Very nice course.

This course is a little out of the way, but we found it worth the drive. We caught it on a weekend with perfect weather. The pace of play was a slow, but acceptable. The course was in decent shape, and the staff were nice and helpful. The other folks golfing were equally pleasant. The layout is interesting, with a few tighter tee shots on the back nine. It plays through mature trees that can become interesting if you stray off the fairway. Some hills and longer par 3 holes present a challenge for the average golfer. We would like to play here again and would recommend this course.

Interesting play but not a 4 star - 3.75 stars

Enjoyed my day at Lost Nation. Some nice hills and dales and it's quite a pretty place with fall foilage. Greens were in very good shape and pretty fast. The very few sand traps weren't in good shape. Ball was sitting up on the fairways well and the rough wasn't too long. Tee boxes were very shaggy and in poor condition.
The course itself isn't too taxing (6200 yds) and kept my interest (especially the back nine). A couple of very "contrived" holes from the aspect of tree blockage -
The par 4 sixth which has a couple of large trees right in the middle of the fairway with little fairway on each side to have an unaltered approach shot to the green with a trap fronting the green.
The par 4 15th (#2 hdcp, 399 yards) plays long with a slightly uphill tee shot and then features a 35 yard "chute" for your approach shot around a huge tree with a green perched up on a hillside which features significant undulations....almost impossible to hit a tee shot without an extremely shaped 2nd shot to the dance floor....and that's from the middle of the fairway.
4 out of the 5 par 3's suffer because there's no distance variety 188/220/190/190 - they are all "different" but you are likely pulling out the same club on each of them.....
The course finishes with two very short severe dog leg rights so you play target tee shots to try to stay out the trees.

It's worth a play as it's definitely decently maintained with very nice welcoming folks....a course I would not hesitate to play again but not to take a special road trip to from Chicago.

Hidden Gem

One if my favorites!
Twice a year I drive 90 minutes from Hoffman Estates for a "golf day." 36 holes. I will play Silver Ridge or Timber Creek in the morning. But I ALWAYS play Lost Nation as my afternoon round.

Not particularly long or difficult, it's a fun track. Pace of play is quick. Course always in good shape. Lots of change of elevation. Inexpensive as well. And, good restaurant on first tee.

Have a look see!

Fun Course And No Crowds

I played this on a Hot Deal price during the week. While there were other golfers out, the layout provides plenty of space between holes and you rarely feel like groups are on top of one another. Great elevation changes for IL and a well maintained course. The greens were dry and played real fast but I still able to keep the ball on the green on approach shots. The fairways were kept neat and the rough easily playable. There are 4 sets of tees and open fairways without too many OBs making it a great course for beginners too.

Scenic and secluded

Played May 28, 2014.

The greens were firm and moderately fast. A high approach shot will hold well. The course blends well with the natural surroundings. This course will not punish a mid to high handicapper because it isn't long and fairways are pretty generous. Distances to bends on 90 degree doglegs on 17 and 18 are not obvious making it easy to run through the fairway and into the trees. Overall great course for the money. Good sandwiches in the clubhouse...I recommend the turkey club wrap or the bacon cheeseburger.
