The Hoosier state isn't just all basketball. Golf comes alive spring through fall with its fine collection of public golf courses.

Maybe it's time to proclaim Indiana a golf state, not a basketball state. The Hoosier state is home to some wonderful public golf courses.

GolfPass releases a Top 25 Public Golf Courses in Indiana every year thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.

Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. Indianapolis is a wonderful city surrounded by top public golf courses like Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Prairie View in Carmel and The Fort Golf Resort. The famous French Lick Resort glides up and down the rolling hills of southern Indiana, although none of its three top resort courses - the Valley Links, the Donald Ross Course or the Pete Dye Course - received enough reviews to be eligible for our list. If you believe they should be ranked in our top 25, be sure to review them next time you tee it up at French Lick. Indiana is also home to a handful of top university courses - the Warren Course at Notre Dame, the Birck Boilermaker courses at Purdue University and the Pfau Course at Indiana University.

We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

The cottages were immaculate service was tremendous Trisha and Lauren took care of us. Trisha took care of all the little things that we needed. The staff was wonderful. The course was in great shape. We had a great time. Will be back again for sure. We recommend this accommodation as a stay and play for any Kind of get together. What they're saying: "Beautiful Resort just North of Plymouth, IN. As you drive up, you see a large clubhouse and a large practice facility across the street. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Black Course was in very good shape for Mid-October. The greens had been aerated and top dressed, but were still very puttable and consistent. We had a beautiful sunny day with a light wind. I will be back to play the Silver Course." - dinman24

  5. Chariot Run Golf Club

    Laconia, Indiana
    Public/Resort
    4.5797619048
    502

    Green fee: $49-$69
What they're saying: "I played with a couple of friends. All of us really enjoyed playing. It was not crowded so we could play our pace (3 hours 50 minutes for 18 hole). All staff members were so friendly and I loved the layout of the course. The unlimited driving range was so helpful. Chipping green and putting green were well maintained. It was recently aerated and that's only reason I didn't give 5 star for the course condition. A cooler with bottled water and a few tees come with a cart. The ice machine and water stations were definitely hit. Even though we had to drive over an hour, we really enjoyed the course and all of us agreed that it is the best course near Louisville." - statsteam

    Green fee: $69-$84+
What they're saying: "Greens in good shape with a few edge bad spots. Tees and fairways excellent. Some bunkers were in only fair condition. Course was backed up with a bit of slow play. 5 hour round. Love the course. The staff was outstanding from the pro shop (to the) starter and cart lady. I will try to make it back!" - jmeador21

  10. Prairie View Golf Club

    Carmel, Indiana
    Public
    4.2098723804
    236

    Green fee: $100-$125+
What they're saying: "This course is in great shape. The fairways and soft and the grass is uniform. The greens are true. I found the greens to be pretty level without many putts that moved. The biggest challenge is the sand traps. They are everywhere and strategically placed to be very challenging. My only criticism is that the traps were pretty wet, with some of them even having water in them. The sand is hard packed and not at all fluffy. The grass in the rough is pretty thick in places so it's easy to lose a ball in it if you miss the fairway." - Doug7538592

  14. Belterra Golf Club

    Florence, Indiana
    Resort
    4.551356524
    567

    Green fee: $60-$125
What they're saying: "I play golf as often as possible, this course is amazing, conditions were perfect from every tee box to every green. Some courses struggle in summer to maintain everything. Our applause goes to the Staff and grounds crew. The only issue with this course is the price. Golf is an expensive hobby and for most just being able to go can be rare, but having a chance at this course for an affordable rate would make returns more frequent and not just once a year." - GolfPass Reviewer
