 situation. Eagle point offers quite the challenge especially on the par 5's. We played the front 9 and had a great time, fairways were great, the rough was rough as it should be, the water hazards are not forgiving if you have a slice. It's definitely a course worth giving it a second chance if you haven't in a long time. Only negative I have to say is that we have felt rushed by groups behind us, whether that's from us playing the game it's meant to be played or others groups playing best ball, Not a fault of the course or management.
Great layout...what a shame
I/we say “what a shame” as were excited to play this course for the first time. The staff was very nice and layout was fun. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The condition of the majority of the course was very poor. Most of the traps were unplayable (see pictures) and tee boxes were in awful condition. I/we hope they put some TLC and money into this facility but we will not be back until this happens.
Touring Indiana
Wow! This course has a fantastic layout and was undoubtedly great in the past. However, with the recent drought the conditions have become extremely unfavorable to say the least. It was so easy to lose a ball in what was supposed to be the fairway but has becomes overgrown native grasses/weeds. The greens were in decent shape making them, the staff and the facilities the highlights. At this time, we cannot recommend the course.
Very unfortunate state of disrepair
20 years ago I played this course for the first time. Back then it was a very good course. The layout is fair to good. That hasn't changed. Unfortunately every thing else has. The fairways are mowed, but seem like plain yard-grass, with some being crabgrass and clover filled. The bunkers have no sand, they're just dry dirt and weeds. There is no real first cut of rough. The rough is unkempt and, in some places, 3-4 inches high just feet off of the fairway. The greens are so slow that they're almost unplayable. Some of the holes have grass growing over the cup (looks like the haven't been moved in a month).
I was hopeful the new ownership would get things in order. That's not happening. Avoid this course unless you get a deal for less than $15.
The only positive is that the pro-shop staff is very friendly.
My guess is that the couse will close and the land developed for residential construction.
Great Value
The entire Eagle Pointe resort, including the golf course, has taken a hit due to recent tax issues. That being said, what remains is fun but challenging layout with well-kept, fast-running greens. The bunkers are in disrepair and the fairways may need a little mowing, but you'll get a very solid round of golf for $30. Would definitely do it again. Also, I for one want to see this course survive and return to its old self.
Playin' the Pointe
Friendly staff in the pro shop and halfway house. Some patchy spots in the fairways but overall the course was in good shape. The greens seemed a little slow but the humidity was high. I was Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde on the course with 2 triples and 3 birdies.
Challenging course
Alot of potential for this course. New owner is fixing bunkers and waterfalls. Once complete will be a beautiful course. Very challenging, plenty of bunkers, water, long holes and dawg legs. Little bit of everything. Greens were very fast but great shape.
Pretty Good Course in Bloomington Area
Starting with the Pro's, course has some pretty long par 5's which I like, they just got brand new Carts this year (2017), and with the golf now app price being $12 it is hard to beat. (Compared to all courses around the Bloomington area)
Cons are that the sand traps were not sand at all and probably have not been worked on since last year, if you do not use golf now the rates are around $36 during the week, Also when we teed off, the 1st tee was stacked with groups of 4. Later that day we were told that it was because the golf now app put 4 groups between a 10 min time frame. I guess that's just what you have to deal with if you want to play half price. No worries though because my Dad and I just started on the back 9 instead. It was a great round of golf.
WIP
I booked a Tee time for 9:48 Sunday morning. I paid just under $50 for the two of us on a hot deal on my golf now app. I must say if I had paid regular price I would have been mad. There were no warning signs to let players know that the course was under construction. I mean there wasn't even any sand in the bunkers. I actually tried to call the course the day before and all morning before the tee time to check on the course condition but nobody answers the phone around that place. Kind of a let down for an hour drive but at least the bartender was hot. :)
Eagle Pointe is worth the time
Eagle Pointe has some great greens - they were fast and well-maintained. A lot of crabgrass in the rough and the fairways, but still an enjoyable loop. And their carts are excellent!
I'll go back there again, especially when I find hot deals with GolfNow. Played 18 for $14 per player!
Wish it was closer to Louisville
Got there early, no wait for the first tee, got out early...
It was hot
The course was dry typical for this time of year. It was challenging but fair , bunkers didn't have much sand in them . Would go back and play.
