This Course Doesn't Know What it Wants to be
The course has a couple of interesting holes quite a few gimmicky holes. It has a short layout and it's billed as the everyman's course. However, the fairways are super tight and have terrible lays more often than not. It has too many penalty area's and too narrow fairways to be a high handicapper friendly course. Its slow green speeds and poor general conditions make it not all that fun for low handicappers. I would not pay above $35 to play here at any time. Also had an issue of them not honoring my tee time as the started just decided to go first come first serve.
The layout of this course is great. Tee boxes and fairways need some work, but the greens and traps are in good shape.
A Good Value
Like the course and layout. Well balanced. Has a few long 4’s of +420 yards. But also several in the 350 to 370 yard range. One 200 yard par 3 with two in mid range of 165-175 yards and one at 130 yards. Has some tight landing areas off tee and others more liberal. Some water comes into play and bunkers on most holes. They also do a good job with pin placements. Some tough and some straight forward . Greens also offer some putts with significant break and others pretty straight. Speeds on greens are average- not overly fast but not slow.
Great course
I've been playing Hughes for years and enjoy the course very much.
Course was in great shape and greens were excellent. Staff was outstanding!
Country feel!
1st time playing here, very enjoyable. Awesome 1st hole, hitting downhill into green. Not a lot of water to contend with, just enough sand, Very scenic, just past suburbs of Chicago in farm country.Great pace of play for a Saturday, about 4 hours. Somewhat hilly. Will definitely add to our list for weekend play!
Nice staff, Sam is a great pro.
Always like playing here and I play this course twice a week. Great value and great staff. The only issue is the lack of rain which makes the course very dry with a lot of shots with very little grass under the ball..
Great Customer Service
We had a very slow foursome in front of us so after 5 holes, there was a two hole gap in front of them. We called the Pro Shop and they immediately sent someone to ask them to play faster. It was much quicker the rest of the way and we finished in four hours rather than 5.
Course has a very nice bar with great service as well.
